Just got this same gun...it convinced me the moment I pulled back the slide and felt that glass smooth travel. it was smoother out of the box than any other gun I have purchased.
Just purchased the exact same firearm, and I agree... It is the BEST mid range 1911 you could choose. I have multiple 1911's ranging from Wilson Combats down to ATI/Rock Island, and the features, quality, and function you get with this one is simply fantastic for its price.. I highly recommend. When I got mine home, I gave it a good clean and oil and then took it out to a friends farm to shoot.. ran fantastic with zero issues for 550 rounds yesterday!!
just bought my first pistol and chose the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911G. Thank you for a well organized and thoughtful review. Reinforced my decision on my purchase.
After much research I purchased one a few months ago, this gun is awesome! The trigger is great the fit and feel are perfect it's pure pleasure to shoot.
I bought one a few months back. It is one of the best kept secrets in the 1911 world if you're not wanting to spend $1k+. The trigger is breaking at sub 3lbs after break in. It's beyond accurate and the fitment is beautiful! My only complaints are... I wish it came with fiber optic front sight, my mags separated at the feed lips within 150rds, and the coating scratches easily (doesn't really bother me much). I put Wilson combat mags in it and have been running strong ever since.
Thanks Brandon I appreciate your comment, I just bought a Undercover model, yes a fiber optic front sight would have helped me also. Thank for info on the mags also. We all need to let manufactures know there is no excuse for cheap mags in their guns , we pay heavy for their product and should get quality through out the firearm. Thanks again.
I agree and have the same words to say ! Same thing happen with me with the original mags they were loaded and one day they popped and bullets went flying everywhere lol then went to academy and bought the Wilson combat mags
I was just going to say “Wilson Combat…” and you beat me there. I have a bunch of Chip McCormick’s and they seem to run fine. It is a great gun for the money. Love the knurling. Well done.
Put 100 rds through my pistol recently...performed flawlessly! LOVE THIS GUN!!! Smooth, crisp trigger...absolutely no creep. No feed jams...perfect ejections...so accurate!!!
I carry this exact pistol as my duty pistol. I use Chip McCormick 8rd mags loaded with 7rds because it makes tactical reloads much easier. Mine came with black sights, which I changed to tritium Kimber sights. Yes, they took a bit of fitting. This is by far the easiest pistol I've ever qualified with. Whatever I point at gets perforated. Seriously that good.
I just purchased one of these and I was looking at putting the same Kimber meprolight sights on it, Alot of people online say they "Should" Fit but it is nice to find out that they actually do fit with some fitting,
I have the stainless one and I shoot it the best of any (.45) 1911 in my collection. The main reason for that is the trigger, it tests at about 3 1/2 lbs. I now have something over 5K rounds through it and still put 12 mags through it every week. I have been trying unsuccessfully for almost two years to get one in 9MM, but my PM9 DW keeps me happy. Enjoyed your review, thanks!
I’ve owned mine for about a week and have about 150 rounds through it. It is my favorite pistol… and I have a few good ones. My first shot went squarely on the bullseye at 10 yards. I can regularly hit the bullseye at 20 yards. The trigger pull feels like 3.5 lbs. Talk about a gun designed to point and stay in your grip. From the G-10 to the checkering. It is gorgeous and so well made. Smooth as silk. High quality and affordable. I am blasting the center out of the target. And they threw in the knife. I like SA guns, but their mid point 1911 for more can’t touch it. And you don’t get a knife either. Love it.
I just bought one last week and today I had the pleasure to shoot it. What an awesome 1911! It is my tenth 1911. So, yes when I say it's a good one, it's a good one! Absolutely ate all kinds of ammo. Hollow points etc. No problems whatsoever. I can't say enough good about this gun. If I only had one that I could keep of the 10 that I own . This would be it!
I picked one up yesterday, the sights are changed to all black with the rear being a ledge type, the flats on the slide are plane giving the gun a very clean look, I am very pleased with this pistol and a nice addition to my 1911 collection!
