REMEMBERING YOU (Closing theme from All In The Family)
Words by Carroll O'Connor
Music By Roger Kellaway
Got a feelin' it's all over now
All over now we're through
And tomorrow I'll be lonesome
REMEMBERING YOU.
Got a feelin' the sun will be gone
The day will be long and blue
And tomorrow I'll be cryin'
REMEMBERING YOU.
There's a faraway look in your eye when you try to pretend to me
That ev'rything is the same as it used to be.
I see it's all over now
All over now we're through
And tomorrow I'll be startin'
REMEMBERING ....
Sad because we're partin'
REMEMBERING ....
Consolate my heart in
REMEMBERING YOU.
THE FAIR USE ACT OF 1976:
One of the rights accorded to the owner of
copyright is the right to reproduce or to authorize
others to reproduce the work in copies or
phonorecords. This right is subject to certain
limitations found in sections 107 through 118 of the
copyright law (title 17, U. S. Code). One of the more
important limitations is the doctrine of "fair use."
The doctrine of fair use has developed through a
substantial number of court decisions over the years
and has been codified in section 107 of the
copyright law.
Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes
for which the reproduction of a particular work may
be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news
reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
Section 107 also sets out four factors to be
considered in determining whether or not a
particular use is fair.
The purpose and character of the use, including
whether such use is of commercial nature or is for
nonprofit educational purposes
The nature of the copyrighted work
The amount and substantiality of the portion
used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole
The effect of the use upon the potential market
for, or value of, the copyrighted work
The distinction between what is fair use and what is
infringement in a particular case will not always be
clear or easily defined. There is no specific number
of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken
without permission. Acknowledging the source of
the copyrighted material does not substitute for
obtaining permission.
The 1961 Report of the Register of Copyrights on the
General Revision of the U.S. Copyright Law cites
examples of activities that courts have regarded as
fair use: "quotation of excerpts in a review or
criticism for purposes of illustration or comment;
quotation of short passages in a scholarly or
technical work, for illustration or clarification of the
author's observations; use in a parody of some of the
content of the work parodied; summary of an
address or article, with brief quotations, in a news
report; reproduction by a library of a portion of a
work to replace part of a damaged copy;
reproduction by a teacher or student of a small part
of a work to illustrate a lesson; reproduction of a
work in legislative or judicial proceedings or reports;
incidental and fortuitous reproduction, in a newsreel
or broadcast, of a work located in the scene of an
event being reported."
Copyright protects the particular way authors have
expressed themselves. It does not extend to any
ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in a
work.
The safest course is to get permission from the
copyright owner before using copyrighted material.
The Copyright Office cannot give this permission.
When it is impracticable to obtain permission, you
should consider avoiding the use of copyrighted
material unless you are confident that the doctrine
of fair use would apply to the situation. The
Copyright Office can neither determine whether a
particular use may be considered fair nor advise on
possible copyright violations. If there is any doubt, it
is advisable to consult an attorney.

'All in the Family' was recorded on tape before a live audience!"

AND, the laughter was at least occasionally 'sweetened' with a laugh track, as many many shows were, and still are. That is because, they couldn't/can't adequately 'control' the audience if/when they wanted a big response. Also, a studio audience is as much a part of a broadcast TV show, as is what's happening on the stage (because their responses are broadcast to the infinitely larger TV audience, to 'encourage' them to respond at home -- people will laugh if everyone else is laughing).... This is one reason why TV productions can't and don't charge for tickets to be a part of an audience (another reason is that the 'show' is usually assembled from various live 'takes', many or which may need to be repeated several times -- maybe even in front of different audiences).... The productions could use a completely 'canned' laugh track, but the non-required announcement of having a 'live audience' is mostly a sales-pitch for the show (at the time, people had become aware that many shows used laugh tracks, and some felt that using a laugh track was deceptive or 'cheating'... So having a 'disclaimer' that the show was 'before a live audience' imparted a perception of integrity).... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laugh_track#Early_live_U.S._television,_film;_"sweetening"

I used to physically edited 2" quad tape. This is where you marked the tape with a grease pencil and cit the tape. You then placed a chemical known as "edivue" onto the tape so you can see the frame pulse. You then cut the tape, gone onto the next point, did the same thing, then joined the two end together with very thin splicing tape. You placed it back on the machine to watch your edits :)

Carroll added the lyrics afterwards. They performed this on Sonny & Cher and Carroll tells the story behind the song. The clip is somewhere here on youtube.

Another great piece, the opening theme song "Those Were The Days," was written by Lee Adams and Charles Strouse, who also wrote "Bye Be Birdie."

I'd like to hear Jean Stapleton sing this in her actual voice. She could actually sing quite well. She just sang off-key on the theme for comedic purposes 😂

I know that both Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton have passed on, but I think it would be kind of neat to see a reboot of All in the Family with Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers, Danielle Bresbois reprise her role as Stephanie, and see what Joey is like as a grown man
