I have heard you say “LightWeight” about 5 or 6 times..... but not ONE time did you care to actually tell the audience what the weight IS.... care to tell people how much this lightweight gun weighs?
My apology. I did mention it when filming it, but must have cut out the take of it due to some mistake. The gun weighs in at 31.5 oz. This is on average 8oz lighter than a full stainless 1911. That is dry weight.
Kyle Black the IDEA of watching a review is to get a good amount of the features and specs of an item without taking additional steps searching for missing facts. This is especially true when key features are mentioned many times, but not followed up with specifications regarding that key feature. Just my take from a few years working in tech reporting/case documentation . Don’t guess I learned anything with that company there Kyle
Last $950.00 all black Colt 45 I saw, with blue G-10 grip panels, I REALLY wanted to buy it, but two problems: 1) The scroll markings on the slide were crap. Deep for some letters, shallow for others. 2) WAY too loose lockup of the barrel. NO THANKS! Honestly wanted to buy it. But damn, they don’t seem to care about QC.
Great video, I’m new to 1911’s and just bought a Kimber 1911. I love your humor while you narrate the video. Lots of fun to watch and informative. Thank you for the video💪🏻💪🏻 Dave
I have this exact weapon, and I picked it up new for less than $600 at Bass Pro. I've cycled about 600rds through it as of mid-April 2021, and by about the 400 mark (after 2 separate cleanings and lubings) it's now a fantastic piece. I was hesitant with the full length guide rod, but it hasn't failed me at all. My only issue is the right side grip as the finish near the top screw chipped a tiny bit the last time I was at the range. The weight is not a big selling point, honestly. It's still a big honkin hammer, I carry something smaller every day simply based on the size and weight. I'd highly advise purchasing this over any lower end 1911 in the same price range.
I bought this gun not knowing what I was buying. I figured it out when I had this gun and my ruger sr1911 in my hands together. I like it though. 100% reliable out of the box.
I picked mine up for 600. Took it to the range for the first time today and I love it. I fed it about 100 rounds of 200 grain hollow points, and had zero malfunctions. I definitely recommend it, as long as you don’t mind the alloy frame and composite mainspring housing.
B. Weezy I was shooting some steel swinging targets without fresh paint. I intend to put it on paper next weekend to see what kind of groups It shoots. I’ll let you know the results.
I just bought one of these for competitive shooting. I'm impressed with how nice it feels compared to my Glock 17. 1911 people are holding out on us lol, these guns are remarkably nice to hold and use.
Bought one of these today. First 1911 for me, thanks for the safety info, I ran into that partial safety movement in the store and had no idea why it did that.
Mine came with the bronze frame, and I like the weight of the pistol but as usual it's a good idea to break down and clean and lube any firearms before a range trip, it will help in locating potential problems and help prevent malfunction during break-in , just be sure and not oil the extractor arm. Good review.
I agree with lubing whatever moving parts you can get into even before field stripping them when brand new. It helped me dismantle the parts without too much hand force.
Just bought the LW Artic “model” in 45acp let me tell you this thing is A1 and smooth as silk.. Same exact thing as the one in the video just black accent... i fully recommend if you can find in todays gun and ammo shortage.
Thank you for the range report. I'm glad to see more and more are being reliable. I used to hear some horror stories about the more reasonable priced kimber's, but it seems like they're doing well. Keep enjoying it
I just bought one new a month ago. Paid $699 at Cabelas. There was plenty of people on Gunbroker paying $900-$1050 at the time I bought mine. First Kimber after nothing but Colt 1911’s. I’m impressed. The term ‘Lightweight’ is funny when it comes to 1911’s. Once you load them with 230gr ammo, there no lightweight.
I bought this exact same model but in 9mm for $543, tax included, out the door at my local Sportmans Warehouse. This 1911 is a beautiful gun, quality/fit/finish is great and really fun to shoot! 😀 One suggestion would be to add a Klonimus stainless steel main spring housing + magwell to it. Listed at $45 on ebay but you can make an offer for a lower price. Got mine for $39. The fit and finish matches up really well to this 1911 and enhances the function and aesthetics.
I absolutely LOVE the look of these guns man. Handled one tonight at Academy and my god its LIGHT. Not quite staccato light but its definitely noticeable.
