Welcome to the longest plant video on the internet clocked at almost 4 hours long, in the form of an all plants plant tour as the title suggest. As I am moving all my collection into my new home and nursery, this is a final goodbye to the old home and a chance for you to meet all my plants. If you are a follower of the channel, you know to expect tons of diversity in this video as well as care tips. However, keep in mind that my collection is not all perfect, and in fact some of the plants are propagated so brutally that you may only see cuttings or parent plants that are trying to rehab. But take this experience as a way to see how resilient plants are and how easy it is to multiply them so long as you have done your research. Also see if you can finish this video all the way to the very end. I recommend pausing it and continuing it in sections so as not to tire your eyes :)

You are right about watering Snake plants everyday, I live in Nigeria where they are native to, it’s currently the rainy season here and the ones growing outdoors get rained on almost on a daily bases. They love the rain and grow faster with regular watering. They will go dormant if you underwater. The key is to ensure that the soil dries out fast and is airy
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 года назад
Also they seem to get used to the conditions or watering habits they were propagated in 😀

You can use essential oils for mosquitoes (citronella + cloves, equal parts). You apply it on the skin, near veins, so it is absorbed). Apply essential oils 15 to 20 minutes before getting out. The effect will last 2 to 3 hours. I am in the N empisphere, but the effect is the same. Good luck. I am spending a lot of time outside because of this, otherwise it would not be possible, as the mosquitoes are killing me.

You need to keep variegated plants in bright light because they don’t have enough green which holds the chlorophyll to absorb light, and will therefore eventually turn all green in low light to photosynthesis and take in nutrients.

I think the correlation between low light and high light affecting the variegation. I think it’s more about heat and people who say low light = more variegation I suspect they are growing under artificial light and more light = more heat generated which will result in more chlorophyll being produced during the development of the leaf. Any plant with less geen will need more light to make up for the missing surface area of the plant that can photosynthesize.

27:05 try to put this homalomena in tray full of water, and always keep it that way. I think this is a plant that grow near body of water (river, waterfall, etc). I know it can be scary to make the soil sit in water and wet at all times, but you can always put some layer of stone or pebbles in the bottom of the pot so the water doesn't soak into the soil immediately. I use leca for that. And I put mine in terrarium set up with tray full of water at all times. And it's thriving. Put a new leaf every 2 weeks or so.

Sean, have you ever gotten any fruit off your Monstera deliciosa? I saw one Monstera deliciosa in the Port of Los Angeles bloom and set fruits once. That Monstera was one or two plants in a 10 ft. x 12 ft. x 8 ft. (3.3 m. x 4 m. x 2.7 m.) open space by a stairwell at Los Angeles Harbor College Wilmington, California. The fruit is supposed to be really delicious! You eat it when it what look like small rectangular tiles literally are falling off where the spathe used to be. 43:39 Right now, plant collectors are into plants that are variegated along the midrib of each leaf or on the border of each leaf but not variegated in a swirl UNLESS it is something like a begonia leaf where the swirl is geometrical and based on Fibonacci's numbers. (Fibonacci numbers do appear in nature often enough to prove they reflect some naturally occurring patterns. You can commonly spot these by studying the manner in which various plants grow. Many seed heads, pinecones, fruits, fern fiddle heads and vegetables display spiral patterns that when counted express Fibonacci numbers.) Secondary characteristics such as a velvety texture, unusual color or pigments from high light conditions also figure into a collected plants, especially tropicals, allure to the plant collector. Personally, I like really "out there" plants that have unusual adaptations or mutations, trailing plants and a lot of color. I love the lush tropical look having grown up in Los Angeles. I have also lived in USDA Zone 3 which is subarctic. You would hate, hate, hate that climate and the lack of color in the landscape there. Blizzards six months out of the year! I am getting back into gardening and have a huge yard with chunks of sandstone, clay soil and drains well because my town is sitting on top of a huge aquifer. It's a challenge! 46:48 The Callisia repens is closely related to Tahitian bridal veil. I have found that these types of plants demand high humidity. Spray them daily with distilled water and trim them frequently. Otherwise, They thin out in the center and start looking ratty. Boise, Idaho has very low humidity and the way i saved a school's Tahitian bridal veil plant was giving them a sprayer full of distilled water and demonstrating how to lightly spray it with water once a day. As long as the plant is not in full sunshine a little sprayed water won't hurt it. Your mini dachshund's variegation is very unusual with the irregular spotting along the torso. I am in love with the lemon lime (chartreuse) selected plants you have bred. Sean, have you tried growing for your succulent corner 1:49 Aloe cameronii? The leaves are red. Jade plant (Crassula ovata) also comes in several variegated forms. The variegated jade plant where the edges of the leaves are colored a warm rosy red would really jazz up your display. 1:50 Hosta Plantagenet doesn't like hot sun, needs moist soil and is mainly famous for leaf forms and leaf color ranging from dark bluish-green to variegated with white, cream or yellow. My favorite hosta for the double white bloom is 'Aphrodite'. Most hosta blooms are not that pretty and are pale purple or white. Young hosta shoots and leaves are edible.
