Hey guys, I thought I'd upload a video showcasing all Super Sounds in D2, since I have always loved D2's sound design. Perfect timing considering Strand is out now.
I love how you can hear what element each is. Solar supers have this higher pitched chime and flowy noises, void is darker, bwoomy sounds, and Arc crackles. Solar has this higher pitch that almost sounds like a bird call in some of them, and titan supers like sentinel shield have a knightly chime to them - then the darkness subclasses lose that chime and are all about the physicality of those. You can hear the strings of strand and the crystallization of Stasis. So good.
@@iponce2 Same, Maybe it's because of how much I hear it in crucible. However, Winter's Wrath literally sends chills down your spine when someone on the enemies team activities it because you know there is nothing you can do to stop it
Fun fact, the sound effect of Winter’s Wrath is a heavily sped up and modified recording of the sounds that a glacier makes as it moves over a long period of time. The sound designers at Bungie are next-level.
Fun fact: If any enemy in crucible uses spectral blades, keep an ear out. they make quiet high pitched droning when nearby, so as long as you listen you can at least know if you're in danger Also, anybody else think it’s cool how… alive strand sounds? Like for the titan berserk you can hear the strands moving on your or something like that. It’s pretty cool.
Good god I'll never get sick of hearing the Stasis supers. That deep sound of Glacial Quake activating is something else for me. And Winters Wrath is something people should fear. 😊
@@starlightrains Gameplay-wise I do enjoy and always have enjoyed D2. But I agree, animation-wise we could use some updates. I hope we get different types of animations for D3, if that ever happens.
Nova Warp is by far and away the scariest one to me. you can literally hear the warlock bending physics and causing the sound waves to distort, almost like an inverse sonic boom. It sounds like the sound emitted is being absorbed by the void energy and causing this crazy glitch sound effect, its absolutely fascinating and truly horrifying to hear in the distance.
As a Titan main, nothing brings me the same levels of joy as the sound of a Thundercrash activating. That build up of energy culminating in the burst of lightning before that earthshaking detonation on impact. Chills every time.
Winters Wrath isn't just the greatest sounding super, it has some of the best sound design in all of gaming. The power fantasy you feel when you casted it for the first time is unforgettable for me.
The split second of silence with Nova Bomb makes me feel so powerful. I love the way that Winter’s Wrath makes it sound like the original sound emanating from the trident is echoing around, but slowing down, like the air itself is becoming to cold, too still to even transmit the sound waves correctly.
It's interesting, I find it hard to really recognise the sound effect of Blade Fury and Silkstrike in the midst of crucible chaos and sometimes die to them. All the other roaming supers I can hear loud as day. I know partially it because they are new but at the same time I still think the sound effect should be more pronounced.
Agreed, the new strand supers are really quiet and blend too much, I was noticing this in iron banner last week. The warlock one even has a split second pause in noise during its activation They sound great on their own! Just blend a little too much
honestly spectral blades is the most terrifying sounding super. not because of the sound effects shown here, but because you hear this looming ringing noise whenever theres an enemy spectral blade hunter nearby. absolutely fear inducing.
Just got this in my recommendations three weeks after the fact. Thanks a lot RU-vid. >:[ Great video! Btw you missed a couple. Daybreak: Phoenix Dive has its own unique animation during super. Spectral Blade: I think has a unique animation for Quickfall as well. Or at least the unique ability to chain it back to back. I don't remember if Tempest Strike works during the Arc Staff super. A lot of the roaming Supers can still use their grenades. So it's kind of cool to see it in third person. Then if you really want be a true completionist then you can add on the animations from Destiny 1 like Radiance, Nova Bomb: Shatter, Hammer of Sol: Suncharge, Arcblade, etc. Plus the cut helicopter animation for the Arcstrider from the D2 Beta.
