I had a giant banyan tree in my backyard growing up that I spent my alot of time in. I'm so excited to know I can keep a little piece of my childhood in my house now.
I have a Rojo Congo Philodendron, but not on purpose, I got a Birken philodendron as a gift, and after two years I had to divide it, as it was outgrowing it’s pot, so I separated the roots, and there were four separate plants, I repotted them in all their own new pots, one died, I think it was just too small, the other three did very well and one of those reverted to back to Rojo Congo and started to flourish, growing so beautifully I can hardly believe it and I love it! Thank you for your info about this plant!
I have most of these plants. The two that I'm most excited about and glad that you covered are plumeria. I visited Hawaii last January and bought 2 sticks. I planted them this spring and already have some nice leaves. I can't wait for blooms next year. 😊
Lovely...I really enjoyed your show...u am from Jamaica....I do plants..I love them ...enjoy caring for them...bless u...waiting for you next show show..❤
The umbrella tree. We call it the dwarf umbrella as there is a bigger type that has massive root system and can grow so big it can provide a canopy for an entire ground level house and shade an entire house block of land if left to grow for over 20 years or more. But the roots can be a problem. The normal big umbrella plant can make a very nice house plant too, but the dwarf umbrella is the delightful house plant that grows indoors or outdoors, that I like. It can be grown by a cutting just by laying a branch of it down along the ground and it will grow roots into the soil. One branch, after taking root in the soil all the way along, can be cut at intervals to provide you with several new umbrella plants, then put them in a new pot to grow tall. Usually around 3ft or 4 ft. Many years ago I bought one umbrella plant and have kept replanting new ones from the older ones, so to keep a few in case anything happens to them, but they are so tough and easy to keep happy.
As someone who is definitely more of a outdoor gardener than indoor (did you know that snake plants bloom if you neglect them enough 😅). I really enjoyed all the pictures and helpful info! Thank you! Looking forward to the cat friendly episode
Not a new plant mom but acquiring more and still learning about their needs. Love your content. I have many of the ones you mentioned but you’re teaching me some things like I’ve probably been watering my ZZ plant way too much 😅 and I didn’t know the Ficus Altissima had variegated leaves because mine sure doesn’t. I just got a new leaf to pop out after 2 months so I’m just happy it’s alive and hasn’t dropped any leaves like my Ficus umbellata or turned brown like my Ficus Tineke. Can’t wait to go back and look at some more of your videos.
I have a plant I started from very small. I haven't been able to identify it until today. I think I found it on Wikipedia. I think it's a Ficus Altissima but mine has dark green glossy leaves . None of them are variegated. Mine seems to be growing very well. It puts out a pair of new leaves at almost every junction. Recently I've noticed some brown crispy spots on a couple of leaves. I've been trying to find out for sure if I have identified it correctly but I never see one exactly like mine on any of the UTube videos. The description in Wikipedia says this Ficus Altissima requires 50% humidity. They said it could be placed near a container of pebbles & water. Maybe your Ficus Tineke needs humidity. (I'm just guessing)
My grandpa used to overwinter his geraniums similar to what you suggested for the Plumeria. He would remove all the soil and use grandma's stockings to hang them from the rafters in their cold basement (like a cellar). They grew huge and lush every year.
Happy Sunday to you. Watching from Barbados and this is the first video of yours i’m seeing, the list reminded me of so many of these plants I had in my home and most of them died, all that’s left is the pathos and Swiss cheese, after watching this I need to get more plants in my home. Thanks for this very informative video.
Angel wing begonia is super easy to care for and has beautiful burgundy and dark green leaves with silver spots as well as cascades of pink and white flowers. It propagates in water or soil with ease. It will grow almost anywhere (including in planters outdoors in summer!). It doesn't seem to get any pests. It is drought tolerant (great for people that travel a bunch) and loves to completely dry out before getting a good soaking. It's the perfect starter plant!
I have a purple zyzy from Tractor Supply. It is wonderful! I’ve gardened outside-veg and everything else, but have never been good at pleasing houseplants. Due to position my home is naturally dark. My purple zyzy is in very low light and happy-prob two yrs old and thriving!
I love Pony Tail palms and thr number one death thing I see in them is when people plant them in soil. Save yourself and your palm and buy yourself a bag of the gravel like Bonsai mix at Home Depot to plant this guy in. Quick draining and life saving. Only water your pony tail palm when one of the lower branches turns yellow that means its ready for water. Yellowing of the leaves on the top of that palm is a sign of over watering. On average I only water my pony tail palm once every two months and I only water it when again I see one yellow leaf on the bottom base of the plant. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴
Thanks for the advice. I would have definitely overwatered mine. No wonder it was practically falling out of the pot due to drought when I got it. Mine is THRIVING, but I know how quickly that can turn when root rot sets in.
