The backup singers, not the stars, do this song justice!!! Merry, Lisa and Sasha do it the best! Lisa has a special place in my heart because she takes this to soaring heights! Merry's was perfect for the recording and the premier voice of 1969. Her vocals and sound capture the angst of that era. A moment in time that can't be duplicated.
Lisa took this song to levels unknown to this planet the voice is crystal clear, it’s absolutely phenomenal. Then comes the build up to the solo which is a musical overload-on the brain, neurons start firing off at rapid pace, & you are Rocktified to the max. She had the chance for the Supreme Level of Experience. playing with The Rolling Stones, with her vocals for any other artistes of ROCK prove that. in other words I"m gonna have to place Lisa Fischer the no 1 of any who tried the song, her performance of Gimme Shelter at her shows is one the best interpretation of the song, oh I'm rambling, too stoned, jus sayin !😎✌😎!
I've seen Sasha in Paris. I had chills she was absolutely amazing. Merry Clayton is the original but Lisa revived this song. Great performance by Chanel & Florence too ! Thanks for this great video Ed!
Lisa Fisher... Great powerful singer...similar like Tina Turner.. She's got the voice, the groove and the move.. Faraway miles from the others.. Which I don't comment at least two, a casting error... In RU-vid, we can see part of a U2 concert playing ( or killing the song...) Gimmie Shelter, then Mick appear singing as invited and for the feminine vocal, invited too, nobody expected, the great Fergie... Stunning..!
Mary Clayton = THE GOVERNOR Say no more, ❤️⭐️🌞❤️ .. The Part we’re her Voice Cracks and Jagger Whoops is just MEGA so primal and pure brings tears to the eyes. The Stones got Liquid Gold on tape the night they got Mary to come down and record this and they know it, hats off to these Ladies there is some great singers here but Mary Clayton just has that Iconic quality that just can’t be matched.. Nobody can beat the original but Lisa is great. The others don't even get close. And the seem to know, because they all try to compensate but all they do is overacting.
Cindy Mizelle on the 1989 Steel Wheels tour would trade off with Lisa some nights on the Gimme Shelter solo, she sang in that spot Dec 3rd 1989 in Toronto and on some of the Tokyo shows, Lisa wasn't in the show the opening night in Philadelphia and another singer named Pamela Quinlan handled Gimme Shelter and on the European leg in 1990 both Lorelei McBroom and Sophia Jones traded off each night, Lisa 100% is the best
Nice, I didn't know about the other female singers did the job in on the Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle tours. I know about Sophia Jones and Cindy Mizelle, but I didn't know they did this part as well. Thanks for informing
Lisa’s vocals and stage presence are sorely missed and a disgrace that she was simply dropped because of her age after over two decades on stage with the Stones.
You gotta have some gospel in you to sing this section. Those who did did a somewhat a decent job. It’s Lisa and Sasha for me although I came to know this song cause I’m a huge MJB fan. She did an okay job. Gaga wasn’t all that good and she has a great voice.
Lisa fisher is the best vocalist I have heard . Whitney Houston could have easily done this song. Gaga sounded horrible. Mariah Carey could have done this as well and one more...Ariana grande maybe !
I’d say Merry and Lisa are tied . Merry gives you the emotion of what the lyrics actually mean. Often people only focus on the way someone sings this song but forget about the words and the message of the song. Lisa gives you the range and power. I’d give Sasha second place. Cindy Mazelle in second place with Sasha. I’m sorry but Florence and Grace Potter were awful! It’s a noooooo.