🇦🇺😎👍I have a 22lr Target 11 in aluminium and a 9 mm Target 11 in stainless steel in Kimbers and I prefer the full stainless out of the 2. While both are nice guns and quite accurate, both were incredibly tight when they were new. 12 year on and many thousands of rounds through both ,the stainless is a tight as the day it was made and the aluminium gun rattles like an old diesel truck but still accurate. And when I say thousands I guess about 15000 rds . Great video
Kimber made that exact same pistol in about four different color combinations. The one I have is all stainless colored, EXCEPT all of the controls are black. I would have preferred all stainless colored controls (like yours), but oh well. 7:36 "everything is super tight in this pistol." Agreed. Look at the tolerances of the slide, frame, ejector, and extractor at 2:48. I have a 1911 that cost twice as much, and the tolerances are not as close. The *one* thing I couldn't stand about the gun was the original style magazine. I clean the gun and magazine after every trip to the range, and I had to use pliers to extract the follower from the magazine. I purchased (and use) two Wilson magazines, and leave the original one in the box.
Great video! I have the same exact gun. I love it. It’s accuracy is dead on. .45 feels awesome and shoots like a dream. This is my first Kimber and my first 1911. I couldn’t pass it up. $599 @ Cabelas. This is also my concealed carry weapon of choice. Cocked and locked is the way to go!
@@Trancer006 This is my first 1911 so I cant answer how the weight is compared to other 1911's. But as far as recoil, to me its very comfortable. I changed out the grips to OEM grips but with scallop gripping and it makes huge difference. The first time I shot this straight out of the box my grouping was almost dead center. Along with that this was the first time I had been shooting in a long time. I think the gun is a great gun and I recommended it. Additionally with the recoil I notice that I am able to hold the same position very well to control my grouping without being thrown way off because of a strong recoil.
Im surprised that it's so dry. When i picked up my Kimber Arctic LW 9mm it was dripping with lube. I've run a couple hundred rounds thru it with no issues and i love the caliber. This gun is probably the most accurate one i own and there is virtually no recoil. Love it.
Hey first time seeing your video, and that new model. I have the 17' custom two-tone model II 5" 1911 was about $700. Dollars all steel I like it!.they look alot alike, no fiber optic front sight.
I bought one today! I went in to buy a Taurus, and this was less than $200 more, so I decided to splurge. I’ve never fired a 1911 before, I’ll admit I’m kind of a Glock person. Anyway, it was pretty and I decided I needed it. Can’t wait to take it out to the range!
really regret not buying a colt at the beginning of the pandemic for 900 bones. now there hard to find and when i do they’re damn near double the msrp. picked up the kimber because i’ve always loved the 1911 paid $800 though
These are great guns, when getting new mags get the Wilson Combat versions, they work very well with these guns. Have the same gun , grips are blue and it has not malfunctioned 500 or so shots through it.
I got mine back on Black Friday for $549. Only shot about 100 through it so far. Unfortunately I didn't lube it first and the slide was a little clunky. Very accurate and easy to shoot though. I've since lubed it and can't wait to get it back out and shoot another couple hundred through it.
I’ve come to find out over the past 40 years that I’ve been shooting 1911’s that they like to run “wet”. People in the know (Larry Vickers, Bill Wilson, Jason Burton) agree.
This pistol is waiting at my FFL. Thanks for the review. Good detail. Excited to pick it up and put it through it’s paces. Kimber also has it in a 9mm. I assume this is the .45.
That’s the only gripe I have personally, one mag! For the price of the gun you should get two clips like most guns! That’s a beautiful gun there. It should shoot as well as it looks too.
Not sure that’s the solution. If you lube the hell out of it, how are the slide to frame gonna wear properly?? I think one poster’s idea of an abrasive, or aluminum polish is a BETTER SOLUTION. NO sandpaper! Sounds logical to me! My first Kimber was tight, but not THAT tight! This one in the video was CRAZY tight! Like Ed Brown tight! Or the high-end 1911 maker in Norwich, NY, that the all SS/aluminum frame 1911’s were SO tight, after 6 rounds, the slide wouldn’t come off the frame, even with a plastic hammer!! (To not damage the gun.) There’s a video about it. These are $3K+ 1911’s!! Forget the name of the maker. CRAZY!
