I remember having an Amazon tablet years ago that was small but had a high resolution screen and excellent speakers and it felt good to hold. Then they changed and made this kind of stuff.
That's a real shame. Maybe rather than cutting corners to save a few pennies here and there they should just focus on making a great 7" tablet. I whole heartedly think the market would support it.
But who would buy a 7" tablet in 2022 if it isn't cheap? You probably have your phone with a smaller but better screen and better CPU. And if you really use a tablet then you need and have something bigger (10"+) with a much better screen, CPU and memory. It's a convenient size for reading, but there are ebook readers that let you read better and for much longer. One can ask why this device exists at all, it will probably be bought mainly by people who want it as a third or fourth device and maybe even expect that it will break (by bad usage) but then it is not a big loss.
To think that the fire hd 7 from 2014 had better specs than this and at times would go on sale for about the same price it just sad considering it has been 8 years and no improvement has really been made to the budget amazon tablets.
I traded in my 2019 Fire 7 for a Fire 10, and between the $20 gift card, the discount on the new 10, and the prime day deal they both stacked with, it cost me less than this does.
This is misleading. 90% of people didn't have the opportunity to apply the trade in discount during the prime day pricing considering it a. Required them to get and evaluate your trade and b. Only applied to a FUTURE fire hd purchase. There were exceptions but these were the official terms and is what most experienced. And the gift card couldn't be applied to the initial purchase either, so no. Bought the fire hd 10 and then the 10 plus, thinking it would be better at playing RU-vid while browsing the net due to the extra gb of Ram. Not so much. The audio and display were more than passable for the price point but the performance was lacking. Just rebought an s5e on eBay in good condition for $150 shipped. It's the best combination of attributes for casual internet and media playback in this size category, bar none. A perfect compliment to the s8 ultra. It shares a lot with that tablet (incredible display, audio and thinness/weight with performance that is good enough for what most will be using it for)
@@ethancarey9670 I should have been more clear. It offered me an *HD 10* just to be clear on the model. For $75 as a lightning deal, minus an extra $30 at checkout because of the trade-in. And it gave me a $20 gift card as soon as I processed the order. As I used the Payment plan option it gave me, the $20 just went into covering two of the remaning payments. I don't know if it was *supposed* to let me do that, but hey, it did! I didn't know there was anything weird about it. Total was $48 for the tablet, minus $20 because two of those payments got covered by the gift card. So I got a Fire HD 10 for about $28 plus an old Fire 7 I bought from Amazon as a Refurb for like $34 at the time. Hence my comment above. I didn't know getting the trade-in discount *during Prime* was unusual. Which does explain why it felt like a helluva deal. I sideloaded Google Play on the HD 10 and it runs RU-vid fine with the Google-native app. I'll admit I haven't done much Multitasking with the HD 10 however. If I want to Multi-task on the go, I have a Galaxy Tab Pro I bought used a few years ago for that, complete with it's S-pen. It's x64 and runs windows. $150 isn't bad if you must use a tablet as a laptop, but I have a laptop. This thing is going to be used for Game Glass mostly, an app the 7 couldn't run, but the HD 10 does fine.
(like, seriously, my payment due on shipping for the tablet was $12, the screen protectors where $13. You noting basically nobody could apply those offers at sale makes more and more sense when I look back at it because uh... yeah these are normally $150 with ads. it definitely didn't charge more than it said it would, lol.)
Likewise I traded a 2018 Fire 8 for this and they paid me $25 cash plus another $20 off the new one. I keep my gear mint condition so passing the trade in eval was not an issue. My end cost for this new 7 was like $30. But I still don't like what I got. It is just too quiet. Tried to cook dinner with it as a RU-vid player and could not hear it next to the stove. Any noise in the room and it is impossible to hear it. Ended up being easier to hear my FireTv playing the same content two rooms away. It may work fine with a Bluetooth speaker -I didn't test it. But my feeling is a device should do basic stuff out of the box. It I have to use an external speaker to hear it at all, that's a problem.
There’s a specific demographic for this tablet: people who are poor and know nothing about tech, who have known nothing other than the rock bottom price, stuttering 20fps tablets with an hour and a half of battery life. This will be the cheapest tablet with a recognizable brand name, for people who are looking for the cheapest tablet from a recognizable brand. It’s crap because it’s specifically for people who don’t know any better.
