MM 750 commander, then mm marshal, then mm armada grand and now bolero powerplus (all "feels" same as per my father) and within years will end up in roxx😂❤
I remember my cousin (rest in peace) driving us in his mahindra jeep going through an old british bridge ( unused now but still there) during my childhood
yes when i went to my village the major or commander i used to admire that roar of the engine n i still cant forget that revv, also we want the maxx line up and the bolero episode.
Evo India, you do know your audience very well. It's the urge to share somwthing which is close to you is amazing. It's not everyday you see this much of curated vehicles in a single video. This is Happiness !! Heartfelt Gratitude!! Now that Roxx has been unveiled. FJ series will be much more comfortable on this chassis. Mahindra should do something like Jeep Safari from nation-wide vehicles.
People need to understand that we Indians love jeep because of mahindra and not because of jeep itself mahindra has done so many things in last 7 decades and because of those changes and evolutions the jeep has become an integral part of indian automotive industry so jeep heritage is mahindras history as well and people should not directly say that mahindra is a copycat.
100% agree with what u said and also not to mention the contribution mahindra had in rural India, where having a 4x4 was not a luxury but a necessity !! That's why people like us in the western ghats still love , cherish and drive the older mahindras till date. It makes me sad when people, not knowing the history and contribution of the brand blindly call mahindra copycat.
Very well said. We should have that patriotism not only because Mahindra is Indian company but because as one of the company in the industry it has done so much and has evolved into one of the giants in automobile industry. Don't know why some people talk negative abt Mahindra. It has produced several vehicles till today which are Reliable, Rugged, Sturdy and Powerful catering to all type of customers in India. Any way wish Mahindra does even better and better in coming days.
I didn't know the CJ4 was so old. I remember my family used to have it in the 80s - early 90s, back when my father was posted in remote rural towns in Mizoram. I remember the roads were aptly called "jeep roads" because they were always in terrible condition and the only vehicle capable enough to traverse them were the Jeeps. This video brings back so many memories: The sky blue Jeep of my childhood, the rugged grab handlebars on the front passenger side, the weirdly shaped but functional bonnet hooks, the basic but stiff bumper, the side ventilation doors near the footwells, the bare-bone gear levers, the old-school dials, and so much more! Thank you, Sirish and Team Evo for the trip down memory lane - A big fan from Mizoram.
Mahindra Commander was missing. It was the defacto passenger carrier till 2000s after Mahindra Pick-Up took over it. 20-22 passengers were forced into it. 4-5 passengers hanging on the back. It was never short of power.
What an episode Evo india!! Mahindra has, is and always be special for me just like any Indians. My fond memories with Mahindra start with an MM 540 which my dad used to own in a white colour while he was working in Tea plantations of Kerala. I still remember me standing and holding on to the metal beam in the dashboard whenever we travel and the 3 year old me feeling like a badass Man!!😂 Since most of my life were in plantations, I was growing up seeing these jeeps, be it the MM 540, the cl500, Invader, Thar, Bolero etc. Soon after I became a legal driver, I used to drive a 2012 Thar Di which was my dad's company Vehicle in a plantation at Neliampathy hills. Initially I never used to like it since it was crude and bare bones. But once I start driving it, My god, it was a blast!! I always use to drive with the front windshield opened, and pretends to be police since it was White 😂. And must say, it great fun to drive this badass on a hilly road. I'm just crying inside that I'm not that kid anymore who used to stand inside my MM 540. But Sireesh my bro, I tell you, this episode was a time travel to my own life which was good back then. Thankyou again to the entire Team. I wish I was part of this. Sireesh I really hope I meet you someday where we talk about some old cars. Fingers crossed 🤞
My machine 2013 thar crde is head turner even today with its manly looks. Looking forward to keep it as much as I can. New thar roxs is going to be my future family car.
