When Keith and Mick were feuding in the late 80's ,and Keith formed the Wino's,he was asked if he was worried about performing without Mick.He said no,but he was very afraid of playing without Charlie.
Charlie's the most laid back drummer ever. Always there, holding it together. Had a real talent for hitting between the beats to make everything sound so interesting. Modest, but when saw the camera, he'd give such a happy smile.
Charlie Watts was never the most flashy drummer. He wasn't known for the frenzied solos of Cream's Ginger Baker, or for placing explosives in his kick drum like The Who's Keith Moon. Instead, he was the subtle, stoic heartbeat of The Rolling Stones for almost 60 years. We all Brazilian fans will miss Charlie. RIP 🇧🇷
Charlie stopping on drums is his signal and way of telling the rest of the stones that it's time to move on to the next jam. Now that's what I call POWER! 😎👍
I love how you can see and how the music unfurls and weaves itself together loosely at first, then becoming tighter, and tighter, as the clip goes forward. As wonderful to see the band at work, It is the maestro who leads. Good Golly we miss you Charlie! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. 🙏😭💔💔👅
@@Neil-Aspinall Greatest Rock Band in history, watching a song or album come together is for music lovers not downer moaners like you.....go slap some abba on the turntable
So glad I came across this list of videos with Charlie. Exceptional filming of them jamming too. Terrific, thanks. 👌👏❤️So glad I came across this list of videos with Charlie. Exceptional filming of them jamming too. Terrific, thanks. 👌👏❤️
The history of this band. Just legends. How Keith is still alive defies all odds but the legacy of music these guys have gifted the world with is pure joy. I realize now that their music has become part of the sound track of my life. When did that happen? LOL..
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan. Amazing to see them still playing so very well for all these years. Just shows you quality shines over most of the current CRAP...
@@faststratjo2006 charlie rocks The Stones are in sync living legends looking forward to no filter as long as mick is alright ~♡~much love to the stones cheers from NY Ny
This is the creative process. At this stage, it's not much fun to watch. It only begins to be fun for the musicians (and onlookers) when a song starts to form. And Mick J is a pretty good guitar player, and loves to play, but says his guitar-playing is worse than his singing, so...
In my opinion they all had their own style of music playing and always made it come together into something great remember folks this is when music was made by knowing how to play instruments not beat machines and sound remixes # real talent
It is shocking to hear the difference. While Steve is a top pro, he doesn't have the short delay in the beat that made the Stones so distinctive. But credit to him, and to the Stones, for one last tour. I will be there! And God bless Charlie - the greatest of all rock drummers!
@@Methilde No one ever will replace him. He was unique, and his love of jazz I think is partly what made him special. I'm still thinking of him and very sad he is gone.
RIP Charlie Watts, you brought style and class into the band. I don't know who was playing the bass in this session since the camera never showed the player, but really good too, went along with Charlie's rhythm perfectly
Me too Enforcer! They just announced this past week they are going back on tour.. I’ve had the tickets for a year and a half… they are my heroes ✌🏼 never thought I would see them again after covid
They obviously still love what they're doing! You can tell. They could've comfortably retired a long time ago, but who needs that shit? I say keep on rocking boys!
charlie´s grooving game is still going strong... interesting to see that he does his typical thing where he doesn´t hit hihat and snare at the same time but when he plays a beat on the right he doesn´t skip the beat
The best part of watching this (I play the guitar) is Charlie Watts. Watching him drum on that first song (2:06) shows a man who is the master of his domain. Pretty cool stuff. (BTW - another cool drummer to watch is Tom Petty's drummer, Steve Ferrone . The guy has chops)
@@artysanmobile they were just jamming, suddenly mick sings some verse over this and they find a good phrase and then they begin to work around it, but before this that’s how songs born, just trying to find something to work about
The Stones should continue to put out their fabulous music. They are searching for the Imaccalulate Conception, lighten up lads. Your music is very good . The audience will tell the story. This studio version is excellent!