Manufactured by Bul ltd in Tel Aviv. Magnum Research is the distributor and Desert Eagle is just a marketing ploy. I own the Government 5" in black and the 4'3 Commander in stainless. Amazing quality and attention to detail from Bul.
I bought one of these back in october of 2021 (last pistol my dad helped me buy before he passed) and I love the gun I had a different case then yours and mine doesn't say desert eagle or the knife but it shoots great a little high for where i'm trying to shoot (might be me) but otherwise an excellent pistol and once I held her I knew I had to have her she felt so amazing in my hands and as you can see she is beautiful.
Enjoyed watching it seems like a nice peace, I watched your other video and picked up a Kimber lw 1911 for about 580 bucks and couldn’t be happier , it’s my first 1911 but for the money it’s a solid piece! Looking forward to more videos 👍🏼
I have never had an issue with the factory mags. All my extra mags are Wilson Combat. I have the Stainless commander version and love it. I an normally not a fan of stainless but this is a great gun. Mine is also in .45 caliber, alot of the reviews are being done with 9mm. Cocked and Locked is the only way to fly !!!
Thanks for the video. All my carry guns are Glocks. But I've been planning to purchase my first 1911. I don't want to spend Wilson combat money on my first one. I've been thinking about Kimber, or maybe Springfield. But this thing is a real contender I think. 👍🇺🇲
my first two handguns I bought was this exact magnum research 1911 model in .45, and a Springfield garrison in 9mm. Both are incredibly solid, but go with the magnum research; it's more premium feeling and has tighter construction.
The knife is a very nice touch. I'd buy this firearm for sure in fact I'll start looking for one now. I have a Ruger commander in stainless and love it in not picky about the finish on firearms. I would love a case hardened model. Those are good looking pistols and rifles.
The only issue I had with mine (MR1911U) was the stock mags that constantly jammed. They send me 2 new ones and they did the same thing. But when using Kimber, Colt, and other brand mags, it worked flawlessly. I threw the stock mags out. But because of this mag issue, my local dealer stopped selling this gun.
I got a DE 1911c most accurate pistol i have , another good one from iwi is the jerico fs great gun full steel frame cold forged barrel for 500$ similar to a cz 75.
Not sure if labeling this pistol as 'mid range' is accurate. My MR1911CSS absolutely smokes my Colt LW, Kimber, and Springfield and is on par with my Staccato C2 concerning machine and fitment.
I wanted a Stainless 1911 for my first one because I like the look more, couldn't find what I wanted while mainly looking at Springfields and I should've looked more at Bul Armory/Magnum Research, ended up spending a lot more on a Dan Wesson Valor black, oops. Finally got a stainless 1911 last week with a Bul Armory Commander in .45, was almost $800 before taxes/shipping/fees really nice 1911 for less than half the price of my Valor. Considering buying another 1911 in 9mm this time and it'll probably be Bul Armory or Magnum Research again. That is if I can find one that's also not being sold at a jacked up price.
they go for 975$ directly from magnum research i got mine at a gunshop with minimal use for 820 it is my favorite pistol I've ever shot in the under 1000$ price range and the newest ones dont say desert eagle anymore
This color, is nice. The matte silver variant is the one I'm looking 2 get. A video was shown on a viking, series. Even sweeter than both colors, so far! Either will be fine with me 👍
More and more interested by that brand. They are sold under the brand "Bul" in Europe. I can't find a version with a bushing barrel though, only bull barrels... I hope they are as good as everyone says. My first 1911 was a Taurus and it was VERY dispointing. Exterior was very nice, it shot really well out of the box. But the hammer fitting was bothering me, I took it appart and the interior was a catastrophy! Machining marks (that I don't mind at all), a lot of burr on the frame (big enough to block the action) and mostly a dangerous defect: the sear wasn't machined properly: a sideways chunk was missing and only a third of the sear would catch...
