hey guys so i noticed a few of you have mentioned her last name is rosen and not wexler. i googled it and all i’m seeing is that it says wexler so i’m not exactly sure which ones correct! i just put the last name it gave me so i apologize if it’s wrong
I think in the 4 town video her last name is Wexler, but it’s another one in the coloring book, and *another one* entirely somewhere else? I’m pretty sure Priya have 2 different last names too
Miriam is so underrated. People seem way more into Priya's quietness and Abby's pure chaos (no disrespect though I like them too) and they overlook how kind and supportive of a friend that Miriam is
Miriam is literally so vital to this movie. She’s there to help Mei grow the way her mom refuses to let her grow. She actively encourages her interests, lets her know that these changes in her life aren’t so bad, and reminds her that she’ll always love her and be proud of her no matter what. Miriam’s there to bring change and personal growth into a positive light. We all need someone like her in our lives.
Something I’ve always noticed is that Miriam is always so supportive of Mei. The reason she was so hurt compared to the other two was because she felt so betrayed Mei wouldn’t stick up for her after all she did. Of course, I understand Mei’s POV as well overall, their backgrounds are very different. Miriam’s parents seem a lot more relaxed and laid back compared to Mei’s mom. I just always loved how kindly Miriam treated Mei and how she was always so concerned and caring to her.
@@netherfreakultima4498 I don’t think I could only blame Ming ONLY BECAUSE Mei had the chance to finally stand her ground and tell her she played a part in it, but she didn’t. Of course I understand both sides but Mei rlly should’ve said something 😭
She's my favorite too. Abby is so chaotic, it could be tiring to keep up with her all the times. Priya is so quiet, it would be awkward just being with her alone all the times. Miriam is the most easy to hang out with.
i LOVE miriam's character design. the tomboy-ish look, while still being as playful and as much of a 4-townie as all her friends. it's true to how so many teen girls irl actually are!
@@MallowCake7741 Sort of an old-fashioned term for a young girl who dresses or acts in a "boyish" way. The inverse of very girly. Though most girls aren't just one or the other, they're very often a blend of both
Miriam is the girl who looks like a rebel and that every parent hates for thinking she is one but in reality is the most sweetest most wholesome friend in the group.
One thing that stuck out to me was how only her parents said she was allowed to go to the concert, under the condition that she had to buy the ticket herself. With parenting style being such a big theme in this movie, it was nice to see (at least what I consider) a very reasonable compromise from very reasonable parents. It’s such a subtle message that shows being a controlling or strict parent isn’t the only way to your child’s success. Even though they are just characters, I would like to believe that her parents are willing to make compromises with her, and as a result help her build empathy and responsibility. Would explain why she is the most supportive one out of the friend group!
@@AtesSu2006. I said she is written as the most supportive, but not necessarily the best! (my favorite character is abby ofc) However, I do think it is interesting that the other 3 asian characters in the friend group all have strict parents. It is a common stereotype that asian parents are very strict, with Mei's mother's "tiger mom" trope being the basis of the movie. Maybe the writers deliberately chose the white characters parents to be more understanding of her children's interest? Would this be considered racist stereotyping? who knows, just speculating
This girl is truly everything that is right in this world. She’s an excellent friend, always understanding of Mei’s feelings and validating her, not pushing her to do anything she doesn’t want to. Just truly caring about her. I love Miriam so much, I hope we can all be Miriam in this world 😭
I had a friend that was JUST like her when i was in middle school. She had pale skin, caramel hair, green eyes, bad teeth & a little tomboyish. She always stands out for you & was a good friend.
I felt v sad when my friend told me her parents didn't like me either The reason was I was apparently being "too tomboyish" and told her to avoid me It was painful
I love the scene where Miriam sighs after when mei men's tomogatchi beeps and gives it back to her because it shows she can't really stay mad at mei forever and that despite their downs they always stick by each other.