Astrocyte and Nova Warp can be so busted purely because of surprise factor. You can cover so much distance and move around so quickly. Especially on console, i always net like 3 kills with it
I love how behemoth sounds like tbh, it sound heavy Same with burning maul the bell noise at the end of it add greatness to it but it’s not that great atleast with me I’m not very good with roaming supers lol the only one I can use is normal hammers and occasionally void sentinel kind of, I really love using behemoth but it feels like it needs a tiny buff
A tip I can give you for burning maul is to use the light attack like a movement based shoulder charge, the same way I did at 1:10. You can easily pop your super, burst into a room, hit one heavy attack and wipe an entire team (depending on it's size)
@@thatguyhoody7964 never thought of bursting into a room I kinda play a lil defensively with my supers to either guard a zone or get rev’s in 3v3 also just noticed I’ve been using shiver strike wrong lol I didn’t know you had to hold it down to track people
Surprised not many people spoke about Chaos Reach. Hearing the initial cast, that very minor yet brief silence and then *boom.* The explosive crackle. And the chaotic deep sounding undertones that violently try to one up eachother as the beam continues. And as the super energy gets lower, the beam starts to dissipate and slowly the chaotic noises start to recede until you hear the slight boom to let you know the power has been expelled. And even after all that, the energy was so intense that you can *still* hear the crackling from your Warlock for a brief second when the beam eventually dies out. Not only does it excite my Dragon Ball Z monkey brain visually but it makes the attack 'feel' powerful - and I'm absolutely all for that.
As nice as these all are, you're missing one important part... the impact sounds! A big part of what makes some Supers feel complete are the sounds of them hitting the target. The three-hit metallic clang of Sentinel Shield; the rapid, dry bonks of a spinning Burning Maul; the single, dry clack of a Glacial Quake punch; the rhythmic, alternating slashes of Bladefury; and more. This video's already nice, but add those and it'll be truly complete.
the winter's wrath activation sound is loved by everyone and it's still underrated, one of the best sound design examples in all of gaming. always makes you feel badass, love this game
My absolute favorites are Nova warp, Winter's wrath, Burning maul and nightstalker it's just horrfying and such good sounds. Like the teleport sounds of the nova warp is just so scary to hear. Knowing someone dangerous is teleporting closer and closer.
Blade barrage sounds amazing and finally had one thrown at me and didnt take single tick of damage. Totally whiffed. Now I know the feeling from the otherside.
Love em or hate em, Bungie did a very good job at making these sounds AND making them scary to hear. Really sounds like the landscape suddenly changed just by hearing them.
What i see from hunter supers is just that cockiness factor. Silence and squall: twirl the kama just for funsies. Blade barrage, you quite literally spin around a couple times. Other supers have different cocky mannerisms that i find fun
well then, there is a lot of new stuff that i need to learn if i ever come back to D2 (i haven't played since mid 2022) but overall nice vids, keep it up
As a born and bred Defender/Sentinel, the sound of the Shield will always fill me with joy but man, hearing the sound of the Maul being summoned is just 👌
I believe We'll of Radiance has another variation when casted. It's when you jump and instantly pop super as soon as you are about to land on the ground. Though, from my experience, it just basically removes the first half of the sound design of the super, which makes the sword landing a little bit more impactful imo
My friend did his burning maul during a 1v1, he hit a wall during it's activation.. and I just couldn't stop laughing at the sounds of a bell when a titan decked out in gold armour hot a wall at full speed off a jump.
Haven't played destiny 2 for quiet a while but some of the supers seemed to have been changed, the hunter staff where you throw it like a spear definitely seems new
As a Titan main I do love pretty much all of the class sounds. But you Warlocks and Hunters are terrifying with a huge chunk of your supers. Like take Chaos Reach 3:41 for example, just the sound of its initial charge then the sound of the blast is awesome. Having been a Hunter main at one point, there is still something satisfying about hearing a Shadowshot or Spectral Blades.
I agree, it would've been nice if they had brought the new charged melee ability we got with solar 3.0 (the one that's tied to an aspect) as an super. Or have a similar shut down super like silence and squall, just for solar. In a way where the Titan would cast both the hammer of sol and the burning maul hammer, throw the smaller one into the air and hit it with the big hammer. Basically how Thor throws Mjolnir and sends it flying with Stormbreaker in Endgame. For Titan specifically I think this could be something like a hammer-comet super. Maybe even shatter the smaller hammer into comet pieces
WW has the best sound hands down also well and slik strike. But also don’t forget hammer or sol titan TTIK launch where that sound was just insta panic