i love the armada. My neigbour had one untill 2014. used to go school in that. earlier we also had bolero gen 1 glx, which is a redesigned armada, and it was such a comfy car compared to the other bolero lineup. All power window with backlight, smooth engine, and ride quality wasnt harsh like the boleros of that time
@@evoIndia yes yes! we used to do so many trips on it. I still miss our bolero 😄Turning of keys 3 times for glow plug was also done in armada and bolero glx. That thing would easily do 120-140 kmph on speedometer. Loved the sound of peugeot engines, much better than clattering DI. The front passenger seat was wide, and was able to seat 2 people. I used to sleep in it at night drives. Thanks evoIndia for this video
My family has clasic, Major, thar di , Bolero, than scorpio s10 for 10 years now s11 clasic and xuv 700 . We never had any other brand because no other cars can last in village areas of rajasthan. Mahindra has my heart 💗
What a lovely episode of gone but not forgotten! Totally loved the shoutout to Behram sir. What a gentleman, while busy redefining the automotive world, he also found time to help so many kids(then) restore and maintain our first fiats and jeeps!!
I'm a proud owner of an Armada, which my grandfather bought in 1995 after his retirement. The beast still runs and give me thrills everytime i drive it. My father has spent lot of his time and money to keep that Peugeot engine running.❤ Thanks evo India for this video.
Mahindra Marshal, Festara, Economy, Commander, FJ470 (MAHINDRA VAN), Voyager Van etc. should've also been in this video. (It might be difficult to find them, which is a fact!)❤ Loved the reunion🎉
Feels so good to see... I do drive 2017 Thar before that I used Classic for some time and it was just "HELL OF A RIDE" now though it's a completely different with the '17 Thar it is incomplete in many ways but it doesn't matter when you take it to off-roading where instantly you will love it the way it tackles terrains, i do long distance in it... the most beautiful thing you stop on freeway for a chai break and you cannot hesitate to take camera out and clicks some pics of it "Damm I own one!!!"
Hi, Evo India Channel and host Shrish Chandran, Congratulations!, For making one of the best video on long journey of Mahindra and Mahindra's "Gone But Not Forgotten", truly a heart touching experience. Hats on to all those legends M & M veterans, who created an automotive history in India. Special thanks to Mr. Adil Jal Darukhanawala, an automotive legend himself, came out with hard back book on M & M journey and evolution., will deffinately buy the book. I think the Turing Point, the models such as MM 350, military model was for today's Thar, Commander for Armada and then Bolero, but CJ 160 pickup was the classic design innovation of that era. Round curved wind screen, side engine, quarter glass for wind/air deflections, till air-conditioning was introduced in India, was nostalgic, kudos to the owner, who still maintained, looked great. Shish yourself and Channel done a great jobs, lots of pain and efforts to bring all those old models together for this shoot. Job well done. Do expect same sort of story with Tata Motors! We enthusiasts do deserve that. Good Luck and looking forward to Channel.
This one is crisp and short, but super informative, involving and intriguing. One of the best videos of jeep classics ever made internationally.., extremely well put together. I have seen all of the videos about jeeps, offroad vehicles, Willys etc.. there’s no video anywhere close to this one.. keep up the good job team Evo..!!
Superb one from Sirish. Reminds us that we have kind of forgotten how these evolved and how interesting times it was. I remember the number of times my friend's pre owned MM540 in the 90s went to the workshop. The armada and commmander experience we had. Real nostalgic path this clip took me to while bringing out so much info that we wouldnt have got from anywhere so easily. Thank you for this .
I hit the LIKE button by just reading the title of this GBNF episode. Elaborate, nostalgic and done par excellence. This will be that favourite movie you can watch end number of times and I’ve already watched it twice in 4 days, being on a holiday in Bali & Singapore. Massive Thanks to Evo India for putting this one together. KUDOS.
Evolution to Revolution!! Hands down ..This was the best episode !!! @sirishchandran evolution of Indian SUV!!! What an episode to CJI to major to Thar !! As in today’s existence!!
