My program is 24 months and a failing grade for us is 78 and under. But I just had my last day of my first quarter! I definitely psyched myself out thinking it would be extremely hard, but I managed to pass with A's! To anyone reading this it really is not difficult if you just study!
As a Radiologic Technologist since 2007 to all of you aspiring Technologist Do it! There is a huge demand for us! And its not getting any better. Also If you are having trouble getting a job after getting your ARRT , consider moving . Today I travel twice a week to different states to educate and train Technologist and I can tell you from personal experience after visiting hospital after hospital There is so much demand Good Luck future Technologists!
Really do appreciate it, haven't decided on this from dropping my computer science degree, but it's good to hear that there's possible jobs in this after other people on reddit said the opposite.
I love your videos! I’m currently a second year student. I find that there’s not many videos on RU-vid about x-ray..there’s a ton of nursing ones it’s about time someone makes some about x-ray! 😊
You will likely need to have an ACT score and high school diploma to apply to most colleges, but you will have to research that for your specific school. There are radiologic technology programs offered at four-year universities for a bachelor's degree, or a two-year degree at community college's (which is what I am pursuing) for an associates in applied science degree.
My program earned me a bachelors degree! I went through 1 year of prerequisites and 3 years in the program. It was 2 years focused on X-ray, and then the last year was a modality (mine was MRI). I stayed in X-ray clinic once a week, and the rest of the week we had MRI clinic. The University of Iowa offers an online AS to BS degree if you were interested in furthering your degree in MR, CT or CVI! Otherwise there are always jobs out there that offer cross training!
My prerequisites were Anatomy and physiology + lab, chemistry + lab, physics + lab, algebra, English 101, medical terminology, communications and 100 hours of shadowing a radiologist technologist
Robertson Thirdly i really wanna do rad but my parens are against it :( so idk what i wanna be they assume the raditation will hit me back isnt that crazy? Or maybe over protective?
Your videos have saved this girls life! I am a first gen college student who hasn't had anyone to turn to. I truly went in to my college experience blind and have had to adapt & learn as I go. These videos have helped me navigate this process. I am proud to say that I just got my official acceptance into my program a week ago. With my excitement also comes nervousness, but thankfully I can watch your videos to know what to expect moving forward. Thanks for putting in the time & effort to help people like me!
Yay! You're right, there aren't many videos about becoming a rad tech. I'm finishing my pre-reqs and just got admitted into the program for the summer start. So excited!
The reason I found your channel was because I looked up day in a life of a x-ray tech since I am going into that field. I fell in love with your channel and your personality after watching your college day in my life videos. ❤️❤️❤️
I went through the Army for my training. It was nothing like a 2 year tech program, and literally only lasted me a year. The stuff these students go through now, I don’t envy one bit! 👍😎
Im stuck in between going to the army like you did or just do community college to become x ray tech. Was it more difficult since they’re cramming in more material in a shorter period of time? Did you have to do the same pre requisites?
@@Soychica13 this is late and a little different than your question. I was in the air force and became an ultrasound technician rather than mri/xray I would definitely have chosen radiology in the air force if I could go back though haha But I liked having the hands on experience the job gives through the military. Tech school was definitely tough because we had to learn so much so fast, but I definitely found it to be worth it. I like having the military experience background and I was able to immediately get a job working for the VA even before getting registered, since they knew me and knew that I could do the job already. Really depends on what path you want to take though. Army is probably a good bit different than air force and physically also, you definitely have to be even more fit. (If thats a concern for you)
@@bethanyrose9026 Hey Bethany, I have a quick question for you if you could answer for me. When you were signing up for the Air Force did you tell the recruiter the specific MOS you wanted, or did you get diagnostic imaging through an open contract?
I really appreciated this video. I was most recently the past 3 years in hospitality as a flight attendant and loved it, but after my grams died my life changed and now I am looking into the medical field. Even at my age you can still change your life, thanks for the inspiration girl and all the tips. You have a new subbie! Much success and luck to you!! XX
it’s cool to hear other people talk about their programs and how they’re so different!! in my program there was a interview process. and we don’t have pm or weekend rotations.
It's really cool following in their footsteps because all of my instructors, one of the radiologists, & some of the techs know my parents! I'm definitely my parent's little shadow 😂☺️
I just finished my first semester of RT school!! I love watching your videos to reflect and see my progress vs yours. I have heard (from my teachers and 2nd year students) the first semester is The hardest semester in the program. Because everything is so new and foreign for us. My grading scale is similar to yours! 74 and below is considered a failing grade at my program. Thank you for all your videos 😬😁
congratulations! In my personal experience, the second semester was the hardest for me because of the complexity of the exams we were learning & I had an extra online class! best of luck to you in your program!
