USS Missouri (BB-63) is an Iowa-class battleship built for the United States Navy (USN) in the 1940s and is currently a museum ship. Completed in 1944, she is the last battleship commissioned by the United States. The ship was assigned to the Pacific Theater during World War II, where she participated in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and shelled the Japanese home islands. Her quarterdeck was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan, which ended World War II. She has been called the most historic battleship in the world.
After World War II, Missouri served in various diplomatic, show of force and training missions. On 17 January 1950 the ship ran aground during high tide in Chesapeake Bay and after great effort was re-floated several weeks later. She later fought in the Korean War during two tours between 1950 and 1953. Missouri was the first American battleship to arrive in Korean waters and served as the flagship for several admirals. The battleship took part in numerous shore bombardment operations and also served in a screening role for aircraft carriers. Missouri was decommissioned in 1955 and transferred to the reserve fleet, (also known as the "Mothball Fleet").
Missouri was reactivated and modernized in 1984 as part of the 600-ship Navy plan. Cruise missile and anti-ship missile launchers were added along with updated electronics. The ship served in the Persian Gulf escorting oil tankers during threats from Iran, often while keeping her fire-control systems trained on land-based Iranian missile launchers. She served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 including providing fire support.
Missouri was again decommissioned in 1992, but remained on the Naval Vessel Register until her name was struck in 1995. In 1998, she was donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association and became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Her bow faces the USS Arizona Memorial intending to convey that Missouri watches over the remains of Arizona so that those interred within Arizona's hull may rest in peace.

I instantly thought, "No way is he building this in one video." My younger self in the 60's would be speechless to see these big kits today.

Excellent review of the "old Mo" Chris, thank you. It's so weird to watch a video of yours not dealing with something with wheels. I long for watching the ship already finished.

Paint the decks prior to gluing items onto them, painted separately. PE being bent easy with Tamiya small PE pliers. For firm installation of railings, drill holes in decks, superglue wires in, then superglue railings to wires.

Thanks for the review Chris. I have this on order from my hobby shop but I'm building the Trumpeter 1/200 scale Mighty MO for my nephew serving in Pearl Harbor. I figure I should be done with that kit by the time he retires in five years. Good luck on your build!

That looks really impressive. With the Very Fire/Joy Yard Missouri as well, we have two great options for state of the art 1945 BBs 👍

Just a few hours ago I was at my favorite local hobby shop (next county over) and admired 3 different 1/350 scale ship's. Don't remember the manufacturer but the USS Missouri on the front of the box said it was the 1991 version. The other 2 were USS Enterprise w/jets and the USS Indianapolis they looked like complex kits but I don't know if they were Hobby Boss. Anyway, I know this would take hours and hours, but I would watch every bit of it. I would love to see you build this on your own without being pressured to meet a video deadline. Just like another commenter said I'm also 65, my 👀 sight and steady hands aren't as good.

The Missouri and Enterprise are both tamaya, and the Indianapolis is ether hobby boss or academy, I have all 3 in my stash along with another 20 1/350 scale model ships, and not to mean my 1/700 scale stash I have somewhere around 450 warship kits, as well as my garage I make to build other ships currently I'm working on a 1/700 scale Pearl Harbor diorama to include all warships and harbor craft basically I'm doing the entire base

Some of the model kit by Hobby Boss is made by Trumpeter for them, I think this Ship is one of them as it use the same stand as Trumpeter's ship stand.

Skip a $309.00 car payment, and buy one. 😛. It does look like a nice kit though. Edit: that's over $100.00 per foot. 😯

If I may correct you on something, the pieces on the tree with the name plate are for the hull stiffness.

Munchkin modeling man 72 : The Tamiya Kit is more than 30 years old , it is updated but not so detailed than this one
@glenchapman3899
@glenchapman3899 Год назад
It is going to depend on your skill level, The Tamiya kit is aimed more to the market of lets try one of these things. The Hobby Boss kit is for advanced builders comfortable with lots of repetitive photo etch folding and such

@@glenchapman3899 The Original Tamiya Kits where Toys with E- Motors and Batterie boxes it was easy to convert them for Radio Control , Bismarck Missouri the whole Range was build like that . Same with the older Armor Kits they where toys in the older Kits you can see where the Batteries got connected and the slit for the on of switch.

Chris, you know the Wisconsin BB-64 was the same class of battleship. You could research the differences and make the conversions.