Not that it's ever explicitly stated in the movie, but I adored seeing a little Jewish representation in Turing Red. (The names, "Miriam", "Wexler", "Rosen", and "Mendelsohn" all indicate Ashkenazi Jewish descent). I related to Miriam so hard and I feel like they really did little Jewish girls justice with this character design. I'm thankful to see Jewish characters being normalized in animation, instead of seeing odd, stereotypical caricatures of Jews. This made me so happy! I do low-key wish she was voiced by a jewish actress, but this is still an improvement for Jewish representation in animated media. As a Jewish girl who's really tired of seeing animated characters being labeled "Jewish" as an after thought (for the sake of half-assed diversity) without any real research regarding what Jewish people might be like, Miriam was really meaningful to me.
Yes this this this. She reminds me of myself! I was 13 in 2002! And all these characters remind me of my childhood friends. (Me being “the Jewish friend” XD)
I'm glad you're happy about this representation (not jewish but I can understand your feeling). Miriam is really a good girl and if you're not aware about these aspects about the Jewish culture (like myself even if I've kinda thought about the fact Miriam could be Jewish bc of her name) you would have no idea she's a Jewish girl ^^ ! That's cool for you 😎✌🏾
Why do Jewish people need representation. Americans already give y’all attention. The people who need attention are Muslims and Arabs. We Barely get Any representation. I’m not trying to be mean or rude in any way I’m just trying to make a point.
Same!! I think this might be the first time I've seen a clearly Jewish character in a Pixar movie! Would be really nice to see some Orthodox representation in the future...
there's something so pure about how kind and supportive Miriam is to Mei, it's this kind of bond that feels so genuine that I was completely convinced about them being the reason Mei's panda disappears. Like, I haven't read anyone say something about how quickly she figured out her friends were her solution, nothing about how that seemed too convenient. Because THIS ONE SCENE 3:15 was more than enough to prove they were her happy place. It's the fact Miriam was the one who knew instantly how to make Mei feel better and somehow be the reason Mei enjoys her panda than the rest of her family does just goes to show how lucky Mei is to have someone like Miriam in her life. i locve her sso mucch u dont tunderstanddddskdjai
a detail i like is the influence of asian parenting. miriam is the white friend of the group so there's a cultural difference. priya and abby didn't blame mei for flaking out on them because they have asian parents and get why she'd do that, though it left miriam confused on how to handle that. like offscreen i know they'd explained that to her, still miriam now really knew ming didn't like her. (likely, because she's not asian) edit: she didn't make much comment on abby and priya but more clearly had a distaste for miriam, mei's closest buddy
additionally in that first scene with her red panda, abby and priya knew the animal she'd transformed into cuz its an asian animal xD meanwhile miriam is confused but more focused on mei's emotions. its a cute detail. she cares so much even with the slight cultural barrier
tho, i also think it might be bc of miriams bond w mei. they seemed the closer pair out of all of them, and after all they’d been thru, she felt personally betrayed. it always feels like that when a best friend betrays u. also, it seems miriam is the sort of mum of the group, she probs helped mei when she was down bc of her strict mum (meaning she might have know abt it not ofc not in a first hand way) so ykkk i feel like i’m explaining this rly badly but yh. OH YH, also the thing with robaire junior (is that it’s name??) showed that mir was rly missing mei. she wasn’t mad, just rly hurt
@@sofiiaaaaaa eh, i can see that. the takeaway from my thing is that priya & abby know how asian moms are so that separates them from miriam. mei & mir are definitely the closest of the 4, now 5
I don't think it's cuz she's not asian, I mean after all, Mei's mother grew up in the same place as Mei and probably also had multiracial friends, so I can't imagine her being racist in that way. I think it's because Mir is kinda the most 'rebellious' (i use this term lightly since they don't actually do anything bad), and because of her upbringing with her more chill parents, she probably doesn't know how to act around Mei's mother like the other girls do. Also, Red pandas are not native to indian culture, so idk why Priya would know, not all asian cultures are the same.
