I can definitely see them falling in love too bad it wasn’t a good first impression when they first meet and I doubt she wanted to just kill him like that she only wanted him to run away but would only want to kill him if he didn’t get off the planet but she does look scary with her hood on I can also definitely see her being or becoming a Jedi I wish we could see her as one and she was kind of giving into the dark side when they first meet but it’s understandable except that cal wasn’t really what she thought and believed at first

​@@michaelverdon7252 Yeah, she was obsessed with revenge, she let it consume her, but when she learned Malicos lied to her she managed to snap out of it. I think Cal showing her compassion helped her get past it, just compare her lines over time: She went from "Oh I won't do a thing. But my murdered sisters? They will have their revenge!" To: "I've spent years, waiting for a chance to avenge my sisters. I'm finished waiting" They both went through a bit of a transition, look at Cal's attitude towards Merrin before and after Illum: "Stand down, if you attack me again I will strike you down" to "I know what it's like to lose everything, and Malicos was wrong to use that against you. We don't have to be enemies" Really they were both just dealing with a lot of stuff and once they figured things out a little they were able to be their true selves and get along. I think her becoming a Jedi is actually a really interesting idea. The fans clearly want her to take a more active role. If Merrin becomes a Jedi, she could hypothetically be playable for certain sections of the game, like Ciri and Geralt in Witcher 3.

I'm sure in the next path she will get much more screen time (or at least I hope so 😅)

She looks scary with her hood on I could definitely imagine and see them falling in love is a shame that when the first meet they think they aren’t on the same side or she at least thinks that at first

​@@michaelverdon7252 I think the fact they start as enemies actually works well. I think the whole thing in general works well honestly I've had a lot of experience with dealing with emotions, especially recently, and I know how hard it can be to deal with your emotions, and I think even though they don't focus on it too much, the way Fallen Order portrays these characters(at least Cal and Merrin, I haven't thought in depth about the others yet), how they deal with their struggles, and their personal growth is actually done really well. Merrin lost everyone she ever knew about at a young age. If you've ever lost someone, you know how hard it can be, but she lost everyone, and she was left alone with no one to comfort her(technically the Nightbrothers were still alive, but they're not exactly emotionally suppotive). The only thing she could do to cope was to keep practicing her craft, honor the dead, and hope for a chance to avenge her sisters. Malicos came along and promised her that revenge, and she felt that it was the only way to make things right. She got caught up in the toxic spiral of hate and resentment, and when Cal came along, she had someone to direct it all towards. Then she learned that Malicos had lied to her, and she was overwhelmed with anger. We never see her during the time in between that and Cal's return to Dathomir, but I think I can imagine what it was like for her. After she had driven Cal and Malicos away, she didn't have any distractions, and she had to deal with everything that had been weighing her down. She now knew Malicos never intended to help her avenge her Sisters, and she had given him the Nightsister secrets. Imagine the guilt of realizing that in your quest to make things right, you had ended up making things worse. That desire for revenge was one of the the only things that she ever had that she thought could help her move on from her overwhelming trauma, and she was back to square one. After years of being alone(I guess the Nightbrothers exist but they're not exactly the kind of people you can emotionally invest in), she had tried to rely on Malicos to help her, and he manipulated her into giving him her secrets, fueled her anger and grief, tried to control her, and led the Nightbrothers(the only kin she had left) astray. She knew what she needed to do next, she had to stop Malicos. While Merrin had been focusing on her trauma, Cal had tried to avoid it. He felt he didn't have the strength to overcome his past, he felt like he was a failure. Look at the things the Dark Vision of Jaro Topal(the literal manifestation of the voice in your head that says you're worthless) says to him: "I would have survived had you not been so weak" "Your fear cost me my life" "Frail as always" "Your will is weak. You lack discipline" "My blood is on your hand, apprentice. You are a failure. A weakling. A traitor... You are no Jedi". Cal thought he didn't have the strength to face his past, he thought he'd be better off just trying to ignore it and move on, and he internalized his fear, his guilt, and his shame. But this only made things far worse. He couldn't be honest with himself, so everything just kept building and building. Cal lived in constant dear of being discovered, and that kind of fear can weigh you down in so many ways. Even though Cal was close Prauf, he was still too afraid to tell him who he really was. Cal wasn't able to fully understand and appreciate his friendship with Prauf until after he was gone. At 9:36 Cal seems to imply that one of the reasons he felt so lonely was because of his fear of being discovered and the challenge of being able to trust anyone. Cal was only able to start recovering once he was able to be honest with his peers and himself about who he is. Even by the time he reached Dathomir, Cal still hadn't addressed his trauma, and the visions and memories he saw in the Tomb of Kujet completely overwhelmed him. With the help and support of Cere and BD-1, Cal finally came to understand that failure is not the end, but a valuable and necessary part of personal growth. He was able to understand himself, his emotions, and his hardships. He realized that as long as he kept fighting, he could overcome his struggles, and he could face his past. When Cal encountered Merrin the the Tomb, she was very cautious, but willing to listen. This was the first time they really got to learn about each other, and they made an immediate connection. While at first Merrin was skeptical of Cal, but when Cal spoke to Malicos, she realized that he was different. Cal and Merrin never said how they feel about each other, but the connection they've made is obvious. I don't know if there's a romance thing here, it's still too early on for them to say, but whether there is or not, I'm excited to see where this story goes next.

Indeed. She seems to be a good character. One of the first Light-Sided Nightsisters since Ventress. Later on, that is.

Imagine what it was like for her to hold that lightsaber. Imagine all the trauma and the memories that have haunted you for years. Imagine having control over an object that's made you so powerless in the past. And imagine the feeling of having someone you thought was your enemy express so much sympathy and compassion towards you. You can see on her face that she's going through a lot of mixed emotions. The body language and facial expressions in this game can actually be really good sometimes.

Absolutely, you could see the pain in her eyes especially after having watched the clone wars and seeing what it must have been like it makes the whole story so much deeper and more full.

Agreed. As I see it, if Cal's gonna take the whole Jedi thing seriously, he's gotta abide by the whole "attachments are forbidden" principle too, which generally precludes romance by definition.

I can see your point. It's possible that there could just be friendship, or I could see there being an unspoken thing, if there is romance it seems like the natural progression based on their interactions so far. Merrin and Cal never directly talk about how they feel about each other, but that hug, those faces, their tones of voices, non verbal prompts, the music, awkward hesitation as they try to figure out the best thing to say, the sense of relief Cal showed when Merrin decided to join the crew, the immediate connection and trust between them, the eye movements, the slowly progressing comfort they have with each other, the part where Cal looks to Merrin and waits for her to nod before he cuts the holocron, and Cal's clear enjoyment of Merrin's jokes are all compelling ways of showing their feelings rather than telling. I'd honestly prefer an unspoken thing over a highlighted romantic subplot, but that's just my preference. I think for now it's best to keep things between them more subtle.
