If you remembered Hanabi closely looked up to neji and learned how to fight like him. That’s how she overpowered Hinata and overtook Hinata’s place as next clan leader.

Alex Davis no she took the place as clam leader because Hinata wanted to be a housewife to Naruto. Also in a canon novel Hinata and Hanabi fought as adults and Hinata mopped the floor with her lol. The leader isn’t always the strongest lool.