I’m sorry, but I have to ask, hasn’t Rock Island being doing this same firearm for several years and for less? I liked the video and I’m excited for your next one. Thank you for sharing your info on this gun. 👍🏾
No worries. Rock Island is the Largest manufacturer of 1911's in the world. They make an excellent pistol and in fact. my first 1911 was a Rock Island. They do make a competitor to the 1911 by Magnum research, But the match model is almost the same price. I would recommend the Desert Eagle over the Rock Island at this price point, but at the entry side of things, Rock island is tough to match
What's your view on the stainless steel 1911 with front serrations from auto ordinance? My buddy has one and I liked it more than Kimber, asshat armory(Springfield), and Ruger.
Yes but to Magnum Research specs. Both brands are owned by Khar if you didn't know. Another one under Khar that's made a comeback is Auto-Ordnance. There quality went way up since Khar bought them
@@JJsGA you are right tho about AO they make some really nice 1911’s. Been meaning to pick up a GI clone of theirs just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
BUL doe NOT own Desert Eagle. KAHR arms owns desert eagle. These are made under lisc FOR Magnum Research. Kahr owns Magnum Research, Kahr (Of Course,) as well as Thompson. BUL is a European company that uses their contract through Kahr to import and sell, but they also import their own guns. I do agree they make a great gun tho
@TheJimminiShow I stand corrected. KAHR arms has owed Desert Eagle since 2009 and aquired Magnum Research in 2010. However, look at the firearms. they state made by Bul Armory. Made in Israel. Bul Armory was founded in 1990 and is headquartered in Tel Aviv Israel, not Europe.
I’m going crazy trying decide between Matte Black or Stainless Steel. Every time I pull the trigger for stainless I revert back to Matte Black but then when I want Stainless Steel. I find myself just randomly looking at a black 1911.
Bul armory pistols are outstanding period. Magnum research 1911s are made by bul armory in Israel, my only problem with that is that bul doesn't put a billboard sized advertisement on their pistols.
Manufactured in Israel by Bul Armory LTD, Magnum Research only gives a name "desert eagle". In Poland the same gun is under Bul Armory LTD. Bul in EU gives option for bull barrel in government version. In US only commander and undercover have bull barrel.
I am between this 1911 and the Springfield Ronin, what do you think? I have not been able to handle the desert eagle yet, but I have handled the ronin and it does feel great...
It's all going to come down to your personal preference. The Ronin does have a higher price tag, but not by much. I still stand behind what I say that I believe the desert eagle is the best mid-range 1911, but having said that I have no real experience with the Ronin. It's hard to go wrong with either pistol, so put your hands on both before you make your choice
@@TheJimminiShow I am now between this pistol and a different 1911... Another question for you: what is your opinion on the front strap checkering? Is it comfortable, or is it very aggressive and digs into your hand?
I was gonna buy one a year or so ago but the logo was so damn big it felt like i was signing up to rent it not to own it...i think the newer models are toned down a little. I might be too picky but I'm buying a firearm not a pair of shoes lol. Maybe it was just the commander model that came like that
I work for a gun store. We ordered it through our regular distributers. Right now guns are hard to get, but soon you'll be able to order one from us. It's liberty arms in Harrisonburg VA. Google it. If I link it, it will remove even my comment
That is satisfying lolololol Your funny great video thanks, I would purchase this pistol but whichever pistol I would get from the 1911 world, which is going to be my next purchase. I'll be purchasing for range only use. Which barrel length would you recommend . Thanks again all the best and stay safe.
Personally I prefer a 5-in barrel. Gives you the longest sight picture and easily handles the recoil from a 45 even more so from a 9mm if you decide to go that route. If you were going to be using it for Carrie as well as the range then I would go with something in a commander or officer size
@@TheJimminiShow 22 years I've carried a Glock 19 on duty & my off duty was a Glock 26 Both guns I love & trust. Since I have retired 5/31/2020 , I finally switch it up to a Glock 42 as my daily carry with xtreme defense 65 grain +p rounds. So my next few guns will be solely for shooting pleasure. I do already own Sig , Beretta, Colt & S&W, but I don't have a 1911 or a 45 acp , so again thank you for your advice & direction. I do really like the pistol you reviewed. All the best & stay safe.
