One of the many reasons he's one of the best villains in gaming is because his personality is realistic. He's a calm, collected, and kind king to his people, yet he's wrathful towards his son's killers.
@@TheFirstCurse1 He’s calm and collected, but certainly not “kind” to his people, as they only serve the purpose of propagating death to feed his worm. Although out of the 3 siblings he isn’t the worst to his soldiers, that would be Xivu Arath without a doubt
“You… are the last hope of the light?” Always loved that line, he sounded humored and dumbfounded that this little thing would stand before him. I don’t think any antagonist had as much presence as oryx.
I like Savathuns energy, but you gotta realize that she’s cunning and deceptive, while oryx is more active and physical. It’s the pen vs the sword (logic). Would you feel more threatened by someone coming at you with a pen or a sword? That’s what “presence” I refer to, that feeling that keeps you on your toes. Savathun was more threatening when we didn’t understand her motivations, oryx was threatening because he was coming to kick our ass. Both are impressive in their own areas, but you felt it more with the taken king.
@@DefactoOverlord I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a reference. Or even a common saying by darkness-affiliated entities. I’m glad Bungie isn’t afraid to reference Year 1 D2 for their story arcs, IE the final mission of Witch Queen directly mirroring the final mission of the Red War: storming a city to save the Traveler, and fighting an enemy with the powers of the Light that uses guardian super abilities (Ghaul and Savathun use similar attacks, solar sword projectiles, arc projectiles, and nova bombs) while the Traveler is overhead. Only while Ghaul actually stole the Light, Savathun earned it.
@@halberd-3291 the deep is a physical place, the depths of the oceans of fundament where the worm gods were imprisoned(and where rhulk injured the leviathan). Thus it’s a symbol of the darkness
@@DefactoOverlord Rhulk is known as Worm father. He was the one who originally subjugated the Worm gods, and brought them into the Witnesses fold. He was also the one out In charge of watching over the Worm gods, and by extension, the hive. He also was the one who ordered the worm gods to manipulate the three sisters, and bring them under their power. Thus creating the hive. In reality, Rhulk is the one true “Hive God”
@@AxisChurchDevotee i think it more has to do with casting, a similar thing happened to Eliksni characters with a lot of voice lines(Eramis, spider and Mithrax) as its just easier(and probably cheaper) for them to speak normally. compare that with Eliksni with a small amount of voice lines like the lieutenants who sound more alien.
@@LeekyKale Eh, it wouldn't take much effort to put their voices through a filter. They did so for every other Hive god. Savathun _should_ sound human, as she's known for shapeshifting and tricking people.
I think they could have made Xol sound more menacing and foreign. He, or rather the Worm Gods, are integral to the larger narrative of Destiny. I feel like that’s deserving of something more.
@@robertmoon2183 Xol is considered the weakest worm god, but the point still stands. The Worm Gods are very powerful and we’ve yet to understand more about them (though I’m sure that’ll come in time)
Well, like most of the world, most of the universe speaks multiple languages, even in this universe, America still just speaks English for the most part lol.
i remember back in d1 the first mission where hive was introduced. i was wandering aimlessly in the dark.. and then i heard them *Thrall* i literally ran away from my seat, crying and screeching as a thrall
I feel like out of every Hive God, Oryx had this sort of cruel and sickening respect to the Guardian. Even if he does mock the Guardian for “being a warrior of the light” the way he welcomes them to fight before and during the raid? Its cool.
While a worm god would be a great raid boss, I think having them be a dungeon boss would be better. To me, the worm gods are just parasites that, similar to Savathun, feed off of trickery and manipulation rather than outright violence. I think a great dungeon would be, similar to how we defeated Oryx, destroying central points of feed and then taking the worm god down as its in its hungry state. This could combine the fantasy of "going to kill a big monster" with some sort of puzzle mechanic in the rest of the dungeon like Levithan that involves as shutting down the feeding.
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) With Crota only having two voice lines but having such a deep epic voice that when they probably bring him back as a hive guardian he sounds just as menacing with equally menacing dialogue.
@@ifeeldeadinsideD2 Crota was stuck in the crystal sleeping, we killed him just before his soul was awakened. Then the 2nd time was in the Throne World, which was the permanent death
That's funny, because that might just happen. Right before The Final Shape, They may revive Savathûn next season but they'd have to cut a deal with Immaru, Savathûn's ghost, and tell him that they may have to fight the witness together.
What if in witch queen Oryx pulls a "Seat of Sacrifice" and helps us beat the shit out of savathûn (This makes no sense story wise but it would be dope)
Ngl when Xol said “You shall drown in the Deep,” it reminded me of when Rhulk said basically the same thing. Both chilly as hell the first time I listened to it
Gonna have to add Savathun onto the list of Hive that you cannot help but get intimidated by, whether it be through menacing tone or elegant omniscience.
Crota and Xivu Arath sound the most like nigh-immortal dark alien gods, Savathün sounds frighteningly human, and Oryx sounds somewhere between the two, his voice at once human and primeval.