I have 2 pony tail palms one of them is turning yellow am sure my Gardner puts more water. I will be watering as you have explained thank you for the advice
Wonderful program. I have a friendly argument going with a neighbor. She tells me you should put your plants in a large container from the start so roots will have room. I tell her you should change size of container as needed without the necessity of large amts of soil from the start so that nutrients can better reach roots. Can you help us out.
Thank you so much. Yes you are correct. If you immediately transplant a small plant into a huge pot the roots will take time to grow into all that extra soil and until it does the soil will never dry out. It will likely stay too wet and damage the roots.
I almost have all the plants you have mansion. I appreciate the care you instructed to give to pensil cactus.I was watering once a week now I know why getting to bushy . Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks mate, that was a nice list. I grow a lot of em already but you presented a bunch of which I just decided to keep an eye on! I like! 😍 Btw do you agree that planning holidays isn't the easiest when growing plants? Feels like giving your kids to a babysitter for weeks and hoping they will survive your ego-trip of a vacay 🙈🫢😂
@@sani_hen thanks for watching!! Haha yes I definitely agree with you there. Just went out of town and when I got back a lot of my plants were looking rough lol
@@HouseplantHelp maybe we both should consider switching our houses when planing future days off / vacations. Then eachothers mutual plant supply would be ensured in any case! 😂😂😂 🤙🏻
I would like to add the Jade plant (Crassula ovata) to this list. I find it almost impossible to kill and mine survived months and even years of neglect with very infrequent watering, no fertilization and no pruning. 😂 At my home they grow under all light and temperature conditions. And if you have a plant that looks really badly grown you can still propagate them very easily. Love my Jade plants 😍
Thank you for this video. I love plants, but my thumbs are VERY far from green. I received a money tree as a retirement gift. I want to keep it alive so your information helps a lot.
Thanks for this interesting video! I have plumerias, sown by myself 8 years ago, but they still won't bloom. I give them food, but not (yet) with a lot of phosphorus in it. But I'm going to try that now and plant them in the garden... 😊 greetz, E.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏼 💚 I have most of them already and they are pretty easy yes, only the plumeria and string of turtles I always was scared to buy cause taught they where difficult plants and I struggle with my health so that has always been something I try to keep regard lol but now I’m gonna buy one! Hope you are right! 😅😂😊 the plumeria is quite expensive here so I’ll keep my fingers crossed tho 😅🍀💚 I have many philodendrons and I find them all quite easy, even Alocasias are easy …once you know how to tho 😅 😂🍀💚🙏🏼💚
I’m new to your channel but subscribed! 🍀🙏🏼💚 I would love to talk to you about those plants! I must say I agree with so much you say on the videos I’ve seen and only Calathea I struggle with but from your videos I think I still give them to much light ;) I have many many plants for so many years and maybe five of them I’ve killed 😱🤬😭😅 but calathea are two plants I count but I did not really loose/kill them cause they did come back when I put them away cause think I’ve killed them but then one day they are there again only from staying in very dark place and stay completely dry cause think they where broken and for throwing away so i hope other people did not throw them away to soon either 🙏🏼🍀💚 thank you so much for your videos, i really like them and I’m gonna go true all of them ;) please keep them coming, they are great! Very informative and accurate! 🙏🏼🍀💚 lots of love for everyone, let’s keep them plants alive🍀 💚🙏🏼💚
I have many of these plants and they grow beautifully. I am so sad because I have killed so many string of turtles. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong. I have some very hard to grow house plants and I do well with those but for some reason, I cannot grow a string of turtles.😢
Thank you for mentioning the toxicity of some plants. You're the only one I've seen do that. Unfortunately, it's so many of the most popular ones. I brought home a Croton the other day and discovered some frightening facts about it while looking up its care.
Could you do a video on how to kill those pesky little soil gnats that have taken over every house plant I have, not to mention flying up your nose🤣 thanks. Love all your videos.
Thanks for the video. Awesome information packed in here 👏. I just found out I have an Audrey Ficus growing in my front yard. I had no idea what it was or where it came from.
Can the plumeria be used to do a bonsai? And, I would like to see you begin to plan today for taking a trip soon to Hawaii. Hire a plant sitter to look after your rare plants and anything else that dies while you’re gone just say adios to them.
I kill R. tetrasperma. I keep rescuing it by taking cuttings and sticking it in a pot outside. Then when I bring it inside I do the same and take a cutting to plant outside again. Inside I place it near a window and it always dies. The light from the window isn't too harsh and my other plants like pothos all do fine there. I'm pretty good at growing plants including carnivorous plants inside, so having issue with R. tetrasperma is ridiculous. So I would not say they are easy to look after at all.
