Robert Spencer, liberals yesterday is not liberalism today. Then they cared for the Constitution Rights Privacy and Small Government. Now, they’re Antichrist AntiAmerican AntiConstitution AntiGod AntiFamily and AntiRights! The liberals became the new marxists, and the conservatives became the new liberals!
Back in the day when comedy was comedy you could actually make a joke about somebody else's ethnic origin and everybody just laughed it off and went about their merry way and all of their lives sad those days are gone
@@jakeserdynski4338 You’re missing the point, that show brought attention to the absurdity of racism, bigotry and misogyny by lampooning guys like Archie. All in the Family was brilliant comedy and way ahead of it’s time.
FBN Flavius Broadcasting Network Hey it also did and currently is happening in Canada and other world leading countries like Germany etc. a Limbo dancer couldn’t get under the bar that’s been set for letting all the low life’s in. I mean hey I thought charity starts at home, not anymore.
@@jermiester7772 The problem with Canada is every time someone from Ottawa comes up with some dipshit idea they turn to BC and Alberta and take all the money they need to pay for it.
@@XxowendanxX I don't know about that. Minneapolis turned out well for Mary Richards, Lou Grant, Ted Baxter, Sue Ann Nivens etc. Then again that was 50 years before 2020 lol
Either that or the whole systems been rigged and designed to play out this way for some time now.. we have been warned for decades by various whistle-blowers, and some even ended up slandered disappeared or dead!
Back in season one he was reading about the Vietnam protestors and said “they should have thrown the whole damn bunch of them in the can” I laughed so hard when I heard him say that. It’s in the episode “Edith does Jury Duty” which is a real classic.
I’m the same age myself. But I’m shaking my head. Only maybe 1/10 of my hair and beard is grey, I wear shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes most of the time, and I like a lot of things kids do. But those “Okay Boomer” remarks are just downright insulting. Because I’m Generation X, not those entitled you know whats!
Scott Baker Looks like we got our work cut out trying to set an example to the younger world as to what logical thinking, adaptability, and taking one for the team once in awhile is all about.
This was back during a time when we could all laugh at our selves and make fun of actual racists and not get canceled. Who would ever believe that America would become what it has?? The founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves....
Archie could always give a great speech. Great how he and Mike always had differences. That was a great show. A lot of that wouldn't fly today on TV however.
I remember this when it first came on when I was a kid. I could tell they worked very hard on this scene. One of the writers for the show must have gone "Wait a minute! We need a Bicentennial Minute for Archie Bunker! What do you suppose he would say??", and he wrote this scene.
Archie Bunker's bicentennial minute. I'm old enough to remember the bicentennial minutes. It was the summer of 1976, I was 17 years old and they showed these all the time. I loved them. Hard to believe that was nearly 50 years ago!
They aired all the shows from the 70's not long ago, but now it's hate speach instead of comedy and topics that cause discussion. Those were great days for TV
@@20alphabet Can you not understand incredulity? We have the right to protest. This is America. If you attack an American we have not only the right but the constitutional backing to pick up the tear gas grenade and throw it back and the aggressors. The "authorities" do not have the legal right to try to violently disperse a peaceful march or protests. The cops got what they deserved. Bricks in the 70's and 100,000 fists, boots, bats and news coverage in the 2020's. Yeah I'm just down right vapid. The reason they laughed at Archie was because his view points were fucking ridiculous. The actor himself was against bigotry: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3XMVQ7kRu_k.html
Totally hilarious. Archie here just wanted to be be close to his grandson in NY so he found justification for Mike not to accept a job offer in Minnesota - - that he should not be a bigot who takes the job away from a Black candidate,. He schooled Mike on American history by eloquently paraphrasing the poem on Lady Liberty. Funny, Funny Funny. Superb acting by the late Carrol O'Connor.
Note that Archie worked on a loading dock and was able, on his income, to own a house in Queen's, and support his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. Why can't a person who works on a loading dock today do likewise? What has gone wrong?
@@NJGuy1973 I agree completely. I would also add that the following year (1972) then - President Richard Nixon made the pilgrimage to China, the end result being the export of jobs and manufacturing to that country and also to others.