Keep going girl! I graduate from a bachelors program X-ray in May!!! I LOVE X-ray!! It’s such a great field. And I’m so glad you are loving it! Good luck 👩🏼🎓🙌🏻😍
I’ve been doing lots of ‘research’ on RU-vid about becoming a rad tech and your video and q&a was by far one of the best! Thank you! I was very nervous to look into it but now excited to start my journey
I am starting a LMRT w/ MA Skills program. I am married, a mom of 3, and a disabled veteran from the Army and OMG I am so skeptical but excited to get started.
I start my xray program in August and this was so helpful and interesting! Thank you.... you’re right, there are not many videos on RU-vid about this topic!
If I took classes last year (bio and English) but I dropped both classes. Is there still a chance for me to retake those classes with a better grade and get accepted? Or the D/F completely would disqualify me from the program you went to?
Thank you so much for this! I appreciate that you took the time to make a video about your program and radiology TECH. This is SO helpful to know before going into a radiology tech program.
I'm currently studying economics but the career as a rad tech caught my attention recently. That's the first comment that i could relate to :) i'd be very thankful if you share your experience❤️
THANK YOU for posting this video! I have been searching for a good RU-vidr or videos for rad techs, and you’re the first one I came across! I am currently applying to a program in Colorado that sounds very similar to the one you are currently in (: in our application process they go off of grades, an essay, employer referrals, character reference referrals and a panel interview of 8 judges! I just got the call at the beginning of the week that I got my interview, so fingers crossed all goes well. But I loved your video and found it very informative. And I look forward to watching more radiology videos from you! (: once again thank you for posting content like this!
Super interesting to hear how your program varies from mine! Thank you so much for watching, & I'm so glad you found it helpful :) good luck with your application!
Ohmar I just found out that I have been accepted! But they asked me a lot of behavioral based questions. Like why I want to be in this program, how I prioritize tasks, what type of people or personalities do I find hard to work with, what I think my greatest and weakest traits are, why I think I deserve a spot more than the other candidates, and they asked about any healthcare experience or volunteer experience
Super informative, im in the military and i already know im not going to be doing this for a very long time and looking into what i can do afterwards this is definately good option and i really appreciate all the info you provided
Just finished my program and passed the ARRT exam. Rad school was strenuous at times but was worth it in the end. Good luck with rad school! Great video.
Love this video so much!!! You’re one of the only youtubers I know of going into Radiology so I love watching your videos. My program seems super similar to yours with the orientation and clinical process! Loved the BE comment 😂 That’s crazy you ran the c-arm on your second day, I was terrified of it for the longest time!
It's crazy how there aren't really any other youtubers that are going into RT! When my supervising tech started moving the c-arm, the surgeon said "Um what are you doing? She's doing this" & looked me dead in the eyes & pointed at me 😂💩 BUT it went really well & was such a cool experience - still SUPER intimidating though!
Raya Juliana That’s awesome! ☺️ however, I’m studying to be a radiologic technologist, not a Radiologist - nevertheless, still very cool! I will definitely check out her content
OH MY GOSH! It is so fricken cool the reasoning of why you chose to be an x-ray tech and how your parents met! That is so so awesome! I am not even going into that field and I found this video so interesting! You are just so organized and so smart! Oh my gosh girl. Loved this video
Awh Steph, I truly appreciate it so much that you watched even though you're not even going into the field! You're seriously the truest friend! 💕 I definitely try to pretend I'm organized, but don't let it fool you 😂
Are there any helpful websites, RU-vid channels or apps that rad students recommend. I'm in my first semester and feeling a bit overwhelmed since it's all new to me 😅
Honestly I really wanna be in the medical field and I am so bad at math and can’t remember things n hate studying did you have to take chemistry in school ? N any advice ?
Currently in my first semester for rad tech. I'm reeeeeeally glad I was in the military before doing this. A lot of my classmates get really stressed out about things and I'm like, "... Really?" Then again, few things stress you out after having to hand someone's arm back to them or perform first aid on a collapsed lung by using some tape and a plastic card. XD
Super helpful!!! I plan to move to florida and start my radiology clases there and don’t know what to expect so this was amazingly helpful!!! Thanks ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much this was so helpful all you wanna see if people wanting to be nurses and those are the only videos available. I hope everything works out for you!
