Western Star died when the Constellation series started. The original western Star with the "American" cab( the same cab White Autocar Western Star and Diamond Reo's had.) Power train was a mechanical 3406B 425 HP cat 13 speed Road ranger 3:90 rears on Neway Airride 260 " wb 72" stand up sleeper 11r24.5 rubber all round. Dual stainless steel air cleaners and stacks. That's was one truck prettier than a dressed 359. Now just a rebadged freight shaker.

My uncle owned a trucking business in the 80s and always dreamed of owning a Western Star, but for some reason, leasing 3 Kenworths was cheaper.

Différent hood on a Cascadia, for having W S on grid we’ll pay the high price. Btw, hope soundproofing is improved, hope we don’t have to bring truck back to the dealership because of a sensor… truck manufacturers are loosing their identity

Nah all trucks started to suck with the Regen systems the last good modern motor was a red top N14 or a Series 60 Detroit. I avgd 6 to 8.5 mpg with those 2 motors . My '16 Cascadia with an ISX can't avg but 5.7 lifetime. I miss my '99 IHC with the red top N14. Got 6.2 lifetime avg no areodynamics running intermodal. Older is better my friend.

@@jerrykinnin7941 If older would be better, the fleets would use them. Everything under 8.0 mpg is outdated nowdays. Old rigs are noisy, the clarity is really worse, the comfort more then outdated. Comparing TCO to modern trucks old trucks are getting destroyed. Fleet Managers with their datas see everything. Comparing a W900 with a modern truck is like a test between a Motorola MicroTAC and the newest iphone....

@@honda900000 the only reason my fleet upgraded was because we can't find enough idiots that can drive a manual 10 speed. I pull Intermodal tanks and dumps local. Can't get better than 6 mpg local with a '16 automatic Cascadia. We just rebuilt the DPF system to the tune of $10000 and still have EGR issues. In '98 I had a 98 IHC prosleeper that got 6.5 mpg lifetime avg. And with my Cascadia I can only scale 47000 lbs in a 40 ft container. 46500 with a tri-axle.

European Trucks are/were legendary for their massive amounts of horsepower compared to USA Class 8s and also very competitive pride in differentiation as manufacture with Saab-Scania even offering up a massive V-8 in this Class of Vehicle. Western Stars were legendary for their ability to work well at high altitudes out Colorado Wyoming way so not sure if that has changed but always great to see an automatic transmission plus driver assistance features at last becoming standard. Having heated air brake lines made of high density actual rubber is an obvious needed change for the Industry still hasn't happened tho. In the meantime the throw down between Tesla and Nikola now well underway for those crying about the lack of anything new and that's just for Class 8 let alone for the US Truck market now.

If you could buy these in Europe specced as a 6x2 tag lift I'd go for one just to be different. With the length of it though..you'd be restricted to pulling short heavy trailers i.e. Tankers. Would be good on continental work bringing Orange juice or wine back from Spain or France.

I dont get it, how can the truck actually have EXACTLY the same steering wheel, Navigation system and speedometer as the Mercedes Actros MP5?? I had the Actros as a driving school truck here in Germany, the interior almost looks like a copy from the dashboard

Bring back my Western Star 4900 low max for car haul you idiots!!!!! This is nothing but a freightliner! The two should have never been combined! The only truck that I felt was the best car haul application is now gone (4900)! Western Star has lost its identity!