THIS SCENE IS LEGENDARY!! I think it's the funniest scene in the history of television comedy. Archie throwing it back at Mike. Telling the Meathead that it's him that was the Bigot all along. Preaching to Mike and Gloria about "Lady Liberty" standing there in the Harbor with her torch on high. "Send us your poor, your dirty, your dead beats. And they came crawling in like ants. Your Japs, your Chinamen. Your Krauts and Your Hebes." "And they're all free to live in their own separate sections." "THAT'S WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT BUDDY!!!" Archie's Hair Brained, Twisted Logic, is what made All in The Family so great. This scene even edges out Archie's view on religion. When God had Samson take a Jawbone out of the Grass and destroy the Army of The Philippines!!! Ten notches above classic!! Norman Lears Master Work was a beacon of how brilliant television comedy once was. When the World took itself just a little less seriously.
In case you're too young to get the reference, in the mid-'70s one of the networks (CBS?) marked the bicentennial of US independence with a minute-long daily feature, "200 years ago today," where a celebrity would describe a Revolutionary War event that had happened exactly two centuries before.
Not anymore. Just how "hateful masculine racist murdering oppressive evil misogynist islami-phobic sodomite/trans-phobic xenophobic and white" America is now. WTF....
It's what's in your heart. Words don't mean shit. It's your actions. I'm sure we all have been victims of discrimination. I believe when I was young I had a hard time finding a job because of my heritage.
Funny line Even if the only thing people know about them is from the news Which means they know almost nothing Violence gets coverage and the vast majority of the actual peaceable protest gets little coverage
@Bend Me Shape Me Yes violence can be an element at times But if you have ever actually been part of one you would see that they are largely peaceful There are protesters that want to get violent but it is the minority What I have observed is that the tensions rise significantly when riot police arrive on the scene Conversely much less tension when not there By the way if you don't like violence You definitely want to stay away from celebrating this day
@Bend Me Shape Me Haha Too funny man You are in favor of violence then As for true blue, although I'm independent, considering our choice this year I will be voting blue
@Bend Me Shape Me I don't wear Nike You are funny though I am an American and I love freedom I am certainly not a cop hater unless they murder someone of course I can sort out the good from the bad And I am definitely not a veteran hater. I leave that to the government
That was totally hysterical..That's why we can't ban stuff. This show wasn't racist, it was an education lesson against racism and it was funny as hell. Unfortunately, we still have WAY TOO MANY Archies in this country.
In those days people didn't take life too seriously they could laugh at theirselves one of my favourites was when Archie went back to high school to get his high school diploma and the American Indians.
I'd like to offer another "Bicentennial Minute". You see, the phrase "Dad, burn it anyway!" has a deep meaning in our history. In 1775, Thomas Jefferson found that the King of England had sent a decree to the colonies requiring a tea tax. He and his family had a copy of it. Thomas complained about it along with his father, Mr. George Jefferson. George wanted to throw the decree into the fireplace. They both agreed that taxation without representation was disgraceful. They asked Thomas's mother Louise what she said about it. She said it was the king's order and they all had to obey it. Whereupon a frustrated Thomas turned to his father George and said, "I don't care what mom says. Dad, burn it anyway!" (Patriotic music starts here). So, there you have it: "Dad, burn it anyway!" helped ignite the American Revolution. That's the way it was 200 years ago today.
0:54-0:58 - That would mean that that Lou Grant, Murray Slaughter, Ted Baxter, Rhoda Morgenstern, Phyllis Lindstrom, Georgette Franklin Baxter, and Sue Ann Nivens would have been "coloured" on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Omg! i watched this 10 times , Archie calls meathead a bigot, and ive never seen this episode before wow, i would love to find out what this episode was called or like what season at least
He spoke about some ugly truths-he was very aware of all the inconvenient stuff that still goes on today. But let me tell you, he also had a heart of gold for his family, and even Mike Stivic.
In an episode where Lionel Jefferson took Mike to task for his extreme liberalism , he said something very similar. Archie's actions were the result of ignorance, not racism.
