This is all the sections of this year's BAFTA Awards that featured Brokeback Mountain cast and crew. Including Kake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, and Ang Lee.
It's totally sinful that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN won almost every single International Award for a 2005 film yet lost the OSCAR to the much, much inferior Crash. It's a slight that will never be forgotten. Obviously, a tremendous amount of politics were at play to allow CRASH to win, a film that won no other awards ANYWHERE! Thanks to BAFTA for doing the right and honourable thing!
Im not an expert on who why how film awards are given - but the fact BBM didnt do so well at that years Oscars - hardly surprising ; for i'd guess that many Americans & institutions there probly ( back in 2005 at least ) felt profoundly uncomfortable with the subject matter of the film & its setting - in the American west , etc etc ......i remember seeing the film while working abroad in 2006 ; apart from being blown away by how good it was , it instantly hit me ; there s just NO WAY this movie could have been made by an American - simply no chance Turned out i was right
@@johnrenehan7406Ironic they end up giving it to Moonlight years later to make up for lack of representation for years perhaps. I was thinking of the Jonathan Demme film Philadelphia recently also and while Hanks won the Oscar, the picture wasn’t even nominated for best film. Oscar copped out for a long time. At least Moonlight and eventually Call Me By Your Name (being nominated) were recognized more.
so cute heath completely forgot he had to accept the award for them. i love how everybody is so serious, and then theres heath, just having fun. 9 yeaars, and i still miss him
wow , Absolute dedication to one of the most Brilliant cinematic works of all time. The BAFTAS got it right whereas the homophobic Academy "Screwed the pooch" How does a film WIN 20 Best picture awards yet LOSE the Oscar ?
Actually, it won over 90 Best Picture awards, world-wide. These would include "red states" (Conservative, politically) and "blue states" (Liberal, politically). In contrast, "Crash got 2 stars; out of 5), from a New York newspaper critic. And it was disliked by minority film critics, who favored, "Brokeback Mountain", by far!
Because the people behind the Oscars couldn't wrap their heads around a fabulous movie that happened to involve two men and decided to award an awkward, clumsy movie of the week as best picture instead.
The chemistry they successfully built up making the film, not to mention the experience of planning and filming those stunning scenes over and over -- it's got to cause a fair amount of bonding and knowledge of each other. I see the same tenderness sometimes between straight men who've been in a band together for 2 or 3 decades. Of course, Jake and Heath are actually pleasing to the eye, so it's quite different to see it in them. ;)
I LOVE the expression on Jake's face around 5:04 when Steven talks about the film and Ledger and you can see Jake casting a very quick glance at Heath. It lasts a second but there's so much tenderness and sweetness... I know, they're straight and all, but there's something about these two that just makes you melt and wish they were for real:)Or maybe it's just me
But he said the truth. We don't see them herding cows/cattle in the movie. They are herding sheep. Also, in 1963, in that country locale, there wasn't the term, "gay". They used "queer" at that point in time. These two were rugged men who would look askance, if someone said "gay". The term wasn't in their vocabulary!
Still love you HEAPS, HEATH. YOU ARE SO MISSED and LOVED by your legion of fans for your great artistry but even more for being such an incredible "bloke" everyone could relate to: straight, gay, black, white - all peoples EVERYWHERE. Rest well, you gentle soul! +
I KNOW! I think it's because Jake grew such an attachment to heath, that he thought of heath and michelle as a family. I guess he never really liked anne too much. but she was really good in the movie.
Hermosisima Ceremonia, Y Muy Bien merecidos Premios Bafta para Jake Gyllenhaal Por su extraordinaria Interpretacion de Jack Twist me Hubiera Gustado saber Por Su Subtitulacion en Idioma Hispano sus Dialogos.Todo su Contenido.
Y Este Magnifico Director Ang Lee Volvio Añicos Desmitificando El Oeste Norteamericano, con esta Sabia Direccion de una Nueva Forma de Amar.Ya Lo habia Hecho Tambien con ese Maravilloso " Banquete de Bodas"
El Guapisimo y ya Fallecido Actor Head Ledger tambien recibio su muy bien Merecido Premio Por esa Extraordinaria Interpretacion de Ennis del Mar. ya este Muy Joven Actor Con Su Muerte Nos Privo de sus Muchisimas y mas Estupendas Interpretaciones.
@GeekInChina well, you have to think. The short story begins with Ennis and the whole thing shows about Ennis. It never showed about Jack. That is what made him supporting actor.
A crime this iconic film didn’t win the Oscar, they literally won everywhere and yet a film that didn’t win anything like Crash won the Oscar, it’s so damn obvious homophobia in the USA blocked brokeback from getting it 😞 Brokeback still won in the end tho, made more money and is way more remembered than Crash
oscars is all money and politics, rarely do genuinely iconic films get awards just for being amazing silence of the lambs was one of those films, luckily, but a film about gay romance? of course some bastards going to step in the way
I loved BBM, but I loved Crash as well, so it was a really hard decision.. PS- Why did you cut the clips from the supporting actress category? It was just because Thandie Newton won?
Both Philip and Heath waiting to hear who won the best actors award at the same night both died not long after that. Both suicide how sad. How much do actors really put into their roles? It must effect the personality and who you are.
