Actually there is a button to return to Sync from Android Auto, and it can be seen also in your video. It is the last one, to the right on the black bar. For Apple CarPlay, there is a dedicated entry in the app list called Ford, which will return you to Sync. Indeed, while connected to either one, you will not be able to use the Sync Navigation System, as it will go straight into the app your using on the phone (Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, etc); but you can still use other Sync stuff, including Radio or playing from a CD, other connected device, etc. Also, if you desire to charge your phone while connected to the USB but not to start Android Auto nor Apple CarPlay, there is a setting in the Sync Setting menu, where you can activate/deactivate each service individually. I saw this misleading information already in too many reviews, that you cannot use the car system or yada yada. I do not understand why, as these options are quite easy to find in the menu ...

Once again a great review from you guys. The enthusiasm and thoroughness in your reviews always makes it a pleasure, even if you review cars I'm not into in the first place. About the back of the car I really think, that it's nicely done. Most manufacturers fail on that part with some models, like all the creativity went into the front and the side-profile. I don't like the radio-display, and even if you suggest, that it's a secondary feature, I prefer cars, where design reaches a level of harmony, and not obvious compromises. But people buy lots of Fiestas, so I guess people can live with ugliness. :D

There's something about vivid orange cars that bugs like. I used to have a BRIGHT orange Ford (almost exactly the same color as this ST) and I can't tell you the amount of bugs that it used to attract. Probably thought they were going to get nectar out of the paint or something !

Awesome car review. Surprised you didn’t mention the Sync3 Nav showing No GPS on the screen despite having a clear view of the sky. This bug had existed on all Focus ST with Sync3 since 2017 and Ford can’t fix it 😳

Really enjoyed Your presentation, Brian. Your adjectives, which you use when describing something, are adding a lot of value and class to the presentation. Ford really nailed it with this ST. The problem with high consumption also has I30 N. Still, it is a hard choice between ST and I30 N, which are the best value for your money and generally excellent all-rounder. Are there any infos on new OPEL Astra OPC?

High consumption in the focus because high weight and the higher displacement. Dificult to be more efficient. High consumption in the i30n because even higher weight, and very old engine design. Astra opc very unlikely. Since it's a gm car, and psa is now in charge.

great review Brian. Agree parking brake needs LED light, have this in the Mazda. Hope the B&O is better than the Sony model in the last 2015/2016 ST3's. Still think Magnetic would be the coolest colour, and offered for the first time.

I agree, I think Magnetic is the best colour so far. I also don't understand why they're skimping on LEDs on the back. I think neither the reverse light nor the back indicators are LED-based.

I believe that that was the most thorough review of the car until now. You ‘ve said at some point that you would prefer the manual vs the auto gearbox, although the latter “is really good”. Have you actually driven the auto version? I m asking cause I m interested of the still-to-come auto version. As for the consumption, I used to have the 5 cylinder 2,5 lt ST for 3 years. After 45000k, the average fuel consumption of it was about 12,5 lt/100 km. It is beet odd the newer ST to have such a higher a consumption, 14,6 lt/100k, even with 51 more hp...

I can see why the shallow door pocket would be an issue. The last thing you would want is the water bottle falling out and getting stuck underneath the pedals and then having no brakes!

This is the best shape looking focus Mk3 - The rear lights(the original, not face lift) was ugly af. The rear lights in particular looked awfully awkward. Focus mk2 - looked like a bean... A nice looking bean tbh. I owned one at 18- I made it look like a focus st. Beautiful looking bean of a car. Mk1 - Ugly bean.

My favourite Fast Ford's are Escort mk1&2 RS2000, RS1800, Mexico, Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4& Capri 2.8i. Like the Focus RS & this ST.

