I think a lot of it is just not hearing it more than once. If you could ask her to repeat herself, or hear it again (via Animus?), then I think this would have been solved a lot faster. The fact that the game gaslit us on the translation doesn't help, either.

While her language alone doesn't mean Brigid couldn't have been Anglo-Saxon, if she came from a long line of Welsh people, she would be Celtic. Just like the Vikings after them, the Anglo-Saxons had little impact on the genetics of Wales. It's only in later centuries that the intermarriage between Welsh and wider "Britain" introduced significant bloodlines into Wales. Even today only 30% of the DNA in Wales is from cultures other than Celtic. I really enjoyed the video, thanks very much to you and the translators.

Wow they actually really did their research, she mentions that her mum and dad are in Annwn, which is the Welsh version of the underworld (Underworld here is different to 'hell' it's basically the spirit realm you go to when you die where Arawn will greet you). I was quite disappointed at first as I was thinking they were going to leave out The Welsh and the Welsh language again, but hearing Brigid speak was a breath of fresh air, even getting to participate in a Mari Lwyd! Props to who made this happen, it was a favourite part of the game for me.

pretty much every version of underworld that's not "hell" isn't that bad, mainly because in those mythos its also the only afterlife there is bout the only one i can think of that is comparable to Christian hell is the Norse "Hel" but that could also be due to most of our sources being from after the chrisinization of the area

We're in the Animus (not just Accessing), and I don't speak Icelandic, Norwegian, Old English, Irish, or French. The Animus must be making those make sense, so why not Brigid? 1. I was so disappointed when the subtitles did that when we met Brigid. You can still have the joke of misunderstanding if you want it that badly by prefacing the character has a thick accent in the subtitles, or even saying "(Eivor cannot understand)". The player can infer from there based on context that only Gunnar understands her, and you don't leave deaf or HoH people completely in the dark on what she's saying. 2. a COMBINATION. that makes SO much more sense now. I caught the majority of her english words and phrases when I played, but I was so confused as to why i was still missing so much when some words and phrases were perfectly clear. 3. thank you for the video!

I DO get the point we are playing from the viewpoint of a 7th century Norse Viking, Old English back then was still a mutually intelligible dialect to Norse, with the Danish Vikings and East Anglians having least difficulty (like modern Norwegian to Danish, they probably joked about their grammar being like speaking with their mouth full of potatoes too!). The Welsh (Romano Britons!) Would have been treated as a truly alien culture hence the blunt "unintelligible" comments were subtitles should be. But as a "proud East Anglian" myself I wish they could have not described the East Anglians as Saxons, they were Angles and I'm quite sure the Welsh players don't appreciate Her being referred to as Anglo Saxon as she is speaking Welsh. :)

Same goes for the Native American language. And the Animus wouldve been the perfect way to do justify it. Wasnt it mentioned since AC1 that the Animus translates everything in English for the person in it? Because Altir wouldn't have spoke English, he wouldve spoke Arabic. Ezio wouldve spoke Italian. Heck, Connor spoke English because of the apple of Eden giving him such knowledge, but at least in his era, English was common(same for Edward). Arno wouldve spoke French. Shay wouldve spoke Irish, or the Irish accent was accurate to the era, etc.

Why did Ubisoft make the creative choice to single her language out and mark them as "unintelligible"? I can think of many reasons to not to bother with an extra archaic language (cost, minor character in overarching plot, inconvenience, discontinuity with rest of the game where no saxons speak old english, etc.). Even less reason to not just put the original script in as subtitle and leave the players actually confused. There has to be some creative justification to do so that I struggle to understand.

I swear I met her a few times and then I made out that she is actually saying some actual words. I stayed and continued to try and understand what she was saying, gave up after an hour

What I don't understand is how she's replying and reacting to what is said by other characters, but doesn't speak the same language.

I feel bad, I always thought she was dumb and spoke gibberish, but her character is actually very interesting

I kinda caught half of what she said, but the other half was hard as all Hel to understand at all... ...and I don't even speak English! Brigid says some lines if you interact with her post-wedding on Gunnar's shop, but I think it's only a simple thing like "how are you?" or "good day!"...

Oddly enough I almost understood Bridget speech most of the time. Like I would understand about 60% of what she said. Mainly using context clues and character speech patterns created by the writers.