Using premium ammunition will break-in the pistol and help with reliability. My Kimber pistols all functioned perfectly. I did rack the slide a few hundred times before shooting. Lightly oil the slide, and wipe with a clean lint free towel. Kimber is the best selling 1911 pistol for a reason.
You treat your handguns good like i do, by gently letting the slide rack forwards with having your hand on it. Of course unless you got a loaded magazine in there and getting ready to target shoot.
I do now. I was a little LAX back in the day. I used to just let the slide slingshot forward. While it's not going to damage a gun doing it once or twice, it is best practice to guide an empty slide home. Thank you for noticing I've improved my technique I'm glad to hear you do it as well
@@TheJimminiShow thank you, plus I have slight OCD about unnecessary ruff housing my things too. Might be over kill to guide the slide home but thats what I do as well.
I recently purchased one for myself and my personal gun does not have any issue with the safety. Maybe that was just a small percentage manufacturing defect but it appears to be corrected now
Funny that the piece of plastic you used was a Wii U pad stand which I am currently using to rest my Nintendo Switch on while watching this video review on. Sounds like the Desert Eagle 1911 is a little bit nicer deal. I think I would prefer the weight of it too.
Where? Cabelas is selling these now for $599 in either 9mm or .45 and the guy behind the counter said its the everyday price. Ss or tan in either caliber.
Is the shadow ghost version all stainless parts? -grip safety -safety -slide lock lever -barrel bushing Are those stainless steel material? Or will it rust if u polish those?
I own a kimber S.S Target II. In 45ACP . It's one bad ass pistol, accuracy is outstanding! SAME goes for my Kimber Aegis Elite Pro in 9mm. Both run as smooth as butter, even with reloads. Actually even better with reloads as far as accuracy. That light weight looks tempting to purchase. Nice review. If I wasn't going for a Kimber Micro 9 next I grab one of those just because you can never have to many Kimbers. :)
Great video, I own several Kimbers almost their entire Raptor series and the new Rapide model, All shoot like a dream with no problems, But Kimbers aren't "hand fitted" they are probably the BEST fitted assembly line production guns... I've contacted their custom shop many times and they do not hand fit anything they only enhance cosmetics... I have a Ultra Raptor and once that coating wears off the aluminum frame it wont be so tight like it is now, Not knocking the video and Still over all one of the best and greatest 1911s on the market!
@@thollingsworth4910 I am a Kimber fan boy always have been since I bought my first raptor when they came with External extractors, So I'm bias to them they have ALWAYS served me well never have I had 1 issue with a Kimber, I collect 1911s so i own many different makers and yes there are alot of people that make "better" 1911s some are truly hand fitted and have really tight tolerances, but they also cost 3,000 and more, Dan Wesson makes great 1911s New for around 1200 and up, so I've handled and shot and own some of the what people consider the "Best" and Kimber always has performed just as well for me as my Night hawk has, So to me yes the Rapide is worth the money, to the Average joe unless your a marksman shooter you probably wont be able to tell the difference in shoot ability. Plus Kimber are just awesome looking! They make they most Beautiful 1911s, and the Rapide is Amazing looking and shooting gun, a bullseye gun for sure, you wont be dissatisfied. Happy Shooting!
At around 9:40 you state that this 1911 has "a ramped barrel". That is most definitely NOT a "ramped barrel" as the term in applied to the 1911. This Kimber has a standard 1911 barrel, with short chamber mouth, and using a frame ramp or clearance. A "ramped" 1911 barrel has an integral feed ramp which requires the standard frame feed ramp to be removed. Ramped barrel 1911s are usually chambered in 9mm or .38 Super, not .45 Auto.
You are correct and I have already acknowledged this many times in the comments. I was dealing with other guns at the exact same time including a SDS 1911 which did in fact have a ramped barrel on a 45 which caused it to not feed hollow points. I apologize for the mistake thank you for the clarification please be a little more lenient with me in the future I am not claiming to be an expert I do not claim to know everything about a gun I am just showing a gun as if I was buying it thankfully there are plenty of people that will correct me
Kimber alloy frames are forged as are their steel guns. They do not cast their frames. I have been carrying a pro carry two for 11years several thousand rounds 100% reliable
I borrow these from my friend and I have to give them back the next day so he can take them back to work so I only have the evening to film them so they don't come out perfect but thanks for the appreciation it's awesome
Vances in Ohio has them for 568. If you go to Cabellas, they will price match plus give you 10% off if you are a club member . Im going today to get mine. So its like $512 plus tax.