Nice to see a video on this! I’m currently about finish off my second semester in the same program, everything you’ve stated is on point. Good luck with everything! 😁
Like everyone else , SO GLAD I FOUND THIS VIDEO! Very first vid I find about Rad tech. So excited to start the program in October !!! Please keep doing more videos on Rad tech and how it goes !
Julia Kristine Thanks so much! I really plan on doing a RU-vid channel also to talk about my program because there’s SO many types and many different courses, and there is barely Rad tech videos out to inform people so thank you ! ☺️ Also, best luck to you in everything 💀
Hi Kristine, Thank you for your insightful video on MRI technology. It was incredibly helpful! I am applying to an MRI school next week and would greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time for a short interview as part of my application process. Best regards, khalil
This was so useful thank you! I’m going to be a senior in high school and am looking to do this for a living but could not find any specific insight into the program so this was very useful! My school offers a lot of the prerequisites as dual credit so once I graduate I will have all of my prerequisites completed.
There’s a community college offering Medical Radiologic Technology AAS Degree. Will you be an x ray tech after that? It says it qualifies to you take two other courses.
Did you remember all of the anatomy you learned before starting the program. I was recently accepted into a program. But I forgot so much anatomy, should I make sure I study all of it before starting program?
LOVE LOVE LOVE this video! and I am glad someone finally made a video like this! Love the barium enema comment at the end of that segment :,) I have done too many this past year it's sick.. LMAO good luck this semester!
Hi! I have plans to go to radiologic technology school when I graduate high school! I know this varies program to program, but do you only study X-ray or have you touched upon mri and ct as well? Thanks 😊
That's super exciting!! We do modality rotations our summer semester and observe to see if we would have interest, but I would need further education/training to go into CT/MRI/ultrasound/mammo etc. after I graduate with my RT(R)!
Julia Kristine Okay! That’s what I’ve been hearing! I’m interested in getting a masters and becoming a Radiologist Assistant eventually, but I wasn’t sure what was entailed in RT school! Thanks for the help!
Got accepted into the program for fall. Question: How do you memorize all of the procedures/protocols/details? Are we given a skills book to study before lab/clinicals? I'm ocd lol, I'm someone who likes to study steps over and over again. The thought of going to clinical and them just throwing me to the wolves without much memorization freaks me out a bit.
Every program is different, but my program didn't give me a skills book to bring to clinical. I learned it based on studying the material from my Bontrager textbook and physically positioning patients at clinical! My book did come with a pocketbook, however, we weren't allowed to have that out around patients. It's moreso just for reference when you have downtime. You'll do great! Don't sweat it :)
JRCERT accredited means that the program meets the requirements and qualifications so those graduating students can sit for the ARRT exam! I don’t know what CAAHEP is!
Hello, I just came across your video. I’ve wanted to do sonography however it’s super expensive and I wanted a less debt road. My counselor actually recommended for me to go into Radiology and then further my studies into sonography if I still want to. Thanks to your video, I was able to direct where I wanted to go.
So you did not have any prior medical knowledge at all I'm assuming? I am older, changing careers and just started my general ed process in order to apply for the rad tech program. I have no prior medical experience, but upon my research I have seen that it is extremely hard to get into the program without any experience. It doesn't make sense to me as young high school grads don't have experience so why would it be necessary? I have done shadowing a few years back and may try to do it again. Not sure if that will help.
I went to Wisconsin for my school as well, but it didn’t last long it was not my cup of tea so I went for nursing instead. Awesome video as always 👍👍🚨💕😍
omg this video is really helpful. i cant really find good videos that talks about this program and it helped me so much, i just want to ask something about the pre requisites. am i gonna be taking those first and finish all of it before i get to apply to the actual xray program? also, do you think getting a bachelors degree after the associates will be better? i would appreciate your response so much! it will def. help me figure things out for my college life and career
Pre-requisites are classes you have to take before applying to the program. Some programs do an interview process, letters of recommendation, and shadow experience. However, my program was solely based on grades of pre-req classes. If you're thinking of going into management, go the BS route. Otherwise, technologists with an AAS degree vs. BS degree make the exact same amount
Thanks so much for this video! So in-depth. Loved it ❤️ Your seriously like a super woman being in school and doing RU-vid at the same time. U Rock🥰 I personally procrastinate too much lol.
I’m currently enrolled in rad school and start my first semester in august. I was curious. Did u guys go over venipuncture or are you required at an X-ray tech to do that or is that mostly specific to Other modalities?