Superb presentation n amazing topic... My first 4 Wheeler was a Mahindra CJ3B 1964 left hand drive... I was crazy about jeeps since my childhood... All I knew that this vehicle can go anywhere.. Back then we could only see maruti 800 , fiat n ambassador.. I am talking about the year 1986..the golden tear where most of the vehicles were new to India.. Now I was so obsessed with the Jeeps that when I started earning.. My first 4 wheeler was a Willys cj3b 1964 left hand drive. that I bought in the year 2004.. Imagine in 2004 we had honda CR-V n accord.. N camry n carola.. And my choice was a left hand drive 1964 model.. ❤❤ that's called love at first sight... Now I own a modern car .. But still drive a MM550 daily to work... Just cannot get enough of it... ❤
The Left Hand Drive CJ-3Bs were WILLYS and not Mahindra. They were built by Mahindra under license by Willys Overland 😊 In fact, Mahindra never had the rights to use the CJ nomenclature when the agreement ended. That's why the CJ in the lineup was changed to CL 😃
Yes Manindra only got the cj3b dies here in india after 1969 once the willys CJ3B production ended. After that Mahindras effort was mainly move the steering to Indian conditions. The grille name were changed to JEEP from WILLYS. Then in later after 1975 , the name again changed to MAHINDRA. It was until production until 1993 . What a machine …
Loved the moment Sirish took his son on the ride in the FC. Passing the baton of passion for automobiles and driving. Awesome video as always. Keep up the good work team. Never been a Mahindra owner, recently drove a new thar 4x2 petrol auto and am planning to get a 4x4 diesel manual for the shenanigans as a +1 addition to my garage.
@@Newbutold No Offense to other automatic drivers, just don't get the jist of auto trans, hate that the "shift is denied" if you try manually keeping them in higher gears even for normal day to day driving, lower mileage, low reliability and the conventional ZFs are still to this day are laggy and jerky even on top of the line mahindras/tata/kia/hyundai etc(have definitely test drove every auto available in the sub 50 lakh market). Love manual, got a petrol manual daily, squeezes in 22kmpl in a city, awesome on highways. Would never swap for an automatic unless it's a pdk or better. Above all, some of us actually prefer to put a bit of effort in driving our cars rather than letting a computer doing it for you. Keeps you attentive, not complacent.
@@devashishvaid fair enough, I love manual cars but the comfort of automatic transmission has spoilt me. At least in the city, I wouldn’t want a manual car, it’s just tiring to me. Also, Some of the Torque converters are Aisin in Mahindra, VW, Skoda and others, they are pretty seamless IMO, but of course driving habits differs and so does the gearbox response.
@@Newbutold Haha, yes. We all are spoilt in our own ways. Thanks for reminding me that the VW ones are the ones I somehow disliked the most. A crude Kia auto felt better tuned to me weirdly. As you said, spoilt to own driving habits. I do love the appeal of autos, maybe in a wafty saloon or a gearbox as good as the pdk, But as relatively young I am in my age, am very old school in my likings, I would choose a manual over an auto in a heartbeat if it were offered by the factory.
Dear mr Sirish, thank you for another wonderful podcast. In 1977 the Mahindra fc 260 d was launched with the Perkins make diesel engine. This was before the Peugeot diesel engines were introduced.
Well the Bolero LX 4x4 series should have been included as well. Anyway I love how you guys went on to share the history of Mahindra. The Legendary vehicles in our midst.
Fantastic content! I feel it is not just Mahindra's history but also says how industrial growth happened in India across all the industries and gave us the current sophisticated life style. I think every youngster should watch this video to understand how we become what we are today. Thanks a lot!!
Hey, i really appreciate your efforts for putting up all these jeeps together. Great explanation. Thoroughly loved this- I’m a proud owner of 2019 THAR Crde and have been using it as a utilitarian load carrying work horse besides offroading and will continue to use it as long as I live !
Used to travel in a Mahindra FJ Minibus for my daily school commute, absolutely hated the vehicle then for its cramped interior, small windows, rear facing first row bench and the non existent sound deadening which made even routine conversation impossible. But gradually over the years, learning the history of the Jeep lineage and especially the Jeep Forward Control has made me appreciate the long bygone memories of that old clunker now. Really appreciate this episode, seemed like a history lesson and entertainment all rolled into one!!! I still have fond memories of the fabulous "christmas tree" of tell tale lights that FJ had on its dashboard!
Honestly it is a treat watching all this legends in one frame. After owning mm540, thar old and new I personally feel that mahindra should focus more on reliability.