Take down was easy for me but I'm struggling with reassembly when it comes to putting the slide back on with the guide rod in to line up the holes to put back the slide lock in
I use a small tooth pick to line up the hole quickly. Otherwise you just have to rock the slide back and forth which on a new weapon is a little stiff. Should be easier once you have reached the break-in period.
First off, love the pun. And you should. Kimber makes an excellent product. I had the Kimber warrior. It shot really nice but I needed unfortunately to sell it so that I could buy other guns. I currently have a Sig Sauer nightmare. If you can find one for a decent price I say get that Kimber and enjoy the heck out of it
I just bought one about two weeks ago. I really enjoyed shooting it, but replaced the grips first thing. I would have maybe stayed with the grips if they would have been black. I bought the wrap around black rubber grips which really improved the look and feel of the gun. I also found some ambi black rhino horn grips (ambi) which I'm still waiting to receive. I'm a lefty and have also ordered the ambi safety which is also in transit. Sometimes it's just about making the gun yours so to say. Enjoyed the review.
P.S. I did also field strip my weapon and clean/lube before I shot it. Mine also had been factory shot with note of a very small carbon area around the ramp. Hope that helps. No failures either using winchester .45 full metal jacket ammo.
I’m confused why is it dangerous with the safety Able to move up a little bit with the hammer down? You can’t pull the trigger with the hammer down anyway? Why pay attention? I love the video though I’ve become a huge fan of the kimber after emptying a mag of defense ammo out of a buddys (45) I’m in love LOL. I’m gonna hit that subscribe 🇺🇸💯
I bought one of these in the bronze version. Took it apart the 1st day and could not reassemble it. The slide lock would not go back in. Sent it back to Kimber and they sent it back reassembled. Took it a friend who has gunsmithing shop. He couldn't get the slide lock back in until he filed down part of it. Shoots great and can be reassembled no issue.
The problem is some don't do the ramp right. The Tisas 45 has the wrong angle on the ramp, and it jams with hollow points. Traditional 45 acp 1911's have a bevel on the back of the barrel, and that is why most will feed anything. Look at any that jam on Hollow points, and I guarantee they have Long feed ramps
I own this gun and i am curious what you use to clean your weapons i live in a humid enviroment and keep this in my nightstand i have notice it doesnt look quite as clean as when i first purchased it. Almost looks like small specs of rust or something. This is my first handgun and am curious about maintenance. Also what kind of lube do you use feedback would be appriciated.
This is not a series 70 pistol the pin safety is what you call swartz andit’s totally different in every way from a series 70 it works off of the grip safety and has nothing to do with the trigger big difference
I just bought one of these and it’s having constant problems feeding ammo with any type of ammo I have. I bought some kimber tac pro mags and it helped but didn’t solve it completely
Thats a bummer. Sounds like the feed ramp was cut at the wrong angle. Or the gap between the ramp and the barrel has a ledge that grabs the bullet weird.
Honestly, just didn't think about using the bushing tool. My kimber warrior ran fine with Wilson Combat mags, not sure about this model. Ramo and frame were just regular finish on the gun. Wouldn't hurt to polish them up
I have the stainless Arctic LW in 45 acp. My only complaint is that it's noticeably harder to rack the slide than on my bare bones cheap ATI GI 1911. Have you noticed that? Is the spring stiffer?
I’m considering one of these. Oddly enough, the low price is what kinda scares me. Can it handle +P ammo? Not I would frequently use it but mine would be a range toy. Are you sure that it takes standard 1911 mags? I heard that these only accept Kimber mags.
From the research I did, you can use +P, but it is only recommended for Personal Protection and Occasional range use, i.e. practice. They do not recommend +P all the time. As for Mags, it will use others, but you need to make sure the follower is Non tilting. Otherwise it could Nose dive the bullet in the mag Chip McCormick makes good mags from what I hear
That is the Barrel Bushing wrench. It depresses the plunger while turning the front bushing. I didnt use it that's why I had some trouble. Not needed for broken in 1911s but useful on new ones
