I've always been a fan of Fords, especially the st and rs focus's. I've seen a few reviews on this generation of the st and some of them have been fairly negative and very picky. But your review is great! Thank you for sharing it! :D

About that price: Ford seems to be giving good discounts for the ST, as they do with most of their cars. I went to the dealership (Romania) to see what kind of deal I'd get. They helped me spec up a petrol ST with every bell and whistle added aside from the sunroof and towing hook (don't think I missed anything else). So it went something like this: The list price for the _base_ petrol model was 29.5k EUR. Note that unlike in the UK, our base model is somewhere similar to the last generation's ST-2, so you still have some stuff to add (B&O system for example). You guys get the ST-3 directly. My configuration came in at 35.6k EUR list, but they said the car comes with a discount. The final price was 30.4k EUR. You'd be looking at something like 31k EUR if you also include the sunroof. That is a pretty aggressive price point, it's similar to the i30N in these parts and cheaper than the Megane RS. Way cheaper than the GTI too, which starts at 32k and comes with laughable kit on it. Same thing seems to be happening in Germany, dealerships are listing pre-configured variants ranging from 26k to 33k even though their configurator quote a staggering 39k for a full option model. I'm not sure why Ford are inflating their list prices so much, people say it's marketing but I don't think that makes sense. People seem to be put off by the initial pricing and ignore the car because of it. You have to walk into a dealership and ask to get the real price, which is more than weird. This car would receive significantly different reviews if the list price was actually accurate.

I just bought one in fury orange and it is a amazing car

Just had a battle today in my e46 M3 with one of these. It lost. And my son was driving my car. To be honest... i was surprised. I didn't know the latest ST was this powerful. I'm not into the new cars as i was a few years ago. I thought it only had about 240/250hp, but it kind of gave us a hard time. But not really.

The proportions looks good nice sports car not overly done. Just right as the saying goes are you going to bark all day or are you going to bite. Like you eloquently said it ranks with the best of the hot hatches 👍🏻 The colour combo I personally liked however I am not perfect I like ford blues🙏 great review

Picking my black one up today! It was a totally spontaneous purchase. Was going to get the RS3 but the insurance was way too expensive! The Focus ST shocked me at the power, I didn't see much difference to the RS3. Great fun!

how do you compare it to the golf gti tcr?

The more I hear about the specs of the car, the more I think it is definitely worth the money. It has all the tech you need and many more expensive brands are more expensive and don't have the same tech as the new Focus does... or it is a very expensive option. (NOTE: I am speaking with the spec that us here in Australia will get when the vehicle lands on our shores March next year). Personally I could not care less about hard plastics in places you don't touch and in any case, who sits in a car scratching their finger nails down surfaces just to see if they are soft or hard. The two things that are pet hates with vehicle reviewers... Scratching surfaces and those who try to tell us the car either looks good or bad. Not specifically you PEAK PERFORMANCE REVIEWS... but if I'm interested in a particular car and watching your review, I've probably already decided I like the look... reviewers should NOT give thoughts on the looks of a vehicle... looks are purely subjective. Having said that, nice review... thanks for sharing.

Hi there at peak performance, just watched this video, tbh, yours has probably been the best, I've had 2estate versions, but going back to hatch, ordered, and hope to have it in a couple weeks(covid 19)doesnt help. OK onto some points Yes it's expensive, but your getting a whole new car(compared to my 67reg)totaly different, so cost speaks for itself, colour options, I've ordered performance blue,, black, white, race red, Ruby red all blend into the back ground, I'm not saying there not nice, orange fury, I think personally I'd get fed up with it after 3mths, metallic grey is probably the wrong choice as the the whole car blends into one. The car is brilliant, can't wait. As always these are my opinions. Good work.

Looks great, really hope Ford release an RS. I’ve just put Pilot Sport 4’s on my Cupra and can confirm awesome tyre.

The last ST was a 2 litre, they only used the 2.3 in the RS. Anyway, it is a massive improvement on the previous ST where they just put a powerful engine in the car and thought that would be enough, I'm loving driving the new one and I've only just got past the run in so I haven't even really pushed it properly yet. Also, the black one doesn't look as good because it just looks like an ST Line, because you can't see the different colours on the front bumper, definitely happy that I specced the Performance Pack as well, just adds to a really, really good car.

Very good review, still think the previous generation was better looking.

Nice looking. Shame it has an electronic handbrake though, at least the fiesta still uses manual ones

What’s the base price mate? You haven’t mentioned it much!

The anti-lag in this is performed by keeping the throttle open to allow more air to get into the cylinders during deceleration, thus resulting in more air coming out the exhaust during deceleration, thus keeping the turbo spinning faster than would be with a normal positioned throttle. There's no fueling on this anti lag. Fuel driven Anti-lag is (at least used to be) horrendous for Turbo longevity... and yet.. it made a lot of noise. NOTE: Even though the throttle is kept open, there is no fuel being injected on deceleration...

Is it the same 2.3 as the Mk3 RS? If so, I wonder why they detuned it to 280hp from 345hp? Drivability and wheelspin maybe?

I think possibly the engine is derived from the Mazda 3 MPS engine, massively re engineered of course with inprovements with time

Always enjoy your driving as you seem to be home in more minimal set up cars like no awd as it takes away from the unknown proper ⛽️ 👨 here in North America ford is going to delete there car line up and just have trucks suv e mustang and mustangs. You can argue 32k but remember Ford aren’t about “premium” interiors. You’re paying for the mechanicals. They choose to spend the money where it matters and that’s the oily bits! It probably drives better than most performance hatchbacks.

There's quite an emphasis on price. If price is important, buy when other people aren't buying and you'll get a bigger discount. December for example...

Got one it’s a beast, why get so fixated with price when everyone buys on a pcp, so it’s monthly cost rather than list price, otherwise no one would buy a merc or bmw would they ?

Why wouldn’t you buy the previous gen Focus RS over this??

32K is just inflation and the going rate nowadays. 20 years ago a top of the range V6 Cougar was 22K and that had nowhere near the technological advances or perfromance of this car.

Infact i am more than happy to put my car against the stock mk 4

Literally noone is gonna pay anything close to 32.000gbp for a base model ST, in reality that will give you a pretty much fully loaded one at your dealership. I got a fully loaded ST-Edition for 32.300.

Should have washed and vacuumed it before the review, it lessens the impact of what is a nice car

Its got the performance, but my god its a boring looking car, i had a look at one the other week, it is over priced and looks like a standard focus, great review.

It's not the best looking car ever but it's always gonna look better than a golf🙄 I think Ford can only justify the price cos of the new tech it has but it was good before the new toys 🤔