I mean it's a good deal for $59, but 2gb of ram in 2022 is not enough. At least 3gb is needed for the Android Run Time to function smoothly, they should've made it $5 - $10 more and added another 1-2gb of ram.
Same with 16-32gb of internal storage. Same as their Fire TV devices, like they're just being stingy with storage. I'd definitely pay more for a 3gb RAM/64-128gb version.
I think the most relevant criteria on one of these things at this point is how the battery holds up for the price. Any LCD screen is worthless compared to e-ink screens for reading books, and while the screen resolution is not great for modern websites and badly coded Android apps, I'm impressed that they can run any games at all at the price.
I got one just the other day I love it.. it's going to sit on the entertainment system and play Spotify for the rest of its life! And for the price I'm very happy with it!
I turned on my Fire 7 2019 for the first time in a year. The Asus Nexus tablet worked better. I wish we had thin, light quality 7" tablets for reading and occasional gaming.
It's (almost) perfect for manga reading purpose, but with most smartphone nowadays having 6" ++ screen it feels almost useless to buy a 7" tablet unfortunately
Amazon doesn’t have an official RU-vid app. That’s just a launcher for RU-vid on the silk browser. With the official app you should be able to get 720@60hz
The fire 7 was my first tablet. I loved it. It was also what I used to read my first ebook. Then I graduated to the Fire 10. I loved the hd display. I didn’t have it long when it was stolen from me. So I got the fire hd 8. Which I still use. I just wish they were thinner and lighter. Like my iPad mini.
The way kids is today .. they might be Dissapointed at the load time too.. but for the simple emulators with a attached controller and books... this will be good ..also let's wait for it to go on sale too.. much appreciated the breakdown of this
I hope at least it will be a great Black Friday deal! Everyone here seems to be bashing the new Fire 7" because of the low specs, but Amazon is consistent with their strategy - they transfer the internals (SoC) of the current Fire 8" to the new 7 (which gets double the RAM than the previous generation), before releasing the new 8. Ironically, the Fire 8 was a better deal on Prime Day (better screen and more RAM), as the new 7 was not discounted.
I have one for 6-7 years as ebook reader . It is working just fine but when you are trying to use internet it is starting to lag because of ads by Amazon .
Meh. Children are too spoiled these days. Long load times are fine. We had long load times as kids and we were fine with it. So don't see the problem with that.
Tbh besides gaming this tablet on sale seems perfect to use as a smart home hub/digital photo album that's always on and can be picked up to do some reading/watching
The weird thing about this is that they released it just before the prime day sales, but did not discount it. Instead they discounted the 2019 model. They'll probably knock it down to $30 to $35 for sales after they get rid of the old inventory.
I think about the old android tablets. Very shortly they were obsolete. The fire tablet is welcomed into my home because i can carry books instead of them taking up space on my shelf. Nothing is absolute, and if you are grateful for what your money can buy; this object is worth it. Thank you.
I hate this argument that because it’s the 2020s, every piece of technology must have 10 GB of RAM and a 5 GHz 12 core processor. No matter the price range. This tablet is designed to be incredibly cheap durable, and user-friendly. Most of the sales of this tablet come from companies, schools, and businesses using it for a different administrative reasons. If you need a cheap tablet to do basic web activities, document authorizations, inventory. This is perfect. You’re super cringe bro.
It goes on the internet, it plays videos from all the major streaming services and can do conference calls and play music. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. If you want performance, pick up an iPad or new Samsung tablet or the $599 Google Pixel Tab. This is $60 for a reason.
Does anyone who owns/owned this tablet or the previous $39 version could tell me if it can store and play music without hiccups? I want to buy one to my mom and rip all her CDs to the local storage (maybe 10-12Gb, considering the CD audio quality). I'll try to make her life easier of searching around 300+ CDs and 200+ vinyls. I can buy a SD card for storage, just wanted to know if navigation is still smooth after some time of use, cause any minor inconvenient could cause her to abandon this new crazy and complicated tech!