Miriam is such a underrated character ;-;! I love their dynamic and Miriam balances it out! She's that one friend who keep others in check just in case they go too wild😂
Miriam indead represents that ome friend we all need, the supportive and caring one who gives advice and helps her friends stand back to their feet. She will give all her energy and love to the ones who she cares and she will try to protect them Miriam felt betrayed bc for her it was like that all the work, all her energy, all her love towards Mei had gone down the drain. Than she tried so hard to be helpful and supportive bc this is what her character is, and she felt that she isnt even good at that. Thats why when Mei got to the concert she didnt forgive her immediately. This crap hurts... No wonder some people have serious trust issues
She reminds me of a friend I had in middle school named Sabrina. She was a military kid so she moved around a lot. Unfortunately I couldn't keep in contact with her, but she was a great friend.
this movie is so cute, but yet I wish I had friends like them back then, going through puberty and feeling lonely was rough, a friend like Miriam would've been nice
Miriam is such a good friend! She understands everything mei thinks. She will always help her friends and always sees the good in people (With a great voice)
When Mei Mei didn’t stand up for herself, Oriya and Abby looked mad but Miriam was just sad And the way Miriam turned around and looked at Mei that way on the roof IstgMiriam likes her
@@Luna-dh6yt lol my name is mariam and that's an arabic name too, but not because her name is arabic or muslim means she is arabic and muslim..her name is sure close enough but we can't assume now can we
OMG MIRIAM IS MY FAVORITE TURNING RED CHARACTER AND THIS IS WHY- ⚫️I relate to her 🍄🌝 ⚫️We have similar personalities 🌵🌞 ⚫️Mei looks like one of my friends so Miriam and Mei are like cartoon versions of us 😇😇 ⚫️Miriam looks like me irl 💜😊 ⚫️She’s just overall a good character 🤪😚 ⚫️she is very supportive and wholesome 🤧🤠 ⚫️and LASTLY She is probably one of 1st Tomboy-ish/sporty Disney Pixar characters😎🛹
@@YourMom-le1sp for a second i thought your pfp was a picture of Gumball in the episode the Slap while showing his butt- but I’m glad it’s something else. I’m also confused
She’s that Tomboy that is still girly enough not to care what anyone else thinks...also, the protective one of the group. Also, I just noticed that it didn’t faze Miriam that while spying in the window at the store, Abby was non-schalantly using her back as a step stool 😅
As someone who is a North American Jewish female, I can tell you that I looked exactly like that in middle school. The braces, the curly hair in two braids, even the tomboyish personality. My fashion sense wasn’t the same because I was 13 in 2018, but I imagine I would have dressed similarly if that was the fashion sense.
Well technically in my AU Miriam had two step siblings Molly and Thomas but there's a catch her eye is half blind on the left and one of her siblings died without thin air which is Molly even though she's still 7 years old get it now
Those tropes always confused me, like, if you truly liked someone why would you go out of your way to mortify, embarrass and bully them? Even if you don’t know how to deal with your crush on said person, or don’t want to admit it, wouldn’t you have at least some respect for that person?
@@Sparklettatruth is- it actually happens just like that. Lol. Back in my middleschool years I had a bully that was just like tyler- made fun of me endlessly but would switch personalities when no one was around or when he wanted something from me, there was no reading him and I always wondered why tf is this kid always picking on me?? Then in highschool one of his former friends (who later became one of my good friends) would tell me that my bully had a crush on me the entire time. Tropes have to come from somewhere right? Lol
@@Sparkletta because you don’t have to worry about your object of affection leaving you if they’re too afraid to reject you in the first place. Subconscious power play, an instinctive yet underhanded and abusive way to avoid being ostracized.
Just imagine if we got a spin-off movie just on Miriam. It would be called something like: *_"Living Life Green."_* or something. I don't know, I tried! By the way, if you keep seeing me on anything Turning Red related, it's because this movie is a die-hard favorite of mine.
oh man literally just a week ago when I watched this for the first time, I looked at the views and silently ranted to myself on why this wasn't getting more views bc I noticed that Miriam was (and maybe still is) very underrated and often overshadowed in terms of popularity on social media favorites by Priya and Abby despite being the deuteragonist (or at least from how I see it) for the movie. Now seeing this going to 999k+ views makes me happy:"))
