Fifteen years ago, the world’s biggest passenger plane took off for the first time. The double-deck Airbus A380 took off on 27 April 2005 for a test flight from the factory in Toulouse. Even while it was little more than a concept, the aviation industry was enthused with the opportunities it could offer. In this video, we’ll go through all the airlines that operate the superjumbo A380.

The A380 was purchased by many of these airlines more for vanity than a real need. Now they are regretting it.

British Airways and Emirates have a good use for the a380. Costumers like Lufthansa wish they didn’t get the type but they still have routes for it. Korean Air and Asiana merging could create routes for the a380. Qantas has some of the oldest a380s and before the a350 came out the a380 made sense. Today they have too many a380s. As they only actually have 3 routes that the a380 works on which are Sydney to Tokyo, Los Angles, and the stopover to London.

If the PW 777 should be grounded for explosive engines, then the GP A380s (Korean Air, Qatar, Etihad, some Emirates) better be grounded as well for what happened on AF66.

There’s an ongoing inspection program on the A380 GP7k engines. I used to work on it in Korea, Qatar, UAE, France and Germany. I expect to be back on the program in a couple of months in Dubai as the PW powered A380’s resume normal flights. I got a call today to review data for the PW4000 blades.

THAI will retire ALL of its A380, just like Air France.

I found the lower deck a380 experience to be cramped, and the walls are really thick, limiting field of view through each window. The walls at lower deck are angled so window passengers can't comfortably lean on the wall

Sure wouldn't agree that "Even while it was a little more than a concept, the aviation industry was enthused with the opportunities it could offer" In fact, the "aviation industry", as opposed to certain limited segments of the aviation industry, had early in the game made it clear that there was plenty of reason to think there never be sufficient demand for a new jumbo (especially one the size of an A380). That is why Boeing, correctly, postponed an updated 747 and pursued instead the 787; PRECISELY because that is what the "aviation industry" WAS "enthused" about.