Pothos can grow in water?! Inhave a marble queen that is getting brown spots. The google says it is root rot. I don’t think I over water…. Trying hyrdofen peroxide. Wish me luck and any advice is appreciated.
Thank you I search you here.now I take care of my plants but here in Texas too much hot my plants burn the leaves even they’re beside the walls outside the house 😢
Thanks So Much. Can u help me with my Rojo Congo. She is losing her leaves. I think I water it too much. Should I repot n put them back in the same pot???? I wish I could send a picture. N she is so beautiful. The first one for me. I’m going to get another one. Help!!!!
I’ve never even seen a String of Turtles plant! I’m obsessed with houseplants and absolutely love this one. I’ve lived in California, Nevada and Washington in the last 10 years but have never seen this plant. Where can I get one?
I had never heard of these either until recently. When they are neglected not so pretty, but given some attention, not much, they grow so well and look gorgeous. They come in various types. String of dolphins, string of pearls, turtles. Might be more. Australia has them in the big hardware stores - nursery section, and they are positioned outdoors but sheltered against the wall with other succulents.
Hi! First time watching you as a few years ago, I swore off houseplants all together. I threw them all out in one fell swoop when I realized that they had all contracted these little disgusting bugs. I mean, I didn't have as many plants as you, but the ones I had, I really loved them and had cared for them for a long time. Now I am an outdoor gardener, but after watching your video, I think I'm going to try a swiss cheese plant or string of turtles. Any thoughts on how to be pro active against bugs? I hate that I'm so squeamish about bugs, it's so unpredictably predictable of me, but no one is perfectly imperfect. Make sense? I guess bugs are the yang to plants...I just...ew.
Hi I asked to grow the Purple Japanese elm tree. Soooooo my husband to buy a tree. Well he came home with the ONE BRANCH of that tree?.????? We are eighty years old and won’t get to see these two separately planted “trees”. I’m so upset. What should I do . He planted into the earth soil. Should I replant in a home planter instead??????HELP!!!!!
Plumerias are NOT super easy! I’m from Hawaii and moved to the mainland where I have several plumerias who have all died eventually. Even after being alive for a couple of yrs. I would like to try again and my family will bring me more plumeria starters but it’s not as easy as orchids or any of the other plants you listed. I have 100+ plants in my indoor jungle. I tried to also grow gardenias which have stronger scent and sadly they also eventually died. I would try my next plumeria the ground, of course it will thrive in the summer but likely will die again in the winter indoors.
It definitely depends on where you live. I live in central Texas and my plumerias do quite well in a pot. I do bring them inside in the winter after they’ve dropped their leaves from mild cold weather. They sit in a dark cool spot in my house and get no water or direct sunshine throughout the winter months and always come back. I’ve seen some plumerias grown here in this fashion that are over 6 feet tall and probably 15+ years old. I wish you the best of luck with your future plumerias and hope you get to smell their flowers at your place
I have many, many orchids in N E Florida, after they bloom I put them out under the trees and forget about them, they come back strong next year. I have them in all different kinds of pots; the wooden box I like the least. The ceramic-made for orchid pots are okay but pricey. As long as it’s got room for the roots to grow out of the pot it’s happy. Terra cotta is good as it doesn’t hold water. These are made with holes too. Then there’s clear plastic orchid pots. It’s an air plant, like bromeliads, so it doesn’t like heavy (or any) soil. I use bark for the base. I’ve also just attached some in the crook of trees. A lot of light isn’t necessary as they grow naturally on trees under the canopy of rain forests. Also, don’t cut the blooming stem unless it’s brown/dead. Many people cut the stem after blooms are gone but that stem will produce flowers next year! Hope this helps.
Add lpts of water containers of water, your air, is, dry, dry dry, air, soil dries, faster, I use kittie Litter Boxes, from, Dollar Tr-e, lots of water, add to all rooms ! It also traps dust.
You’re right it is a lot of work to move it around if you want to put it outside for the summer, but I do still think of it as an easy plant to keep alive in general. If you just keep it inside in a bright spot it’s pretty low maintenance.
I got a money tree. Died!!! I got one for my daughter it died. I was in a room with bright indirect sunlight and a humid environment. The trunks just disintegrated.
I basically just write down names of plants that he mentioned and do my own research on plants before I buy them and also ask other people about their unique experiences with the plant. When he speaks about any plants.......it's his perspective on that particular plant and experience. What's easy for him may be difficult for another. Do your own research on medicinal ......goggle is your friend :))
