Great review, thanks Nick. It will be interesting to see the pricing for the new Alpine A290 which I imagine will be similar to the Mini Electric SE...
We ordered the Mini SE in JCW trim. I was never a Mimi fan. But this one is just really good. Great entertainment system. Looks good. Great range. Cheap to run. Will be a great addition to my i4. We got almost 25% discount.
Oh wow cool! Electric cars all round, quick question, are you sticking with just the one charger at home (I guess you have one) or are you looking at another…just curious if you don’t mind sharing 🤓
Hi Nick, great review! Any chance you can do an easy to understand breakdown of all the features and shortcuts on that central screen???? Learned so much from you regarding our Merc with your simple explanations and the hidden features! 😊
Thank you! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed the video! On this car? Sadly I only had it for the day but possibly in the future when I might be able to get it for longer!
Hi Nick 😃 Great video. Thanks for that. - Personally, I don't like the arrangement of the instruments at all. Too puristic. - But of course; the Mini will find its buyers. 👍🏼
Maybe check out the CarGurus vid of the New MINI Cooper E. 17" wheels. The ECO based tyres that are fitted for range rather than handling. Traction / Grip. Journalist / vloggers really should check and set tyre pressures. Torque steer. Wheel spin. Yes new cars, green tyres and often overinflated. As media cars often are.
Thank you, sadly didn't have time to check all the settings in the car for an individual switch. But if it was in Eco mode, yes it was completely silent in that drive mode Thank you for watching!
EV’s are always slightly more expensive plus everything in the world has gone up in price which doesn’t help. For the non EV version, Mini Cooper starts from £23,150 which sounds much better. EV’s have their pros and cons and whether or not spending a few thousand more to jump to an EV is worth, that’s a whole topic in itself 😅 But you could get this exact car in a petrol though
you are suppposed to get "rebates" and kick backs and tax incentives. I paid 16,000$ for my 2022 SE after tax credit but it was slightly used and with sale taxes and license came out to 19,000$.
Mini Copper SE is definitely more fun to drive but is very firm when travelling across our bumpy roads in the UK. But some may like that. For me on that front I don’t mind either way. I do love the design of the interior of the mini, I think it looks great although I wish CarPlay was a tad bigger. I think the sound effects would wear off pretty quickly so I’d get those off after a while. I have used the EQA extensively before and covered the Mercedes me charge system which makes public charging easier. I’m not sure if Mini have that or piggyback off of BMW’s system. Annoyingly I do love my sound systems and it’s on Mini’s top package to get that their Level 3 package so that might turn out expensive. However on the cost front, I simply would not be able to afford an EQA with the package I’d want so I’d have to go with the Mini. But I’d probably spend ages on their configurator trying to find the best one 😅 Range is less on the Mini too but I’d make it work.
I tested one and really liked it, but £40,000 was just too much to stomach for what is essentially a disposable car. We ended up throwing practicality out of the window and buying a 1983 mini instead.
Yeah those were just options on that particular car There’s loads to choose from: www.mini.co.uk/en_GB/home/range/all-electric-mini-cooper/variants-and-prices.html
A good friend of ours is a Mini Salesman here. He is coming close to our town in a few weeks and going to stop by and visit us. I am going to ask him about the new Mini lineup and share your video.
It could be but Mini “could” be bringing out a faster one. I don’t know if they are but it wouldn’t surprise me if they released like a John Cooper Works version or something
IMPORTANT is 2 battery sizes. So the WLTP does refer to if the Cooper E & 40.7 kWh, or a Cooper SE & 54.2 kWh. The lighter one with the smaller battery and the similar power to the First Generation 32.6 kWh does handle different. Maybe even more Go-kart like. But then these Chinese (GWM) built MINI,s do have rubbish tyres OEM which has the 218 ps SE spinning tyres. Fit All Seasons maybe for the UK. Then see REAL WORLD how far the Small Battery or Larger Battery car goes. They have different Max Charging speed / kWh as well.
Yes, was just trying to oversimplify it for current Mini owners. DC charge speed is always around 20-40 mins in pretty much every EV. But thanks for sharing the stats! 😎
@@georgewalker7061 the spinning of the wheels is deliberate. The traction control in the old model was so good that there was almost no wheel spin, but some people found that less engaging. So they detuned the traction control slightly on the new model.
Nonsense. I have a level MINI SE 2023. The wheel spin is with the Rubbish Goodyear Eagle F1. Car 184 ps. It is the More powerful new MINI SE crap tyres that causes the wheel spin. The MINI E with good tyres is just like the current car. Were you told the tosh about engagement my MINI media department. Wheel spin, loss of traction is not a safety feature. Dynamic control and traction can be switched off.
Hideous looking taking all the mini look away from the car and that retro feel no manual available and as for the interior boring and definitely that mini look gone
I am sure there will be people who disagree, but the Mini is losing what used to make it different. The current Mini’s, definitely from the back, the tail lights, the hatch etc are morphing into, Suzuki or Toyota Corolla or any small hatchback lookalikes. It’s a shame 😢
The styling is sadly diluted, whilst still quite good looking. Very minimalistic, and the interior has that 'electric appliance' look, which doesn't cut it for me. I am hoping that build quality is allright. Also, how an electric car is 'John Cooper Works' beats me.... The starship sound btw is hideous.
ok we have sound we get it…. but how does it drive on a twisty road? How about a freeway how does the steering wheel feel? You seem very uninterested in this car tbh
I said in the video that if this was out last year when I was shopping for my new car before I bought it, it would have been a contender. It drives just like my partner’s Mini which is very good. Very fun to drive with that classic planted feeling on the road as it sticks to the road like glue. You can feel it’s slightly heavier compared to a petrol car due to the battery at the bottom of an EV but it makes up for it in acceleration.
These tech-biased reviews are so boring. I'd like to watch a Mini review done by a tester who was driving-centric. All of that chatter about the silly, childish sounds the car makes. Drive the car up a tight, twisty hill climb course. Multiple times. And time it with a stop watch. Wind it up and see what the top speed is. Do some 60 to zero stop testing.
Sorry that’s what my channel is about specifically! I focus on the tech and multimedia systems found in cars and your experience within. But seeing as I do this full time, always looking at feedback to help make the videos better. And the more I do it, the more I’ll be able to compare between brands and offer my thoughts 💭 I have actually bought something recently to be able to test 0-60 runs too! 👀 so if you are going to watch other videos that I do, keep an eye out!
