You can also combine multiple stages of a filter with different Qs. E.g., a low-pass filter with a low Q in series with another low-pass filter with a high Q. In this way the pass band area of the filter will have a sharper roll off right at the cut-off frequency. This without affecting the poles that determine the roll-off per decade.
