In this video I am attempting to make my Starlink satellite 12v and building my own flat mount housing to go onto of our motorhome so we can go further off grid on our travels, all this whilst trying to save the warranty on the Starlink just incase it ever has to go back.
Here is a link to all of the products I use to convert the Starlink to 12v

Now to find someone who can do this for me in the UK

I believe you can buy flat mounted kits in the uk, just might require some assembling.

That box will last longer than Elon Musk 😂 Excellent work there, mate. A lot of leg work and a great result. Hope you are back on the road soon.

Thanks for your reply. While waiting I ordered the IWiss IWS-2820M and also the Engineer PA-09 to give them a try. When they arrive and I've had a chance to try them I'll post here in case anyone else is interested in using these fiddly connectors and pins.

Hi, the original dish has air vents & the router & 48v converter generate heat. Have you thought of maybe venting the base then using stand-off washers to create an air gap when fitting
@livinginkevlar
@livinginkevlar Месяц назад
I didn’t know they had air vents on them but maybe that’s why some starlinks get water damage. I thought it was best to not allow any moisture to get in. I’m working on an updated starlink video because I’ve changed to the Boondocker dualie power supply now.

Another great video Cam the only thing I would say is don’t trust the little black caps not to let any moisture in on their own Hope the rest of the van repairs are going well All the best graham

That was an awesome video. You clever bugger lol. Joking aside Cam. That is absolutely fantastic. Lots of vanlife people need to follow this. Sure Louise at @campervibe could build one for her van as being a chippy herself. Fabulous video mate. Very clever stuff 🙏

thanks for the info re the connector, i am part way through a similar mod, but i have used a piece of upvc window trim for the side of the frame and a piece of perspex sheet as the bottom cover., im not worried about the warranty and bought two when they were £99 ! i have followed oleg kutkov's 12v hack to the dish itself, eliminating the need for the 48v. next stage is to try and split the data from the power in the incoming cable, possibly by using a splitter, really would like just one cable to the dish and n extra bits inside, so still searching and watching as many you tube starlink teardowns and projects as i can. AUSY8 has a you tube about Olegs method and shows ir working !

Thanks for the comment, very interesting I will have to check his channel out. I’ve actually changed my set up now and use a boondocker dualie dc power supply, so far it’s working really well.

Thanks for the video. What crimping tool did you use? The factory crimps look quite rectangular. Mine tend to flatten out causing a situation where the pins get too wide to fit nicely into the rectangular hole. Without perfect crimps the pins are likely to fall out or fail during use. The only tool that I've seen specifically for the JST SZE-002T-P0.3 pins cost $A2k!!! so a cheaper alternative that does the job nicely would be great.

I know what you mean. Mine did the same but then I used my leatherman to correct the shape of the pins afterwards so they fitted better. I used “SN-58B Ratchet Crimping Plier Crimper Tool 0.25-1.5mm² AWG24-13 for Terminal Kit” you can find it on eBay and they did seem to crimp the pins nicely just a small tweak is required for a perfect fit. Hope this helps 👍🏼

hi!But if you close the wifi router in the waterproof box you will have good wifi signal quality?
@livinginkevlar
@livinginkevlar Месяц назад
We have no problems with wifi signal, the box is made from wood not metal and my motorhome isn’t made of metal either so it does block any signal.

Doesn't the starlink move round tracking satellites ???
@livinginkevlar
@livinginkevlar 3 месяца назад
It does but as long as it’s pointing directly up you should be able to pick up a satellite, if you look at the Gen3 starlink it doesn’t have the tilting function anymore because there are more satellites in the sky.

What is the advantage to doing this? I don't see any.
@livinginkevlar
@livinginkevlar 3 месяца назад
You don’t have an inverter on for 12-14 hours like we would and you don’t have to set up the satellite every time you move.