A better way to learn patience would be to show that you can get a much better product for a little bit more money if you save up your money! These are just loss leaders to get people sucked into the Amazon ecosystem.
I don't know what they were thinking with this with the Roblox branding on the back of the box, you really need a tablet with at least 4GB RAM and 8 cores if you want to play roblox at a good framerate with most games, and even some devices that have these specs still struggle in more demanding games like Royale High. I recommend the Tab S6 lite or the Tab A7 as the bare minimum for playing Roblox.
Amazon has been putting out anemic ram-starved tablets that are borderline e-waste since day 1. I'm always shocked to see this channel promote them in any way. Usable? ish. Wise investment? Maybe for parts.
@@tdata545 I can't speak for Amazon, but their actions speak pretty loudly. Customers were still happily using the 8.9HDX 4 years later. It was highly reviewed, and they stopped making it, instead selling cheap tablets that are obsolete the year before they're manufactured. High turnover seems to be the goal more so than happy customers. There's law against planned obsolescence but so far no consumer class action against Amazon for making this junk.
Your not the intended target. For parents this is the best tablet for kids. It's cheap and dose exactly what they use it for. And has brilliant parental controls on.

I have an fire 7 (12 Gen) tablet and it's quick than I thought.I have an Nokia 1.4 and it's a 2022 model and my Amazon tablet still beat loading in Roblox and other apps
Come on Amazon, get with the times. You're still building devices with 2015 specs in the middle of 2022. The hardware all seems to be good, except for the storage, RAM, the cameras, and these bezels.
Still, Amazon seems to be more concerned with making a device that just gets you into the ecosystem on The hopes that you'd buy more Amazon products like prime. At this price point I'd say the device is still perfect for kids or media

Did amazon deliberately updated the previous 7' tablet (2019) to make it very slow and crashed alot so that we will need to buy new tablet every time they released a new one? My 7' tablet used to be very fast and very snappy, but once it was updated to the latest update, it became frustratingly slow and freezes alot.
This is why you jail break them into Google play and have nothing to do with Amazon and it's updates that break your stuff on a monthly basis. Went threw it 1 to many times. The hell with Amazon. N I love em. But damn these updates
I get the bezel might be “intentional” in re to it being an e-reader (holding it etc) but damn…this is some 2010 looking device. This was pretty much made in a spreadsheet based on data. It’ll turn a good ROI among no one who will ever come close to this channel.
To me the 7" display is almost useless. It would be ok to browse internet back in 2013 with a 7" screen. My phone right now is a bit more than 6" already. I have the 8" fire tablet from 2020 and it is working fine for me except the limited onboard storage.
I’ve found the fire 7 was always the bare minimum. They even struggle with ebooks over time. They just aren’t worth the “savings,” and you should just go with the 10”.
sad, really. i got a fire hd 10 refurbished from i believe 2017 and loved it ... till i cracked the screen. if amazon had a like 7/8 inch with 1080p display and maybe 4gigs of ram and slightly smaller bezels, i'd be so into that.
I bought it because I can put google play on it, install camera plus and use it as my monitor on my mirrorless camera! should be here soon, can't wait. was using it on my old essential phone cause it has otg too and dam its awesome. I can save my photo's double on my camera using it. stick a 128-1tb card in it and I have back up's for days. I thought about the fire 8 refurb and canceling but 7 is big enough and light enough also the reso is what is gives out "no lag using usb c" tested with my fire 10 2021 i got for 70 witch is sad, I could of waited till this was dirt cheap during a sale but it's still cheaper than a monitor has it's own battery last longer and i only need one tiny usb c to c cable.
Basically an entry level tablet tyied up to the Amazon ecosystem. Nobody doing anything beyond the basics on the 7" front, you see more innovation from 8" and up and I rather have clean Android instead of Fire OS.
I've been looking to buy this on Amazon but it's not available. I can't seem to find it locally, either, in my country. I just want to use it to read books, browsing and watch some YT or Netflix, and no games whatsoever. As bad as it is, at least it is not as lag as the 2015 version of Kindle Fire 7.

Had one of these on launch day and it was clear right away this tablet cut too many corners. My biggest issue is how quiet it is. The excellent10 from last year just clubbers this thing