A small suggestion: please make a video on jeeps made in mandi dabali, in terms of engineering, reliability and viability. Is it worth spending money on such jeeps or to go directly for stock mahindra vehicles shown in this video.
Practically every GBNF episode is such a treat to watch. Along with nostalgia that these stories bring, it also gives them them the due respect. I personally have had very little with the Mahindra Jeeps. The very first memory of the Jeep that I can recall was back in 92-94. We used to travel to our school in Madikeri, Coorg by old Lambretta riskshaw. Once in a blue moon, when these would go for repairs, one Richie uncle as we used call him, would come to pick us up in a Jeep. though I don't remember the exact model, It was a dark blue Jeep and those rides in pouring rain brings back loads of memories. Other than that, its been mostly traveling in a overloaded jeep in Kerala or close to Mangalore, very rarely though. But these Major Jeeps are a err.. Major workhorses. The ways they transport people, with the driver held in place but people sitting next to him on the right side and the rest literally just hanging around. Not just Major, most of the Mahindras are, especially in some parts of Kerala, or tourist places where you need 4x4 to climb steep inclines. They make it look like a walk in the park. Modern Mahindras are a different story, the invasion of Electronics means a lot goes wrong with it. Though mechanically its mostly good. Hoping to see what the Thar Roxx does to the lifestyle segment
@@evoIndiaIt was much needed episode. Well done. Thanks for sharing those facts about Mahindra. We as Indians should feel proud for the achievements made. Keep going @evoIndia need much more of Mahindra from you. Thank you
This was a brilliant video idea by Evo to do as a sort of precursor to the upcoming Roxx review to build up steam. Not just that, this was an interesting automobile history lesson too!
Hello Team, I enjoy watching this series. Being a magnet to old cars myself and owning a couple, I request you to do an episode on the Toyota Corolla and etios ( ps I have a 2006 Toyota corolla, you are welcome to review mine as well )

Wow Great Video, In Apr 68 the last LHD 3Bs were roll out but some claims that Mahindra had manufactured the LHDs 3Bs in 70s as well but I think those were for export market, CJ4/CJ4A were introduced in 68/69 I think even seen 72 CJ4A with 2.2 litres Hurricane engine 3 speed, with T18 TC and later in 1975 they have introduced CJ500 with international engine. RHD 3Bs were manufactured till 93. MM440/540 were based on CJ5, and thar is the successor of MM440/540/550.
The slowness of this car's evolution is painful - as bovine as the worst of Indian cows! Thank God for the Thar and the Thar Roxx...it is symbolic of the birth of modern India, and it was very fitting that it was premiered on Independence Day!
That blue one, My neighbor has one.... He was a driver in Up secriteriat.. He somehow got the one he was driving...that blue one... I always found so amazing when he clean it on daily basis...it seems the man is in love with that vehicle...
even today jeep means mahindra to South Indian rural folk, in western Ghats many tribal villages use this for connectivity. the Mahindra Van, still avilable in rural Tamil Nadu used to be cost effective picnic/ religious travel of large families , lastly before NDA govt improved Rameswaram- Dhanushkodi - road, last stop was Mukund Rayar Chatiram (coast guard outpost) , after which these vans took people to arichal munai( eroded corner) of Dhanushkodi. people performed pitru ceremonies on the shore, beautiful place
You made this video memorable as you promised earlier when requested for Pratap Bose interview. That FC truck & tempo, nostalgic videos especially watching & that engine rore. Parallelly we can also see Adil's stories on BSA 650s. Anything else left from Evo India to excite us today?
I still remember as a school boy trying to learn driving in late 1980s (probably in 1989) first on a left-hand drive Mahindra jeep that we had, though I can't recall the model now
Although i’m Not very interested in off roaders, its great you made a video on these. Didn’t know any of these except armada and thar crde Can I request you to make a video on the alto and include all generations from M800 to AStar and facelifts of alto 800 and k10
Man that Mahindra MM540 was the first car i fell in love with as a kid. I still clearly remember when sometimes my Mama used to come pick me up from the school and all my class mates used to be like Police police lol. And by the time i reached an age to understand cars, it was sold off and that was when i felt my hear break for the first time. Haha. Good memories.
