Great video! I am glad you finally were able to get your bunnies vaccinated. Also I love your hair! I live in Sweden so we are used to having to vaccinate our rabbits every year. We have another one (a triple vaccine) so we only give one shot every year. Ofc I am sorry to hear you have outbreaks in the US as well, but glad to hear you can now vaccinate :)

Thank you for sharing! My bonded rescue buns got vaccinated a year ago (we live in a high risk area of Oregon), so they will need their annual checkup and second vaccination next month in March. Thank you for talking about this. And please do share about your anxiety. So many of us can relate. Thank you for all that you do. Also…your hair looks super cute! And…question, please… how long were your rabbits mad about going to the vet? I’m dreading it…taking them anywhere in carriers makes me SUPER stressed. They hate it! But it has to get done…

It doesn't matter how much does it costs. All that matters to us is that are the bunnies healthy and happy or not because I don't know about others but for me all the bunnies living in this entire world are "PRICELESS", yes you heard it right, "EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM" which includes the domesticated ones and the wild ones as well.

I only found 1 veterinarian in my area that currently have the vaccine. I have been trying for months now to get the vaccine. They are going to make me come 3 times because they want the wellness checkup to be on a different appointment. I had an appointment for a check up a few weeks ago but I had to cancel because we had a bad snow storm here and my county went red. That vet doesn't book appointment more than a month in advance so I basically have been contacting them every month to try to get an appointment. I had found a rabbit shelter that had a vet that could vaccinate my rabbits a few months back. But the vet had to cancel because her daughter cought covid. Never heard back from the shelter after that. Besides the commute would be over 3 hours total. So right now I'm just waiting until new month start so I can schedule.

I'm from Canada, I got my rabbits booked for the vaccine (they're getting theirs' tomorrow). When I first found out about the virus, I brought it to my younger sister's attention (she's a vet tech), so she did some research about it and found out where we live, there's one place that does it since they had the license to do so (checked the reviews for that place as well and it's a 4.8 out of 5 stars, so that's promising) but we had to be put onto the waiting list until we had confirmation that there was vaccines for my rabbits. And it's not cheap either. I paid over $400 for my two rabbits. The vaccine is called FILAVAC VHD K C + V (believe that's one of the recommended vaccines out there for rabbits). So hopefully both of my rabbits are all right after this vaccine. UPDATE: Since the comment was orginally posted, my rabbits are now vaccinated and they're doing great. No reactions to the vaccine. Did ask a couple of questions to the vet who vaccinated both my rabbits. In Canada, the vaccine is imported from France and there's a lot of paperwork involved since the vaccine is not licensed in Canada which is why it's really expensive (they're hoping next year it'll be easier to get access to the vaccine). They contact all vet clinics that are registered to give the vaccine if there was any issues, reactions don't often happened, the vet themselves had at least one case out of the many that they've done were the rabbit had a side affect from the vaccine but it also had a underline health condition caused by another illness. Rabbit recovered within a couple of hours. If you want to get the vaccine, talk to your vet and I'm sure they'll look into it for you. Really depends on your location. Be aware that you could be on the waiting list for a while so the sooner you get on there, the better. The vet I've went to also checked over my rabbits to make sure they're all right before they've gotten the vaccine.

How long was this vaccine tested for that it was determined that receiving it yearly was the absolute recommendation? Our other pets are over-vaccinated. When my dog’s rabies shot was due, I requested a titer test instead. His blood work showed that he still had antibodies for rabies 3 years later. Also, what are the long term side effects? Especially, If they get it year after year. What kinds of reactions can they get a few years down the line?

Yay! Short hair twins! In terms of the anxiety over this, I too was having the same fear. I've even made a VERY strict protocol for coming into my house from outdoors because I was terrified to bring the virus in by accident by just walking around. My boy is now fully vaccinated and I too took a sigh of relief. In terms of how LITTLE of side affects there are, my boy got his first dose the same day he got neutered.... So hopefully that puts it into perspective. It is extremely unlikely that they'll even get those few minor side affects. Also, COST... if a vet is charging more than 50$ per shot, I feel they are totally hustling you. The actual cost of the vaccine is NOT that much for vets to acquire (once it is approved by your state veterinarian) so if they are charging way more than 50$ per shot, I'd say look for another vet just for the shot... I spent 42$ in total for BOTH shots. He had his physical exam and everything, too, but for the shots alone, it was 21$ each dose. There was an "exotic vet" hospital in Ohio that was charging $150 for these shots.... and I'm sorry... that is ludicrous. One extra thing to note about this virus, as it is not yet COMPLETELY understood how transmissible it is, they DO know that this virus is VERY resistant and can survive under extreme environments and timeframes. They know that it usually is a 3 month+ wait for it to die naturally. It's honestly been so terrifying to know about these things and nothing was being done about it till more recently... Thank you Medgene Labs!! You rock!!

I am living in Europe Germany and the first vaccine of RHDV2 was after it was discovered to be mutated from the original RHD, I luckly had good connections and was able to get a doctor that had the best working vaccine on the market, after that my usual vet gave them the booster vaccine. I think a year after, there is already a max booster for a whole year, so it reduces the stress for my rabbits to hop to the vet. I still meet rabbit owners who think a vaccine isn't nessecary because "they never got it", I immideantly let them know to think about it again, being safe than sorry, RHD and Myxomatose are dangerous, even for wild rabbits and the chance that a rabbit survives RHD is VERY low.