Some of the best fun with performing arts is had out ofthe public gaze, just mucking around, jamming etc, like this, in old clothes in some shed or garage or back room etc. Watchingdancers doing this type of thing is great, too, intheir raggy old clothes, unwashed, hair a mess, all sweaty... Ballerinas carrying on like this, just warming up, going through the moves, cigarette hangingout of their mouth as they do impossible stretches, splits etc, taking a few munches from a chocolate bar, to keep the energy up... Some even wearing their favourite football team's guernsy andlong sox and shorts... But, despite the appalling attire and greasy dirtyhair, sweatdripping off them, etc, they still look so passionate and sexy, artistically...Ioften saw painters or photographers asking the studio operator for permissionto sketch or photograph them in this very natural state. Theycouldn't understand why visual artists wanted to draw or photograph them like tis, rather than on stage, all polished up, in their fine stage costumes etc.
Excellent ability to blend with one another naturally. It might appear they're not listening to one another, but actually are building momentum while warming up and practicing. This is how good music is made. Enjoyed this very much.
This is great! I happened to see their setup in Los Angeles, they were cutting tracks for the Emotional Rescue album at RCA. Larger room, so there were slightly larger amps, PA. etc. They were very cool, let us use the bar when they weren't in. Oh yes, I can remember one night the engineer told us that Keith was sleeping on the couch, so the bar was off limits that evening (Keith would sleep when the session was over, so he could start overdubbing as soon as he was ready)!
I give these cats credit .......after all these years, theyre still doin it as a band, live in the studio .unlike most bands that go in & do their tracks individually.
He's right. Wtf you all trashing him for? It's not hard info to learn. Most bands, for decades, have recorded their parts individually. Not all, but that's definitely the norm.
Based purely on this clip, I think I have finally realized they are greatest Rock N Roll band ever. I know the Beatles in their time were Masterful. But there is something to be said to see that band, still together, still basically in tact jamming and being.....well.....a BAND.
I'M FROM PHILADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA AND I FIRST SAW THE ROLLING STONES, IN1981 WHEN THEY OPENED THEIR U.S. TOUR HERE. SAW THE SECOND SHOW 80DEGREES SEPTEMBER 26TH THEY ARE THE BEST IN CONCERT!! I SAW THEM AGAIN WITH MY YOUNGER BROTHER (RIP) AT VETERANS STADIUM, 1997 BRIDGES TO BABYLON. ALSO I USED TO HAVE THE LARGEST STONES COLLECTION IN THE EAST COAST!!!!! GOT TIRED OF LUGGING IT AROUND FOR THIRTY YEARS. SO I SOLD IT CHEAP!!!!! I WON U2 TIX WITH A ROLLING STONES POSTCARD!! JOSHUA TREE TOUR1987!! FROM THE HOME OF ROCK'N ROLL FM RADIO STATION 93.3 WMMR OH, YA, YA!! OH YA!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪
it's about the band. Individually they are not the best at what they do, but together, despite all their trials, tribulations, and warts, they are the ultimate embodiment of rock n' roll
Poor Daryl Jones, playing bass for the Stones for decades and the best he gets here is a passing shot while in the background. Even the keyboard player got a cutaway. You deserve better, sir. RIP Charlie
@@TheStompboxer & the end of 'How Can I Stop' , very mellow jazz... ( & I love his 'OPEN' sign that he takes wherever His Band plays, even in the studio !! )
"No one can jam like the Stones"?? Really? Little Feat's Lowell George was once asked if he wanted to jam with the Stones, his response..."Why? So we can jam on "mona" for two hour? There is a band called the Allman Brothers which, when it still had Duane, could wipe the floor with these guys. Just sayin.
@@hudsonneuro7796 I agree. But there’s a difference Btwn Jam bands as a genre, like the Allmans or Wide Spread Panic etc and a non-jam bands like The Stones, just jamming. Which is what he was saying the Stones were doing and I agree w him him.
The Rolling Stones, a pretty good heroin addicted garage band at best. Get about six or seven really good songs out of them altogether. The rest is just bubble gum rock
Now this is a treat. Don’t usually get to see and hear Mick playing an instrument. Greatest rock band of all time, still together and putting out new music.
Sevi, I couldn't put it any better. First time seeing this. I just shared It with a few of my hard core stones fans. It was a treat for sure. Stones greatest of all time. Mick best front man of all time.
The key is being able to hold it in between your ring and middle finger. Also, don't squeeze too hard and squish it. I used to be able to do it with joints and cigars - I never smoked cigarettes, but I did smoke other things. Lol.
@@afrocoolio25 You're spot on with the method used. You think Keith taught Ronnie? No venue put a stop to them smoking on stage, but Mick wasn't a fan !
