I purchase the Cal-Digit Thunderbolt 4 powered hub in January (4 TB4 ports, 4 USB ports) and it has been reliable and a life saver. TS4 dock looks like the golden ticket.
I have been watching your videos and I appreciate your breakdown on Avid and Mac Studio. I went with Mac Pro as I have dealt with the whole peripheral problems with docks and adapters in the past. I was one of the people who started with going big 30k TDM with Mac and Pro Tools to dropping down my system to HD Native because of Pro Tools extreme price and the OS factor of Mac. Unfortunately I have to stay with Avid because of compatibility with other producers and engineers but Reaper and Studio One is coming in with a bullet.. Thanks Again
I have their Element 4 (4 TB4 + 4 USB) and it's great for simplicity. My external SSD [Samsung X5] (2,800 MB/s read + 2300 MB/s write) delivers those specs through it effortlessly. I'm always on-the-go so it's been the perfect thing as our new MacBook Pro's now have HDMI and SD Card slots already built in. I mean a total of 5 TB4 ports and 4 USB are enough for me when I'm not at home. :)
I have been using the TS3+ for a few years. I love it. I wish they would make a version that could also acts as a stand for the Mac mini /studio for that seamless look.
It just so happens that I'm in the market for a dock now that my USB hub no longer meets my needs. I'd heard about some issues with the OWC dock so I held off on that purchase. I will pull the trigger on the Cal Digital now that you've given it a thumbs up.
Hi, thanks for this. I have a Mac Studio (Ultra) due to arrive this month. Will I benefit much from this dock in regards to using my sample libraries/instruments on my usb-c SSD or will I be fine (or better off) using the ports on the Mac Studio directly?

I want this TS4 Dock and will get it when it's available but i did want to mention that I am daisy chaining my UF8 and UC1 via USB-C and plugging it directly into my system. This has neverr given me an issue actually.
Waiting on my Mac studio ultimate. Picked up a cal ts4 not sure it will work with my current high sierra os. Was hoping to keep old set up and then upgrade to new protools when the Mac studio arrives. The hope was to use the cal as a one connect to old Mac 18.4 protools if I ever had to go back from the new setup. But everything I’m reading says the cal digit needs a more recent OS. Anyway, your videos are super interesting . Keep up the great content.
I wanted to get this, but ended up getting an apple display with 3 usbc ports to use, they are more than good to power up my studio and hard drive, also there is less clutter and extras around…
Very interesting. I just got a Mac Studio and it's a fast machine. What's interesting is that it has plenty of Thunderbolt ports but I have 10 external hard drives used for various purposes including backup, but they're all USB. I'm exploring my options at this time but may have to consider getting a doc. Your video gave me some ideas to consider. Another interesting dilemma with the new machine. With my late 2012 Mac mini (old machine) I was able to get digital audio out of my Mac through a shared fiber connector on the headphone jack. The new Mac Studio, and from what I understand newer Mac computers no longer have a digital fiber connection shared by the headphone jack. I had my Mac mini audio through that fiber connection to my monitor controller (Avocet) therefore bypassing the D/A converter in the Mac and using the D/A converter of the Avocet. I was wondering if you know of any way to get digital audio out of an M1 Mac into a monitor controller such as an Avocet? Thanks!!!

I'm building a home studio to record drums, guitars, and vocals, and was wondering, do you have a recommendation of what interface would be better to use these days than the Apollo?
Are you using a thunderbolt/usb3 connection from the UFX+ to the dock or using a different port from the Mac? Have you tried different configurations searching for a better performance or you're happy with the first one you tried and that it worked? Greetings and thank you for your very interesting videos!

yeh... i bought one of those Mac M1 mini's.... total ripjob!! it wouldn't detect the SSD I plugged into it... other periferals also wouldn't work with it... i ended up simply returning the darned thing! cool videos... going back over your previous ones.. shout outs from Australia!!
I'd love to have more TB4 ports in my mac min... Only have 2 which is annoying.. But in regards to SSL UF8 - I have one UF8 and I connect it via USB-A directly to my mac and it works perfectly fine, doesn't need anything else. I use the USB-C to USB-A cable included in the package :)
Barry I think you meant 10 gigabits per second transfer speed for the usb 3.2 gen 2 not 10 gigabytes and 40 gigabits not gigabytes for thunderbolt 4 transfer speed
It looks really promising but there is a significant crowd of the buyers of this product that experience major issues too. On paper it seems perfect, but not quite sure if its ready for a studio environment.
I have not reading any issues with Caldigits new box and it’s been flawless for me. Owc different story. There is simply no better option that exist today.

What’s sux about the TS4 is that it is ALWAYS charging my MBP Pro M1 Max, which will ruin the battery, it’s always 💯 charged so doesn’t ever discharge when TS4 is plugged in. Wish we could keep the data transfer but choose to disable the charging when we choose.
I currently use the Cal Digit 3 port TB 4 hub ( similar to yours without the DP and Lan ) and have found it very handy. Apple used to have commercials selling the lack of ports on their computers.
I’m all about showing support for a good product but at this point everyone has known Caldigit is the best and they’re always out of stock! I’m gonna need everyone to chill with videos talking about it at least until I can buy myself one then please do carry on! 😂
Mine only took a little over a week when I preordered it from Amazon? I was told when I ordered it would be almost a month before it arrived. Pleasantly surprised.
You fail to discuss USB and Thunderbolt capabilities and those types of specifics. Do you know how many data streams can be used in USB 3.1 Gen 2 vs. Thunderbolt.? Is it 7, or more? What is the hierarchy of USB DATA? YOU NEED TO ADD VALID ADATA TO YOUR CONTENT HERE.

I ve recently purchase a 14 inch M1 MacBook Pro , and since I v been desperately search for someone's experience to get the right dock working with the right SSD 's ... I have some questions for you though: Do your sabrent nvme and trebleet enclosure paired well with the Caldigit ts4 ??? did you noticed any lost in performance ??? Do you think that nvme pcie 4gen are the absolute way to go with our machines cause they re kind of pricey though... But since I don't want to lose money and performance I think I already know the answer but still like to know your opinion since you re already rocking with what I got my eyes on... I got a lot of Kontakt banks, samples and virtual drums to manage + the recording session part of my daw (other ssd or partition a very big one ?) Do you know about the acasis 10 in 1 enclosure??? That's the one I got my eyes one cause it can support a 8 TB ssd and has also hub capabilities when I 'm on the road...