RE: the boot. Weird, the MK2 rear folding seats are better, the bottom raises up for the backs to fall into their place. I'm one person who uses my ST2 as a fast van sometimes

What a great review on this ST exactly what enthusiasts want. However, you compared it to the old Mk 3 ST a couple of times, what would you say is the main differences between the two? Having driven the 2 the obvious differences to me were the power, the ride is definately more comfortable and more space in the cabin. My gripe with the New ST is the price. Its about £6k or 7k more than the previous fully loaded ST which puts it in the RS price brkt but its not an RS so wont hold its value like the Ford Hot hatch flag bearer. Having owned 5 ST's need something tangeable to warrant that extra cash

That seat looks perfect for the car -- just enough bolstering but still accessible. I am curious about the e-diff. Is it like the e-diff unit in contemporary GTI models? Is it a brake only? Or something other? The shortened shifts, rev match, revised dash and recaro seats are compelling features. Sure wish that this latest version was available in the USA. Thanks for the great review and word use (funereal!!!!). Edit: holy crap, that fuel consumption translates into 16mpg and that's inline with far more powerful and exotic sports cars. For me, these daily driven sports cars are operated in anger in very short spurts with most of the use in moderate traffic and at reasonable speed.

The e-diff is similar to the one in the gti performance. Not related to brakes. Multi plated clutch pack with hydraulic pump, electronically operated.

Agreed. And Ford (and their Customers) had an interesting situation set up with factory supported Mountune performance upgrades available. But we may have screwed ourselves with the love of the SUV and demanding ever larger and taller vehicles. We are our own worst enemy, as consumers.

Cool car but ford keeps failing on some execution especially with rear seat not sitting flush when folded down. I honestly like the package but some of the missteps just screams low rent and I’m willing to sacrifice marginal performance trade offs. I’ve been driving a 2014 forte5 turbo and it still looks contemporary. Power can be modulated with a tune and really give it a nice package for a lot less money’s.

Oficial info talks about 2 pot 330mm front brakes, brembo developed. Standard. With electronic brake booster.

I now it's a hot hatch but those milage figures are really poor for a Ford engine. Yeah it's 2.3 but wow that thing is thirsty. I'm totally fine with that when it's being thrashed, but "normal" driving to get 25mpg? Fucking painful. I really want this car, and I'll pay for the gas when putting my foot down, but it'll be my everyday commuting car and I don't really want to have 25mpg just pootling to work and back.

Good people for the Gods sake please tell me, why and who would need such a speed monster!!?? I have driven Focus 0,9 liter 3 cylinder 125 hp ecoboost engine, and I would touch a speed pedal very slightly and the car is already exceeding legal speed limit!! And if trying to explore at least 50% of capabilities of this ST version one for sure would end up in prison!!!.. speed limits are severe, penalties are severe, and why they sell such cars to general public!??...

It all depends on what you use or are after in a car. For me personally a car with less than 200 BHP would feel underpowered. Anything between 200-300 BHP is the sweet spot for daily use eg nipping around town or the occasional overtake on the motorway. I'm happy to report after 15 years of driving I still have a clean licence. Just because you have a "fast" car doesn't mean you are gonna drive like a maniac, and I totally agree with you it's not cool or clever to do such.

ATE Continental Freins à disque avants ATE Continental qui équipent la Fiesta nouvelle neuve actuelle:voyez ,où plutôt écouter ce qui se passe lorsqu'on freine,en terminaison de freinage,c'est assourdissant,à croire qu'il n'y a pas de garniture et que cela frotte plaquette sans garniture contre disque sonore(c'est tout le temps de l'année,depuis le premier jour d'achat). Après +20 000kms maintenant,les crissements de tôle en terminaison de freinage sont toujours làl .Mais ceci n'est pas sans conséquence pour Ford,car à cause de ces ATE Continental,autour de moi,plus personne ne veut prendre une Ford neuve.Qui voudrait avoir,à vie,une voiture qui fait un tel bruit?!

My opinion: nice looking car from the outside and ugly inside, bad entertainment system (looking outdated), virtual cockpit looks poorly. No flat space in the back. comparing to VW GTI performance (not mentioning) TCR or Seat Leon Cupra even it just looks outdated and more plastic. I also hardly doubt it will do 5.7 with manual...

Very cheap looking interior. Why do manufacturers stick with grey interiors, so much nicer with a bit of colour.

I'd like some more coloured stitching (especially on the steering wheel) but I don't think it looks cheap at all. There's a limit, for example the Polo GTi looks tacky with those coloured dashes. Better like this.