Yes, venipuncture is a required unit that programs have to cover! I never experienced it as a student, but I did work a job out of school where I trained into phlebotomy, and now that I'm in CT, I start IVs. It's a good skill set to know! :)
The only college with a radiography program near me requires you to become a CNA before starting the program. Is this normal? I was really interested in it beforehand, but there is no way I can handle bathing old people and helping people use the bathroom etc. I’m looking into trying to find an online program, but there are not many.
I probably wouldn’t recommend an online program for an RT(R) degree since this field is extremely hands-on! I have only heard of a handful of programs that require a CNA first, and some hospitals may require you to have a CNA to even apply for a job - have you looked into any programs in neighboring states?
You didn’t need to take chemistry 1 and 2 and organic chemistry 1 and 2? I had a 3.7 GPA, 3.5 math/science, but a C- in Ochem 2 lol, I blame senioritis since I was originally applying into pharmacy programs that needed a 2.7 GPA. I got in but decided I didn’t want to do it, and instead decided to finish my degree. If it’s really a point system, I know I got As and Bs in all my biology and GE courses.
Hi! I just want to ask, who does the injection procedure? The radiologic technologist or radiologist? Im just curious because i want to pursue Bs radiologic technology but i am very afraid of needles :((( thank you 😊
Hey girl I am interested in this field but I am afraid of failing also do u have to be really good at Anatomy to succeed and do u have to know every bone in the body to pass is the information too much to memorize
Knowing anatomy plays a huge part for being successful in this field. In reference to body systems, the gastrointestinal and urinary systems are the two we deal with the most. In regard to bones, you will need to know all of the bones and the names of their tuberosities/prominences, but you will learn that information in the program. You will also learn radiographic physics, which was the most challenging part for me
I start my Radiography program in August, I have a few of the basic essentials I always use for school. But I was just wondering if there was anything specific you would recommend to Rad Tech students for the classes? I did all my prerequisites online so I didn’t need much supplies, I feel like I’m kind of starting all over this semester 😂😅
Currently I'm Early Childhood Education student but I was looking into nursing for a back up career just in case and both x-ray and the regular nursing program at my college are to much for me for being someone who has a learning disability had a very hard time with the ECE program I'm now looking into Nursing Assistant. At the same time I'm so into becoming a teacher.
hi!! im 17 and im graduating early and i was thinking of going into the program i just wanted something that wont take long. im not very smart and i have a hard time learning things at the same time as others. so the pres are in my first yr? and then radiology is in my 2nd yr? also what do i do after i graduate (if so) idk what the ARRT exam is or none of that 😭
Every program is different, so you would have to talk to your school's academic advisor! But technically, no. Pre-reqs are all completed before you're accepted since they're part of what counts toward your application. Pre-reqs don't technically count toward the actual program length. In my experience, once I was accepted into the program, that's when my 21 months started
So i came here to hear tips and advice regarding the program because i am currently in my second semester and got distracted with your hair color. I am trying to get my hair close to your hair color. Did you dye it or is that your natural color? Thank you for the tips :)
Do I need to go to a CAAHEP accredited school for radiology tech? Because I know for ultra sound you do it but is it the same for radiology?? The school I plan to go to is JRCERT accredited
@@JuliaKristine yeah I think CAAHEP is only for ultra sound schools! I was a bit confused on that lol. But I’m going into radiology so I’ll be fine like you mentioned JRCERT!
For myself personally, I transferred colleges so it took me longer than average. My program (associates in applied science) takes roughly two years to complete the prerequisites, and once accepted, the program is 21 months straight
Hi Julia☺️ your videos are soo helpful and informative! I applied to the Radiology program at a nearby community college, and just found out I have an interview next week! My question is did you have an interview process for your program, and if so, do you have any tips on standing out and gaining admission? A more specific question I have would be did you bring any documents such as a resume with you to your interview? Hoping you see this!! Thank you in advance either way 🥰
Hi Haley! I mentioned in this video that I did not have an interview process as my program was solely based on grades. My advice for an interview would be to go into it as if it's an actual job interview. Possibly look up nursing school interview questions to prepare because they may be similar! I'm unsure if it's necessary to bring a resume, but it wouldn't hurt! Best of luck!
Hellooo, thank you so much for this video, it really encouraged me. I want to study radiography, searching for schools hasn't been easy😩 do you have any advice?
hmmm! Have you tried doing a google search of "*your state name* radiologic technology schools"? Either that, or search your neighboring states! Majority of the time, there are programs through technical/community colleges!