@@TheJimminiShow Just to say I knew nothing of guns until I became a Police Officer, so my experience with the Glocks is why I do love them, but what people don't realize a Glock is total function, it isn't art, to me in my opinion it gets the job done and it will work. When your looking for art & class in shooting that is where a 1911 comes into play. I just can't afford or even justify the cost of a Wilson Combat. Is that a dream gun yes or even HK P7 M13, but being a civil servant funds dictate what we can buy. So a review like yours actual means the world to me, because you save me the guess work and OMG I just purchased a gun that is now going to sit in my draw and what a waste of money. So again thank you and all the best.
just shy of 1000 here inm Michigan....yes, I was bummed, as I went to buy and just opted to not get it due to the almost 1000 dollar price tag, not cause of the 1000, but due to 200 more and I can step into a much nicer piece
Just bought the under cover compact model. Both magazines are junk and cause jams. Colt magazines fixed it. No I wouldn’t buy again since MR only offered to send 2 more jam magazines..
Much of what you say is correct, I should have said it was the safety on the Kimber LW series. if you look at the Kimber Lightweight series, They share the same Grip Safety, Trigger, And sights. They collaborated on parts, or they are using the same supplier for the parts. I took both the Desert eagle and the Kimber apart and the parts are identical. The odds of two different maufacturers designing the same parts down to the millimeter is impossible.
I have to admit i was a 1911 hater before i bought this gun in commander. "Its single action and single stack and you have to carry it with safety on!" With such smooth action, trigger pull, and accuracy i will probably be getting at least a couple more. Ive been carrying it and now that im used to carrying with safety i have nothing but love for the 1911
Early models had a giant Desert Eagle billboard on the left side. BUL builds the pistol for Magnum Research, so I guess they didn't want to dilute the Desert Eagle brand.
@@TheJimminiShow I’ve seen some with the smaller roll mark but mine is the only one I’ve seen that has no roll mark at all. I’ve tried looking up info about the Change and have had no luck.
You forgot to mention that the frame is cast and machined from carbon steel and the slide is machined from solid billets of steel. It is not as strong or reliable compared to forged 1911's
The Vast majority of 1911s are Cast. As long as they are made right, they can be as reliable as a forged piece. BUL armory makes some of the nicest 1911s and race guns out there. Please cite you sources before continuing to bash something YOU don't like. Thanks
@@TheJimminiShow this is a strange one but, A month ago I went to purchase a magnum research 1911, it was so gorgeous I fell in love with it and I was in the market for a 1911, the price was about 850 if I recall correctly, here in New Jersey. It wasn’t a 5 inch model it was I think 4 3/4. Nevertheless it was sold and still mistakenly in the case, couldn’t sell it to me. Stopping at a different gun store on the way home I found a gun that fit what I wanted plus a rail. A California compliant stainless steel 5 inch Sigg Sauer with rail. I paid 1070 (no great deal but at least I got a rail). Now I’m just hoping I made a wise decision my New Jersey background check should be done in a few days. So obviously I’m just very interested in comparingthe wonderful magnum research 1911, I think it has a very high-quality forged frame. Sigg a all stainless steel. Should’ve I waited for the Magnum research or did I do OK?
Sorry to hear that. It comes two different ways. The gun is available with or without the knife. Depends on which way you ordered it. Sorry if you ordered it with a knife and didn't get it. My suggestion is called Magnum research in Minnesota and tell them you didn't get the knife. If your gun was supposed to come with it they should send you one for free
Just because you can't find them for the original price now doesn't mean anything. When I did the review almost a full two years ago oh, the gun plus a knife was $750 making it a mid-tier 1911 and quite frankly $1,000 1911 is mid-tier. When a gun basically starts at $500 and can run to $4,000 oh, $1,000 is most definitely mid-tier calm yourself and have a good day
