There's a bit of a back story to this first train. First off, rare foreign power in this neck of the woods on CPKC 734 on this sunny morning, as a pair of CN SD70M-2s were leading this train. Next, the inbound crew ran out of hours and were ordered to park the train on the main, just west of St. George Street in London. Next, there was no replacement crew immediately available; so the train was locked down and shut down until a new crew could be called. So there I was, just after 8 AM, just me and an empty, quiet pair of locomotives... My buddy, Dan Richardson showed up too. To give you an idea of how long we waited, Dan was able to head out for an appointment and get back before the replacement crew even arrived. Oh, and I got a bagel because I was starting to get hangry. Be sure to check out a bonus shorts video that is going to be published on Monday September 9 of what happened while we waited. The positive news about waiting so long is that a westbound Herzog ballast train was slowly getting ready to depart out of the Quebec Street Yard. I knew it wasn't going anywhere, until 734 got underway; so I was banking on a quick departure, once it cleared the yard. It wasn't actually a super quick departure; but I stuck around for an extra 45 minutes. Two trains in less than three hours was a lot easier to justify than one train in two hours. I was rewarded with an SD30C-ECO and a string of 55 hoppers making good speed on its westbound run. As a bonus, it was an all-EMD day on CPKC for me.
