In this episode of Trail Physics, RideHub's Principal Instructor Matt Trotter explores what has been described as "one of the most frustrating sections of trail in Squamish".
This episode Matt is back on the awesome #squamish trail Entrails to take a look at the Rock Garden that appears within seconds of dropping into the trail. Because #entrails gets used as an access trail to the many slab trails in Squamish, riders need to pass this feature to continue their adventures and many riders struggle to ride this move well, and many choose to hop of an walk.
Matt will take a look at the 3 things you need to consider to approach and ride this section well, and one of them might surprise you! He will talk about different approach speeds and what you can do if your speed isn't quite right, and what the outcome will likely be so that you can be prepared!

One of the most practical tutorials series I've seen focusing on riding and with actual examples!

I instantly feel a lot better about all my frustrations on this section watching everyone do the same things I've done.

Absolutely, it's always frustrating when a specific section causes constant problems. This is why is can be important to take the time to session moves, as opposed to just moving along when you don't clear it. :-)

This is awesome! I rode Alice Lake for the first time a couple weeks ago and was struggling with a lot of tech. Next time I go I am going to look you up to coach me.

Matt, thank you! I've been trying to clear this for a long time and after watching your video it only took me a couple of tries! Keep these great videos coming.

These are great tips for any janky sections, thanks for the time spent on this! The rear-tire slide is definitely one of the cooler, simple feelings when you can keep moving forward.

A lot of riders don't even notice they are doing it when they get through this section cleanly

Lolz, I trained on trails like that for my intro to mtb. So that does not look to bad.

Entrails is ridiculous and broke my brain from start to finish. Have to come back.

I ended up having to walk one of the main line features which almost never happens on a black trail. Techy rock roll that banks to the left before a hard right hand berm. There is also a scarier line off to riders left that is a steep chute that might be easier but is definitely higher speed. I couldn't get past the two big tree roots at the top of the techy main line. Would be amazing if you covered some more of the techy sections on entrails.

Fascinating how you can dissect 3 rocks and talk about them for over 10 minutes. The couple of times I took this trail, I made it over somehow, but will definitely be more aware next time. Thanks

I feel like I've made it through that first section and up the climb without dabs maybe 10% of my attempts haha

Indeed, this is just the first bit of what is a challenging climb! Bite it off in chunks.

:-) / Have enough momentum to get you through the move... it's a fine line, otherwise time for ratcheting and a bumpier line.
