Dennis and Julie reflect on complimenting each other, when and how to take criticism, and avoiding “always” and “never.” Today’s culture lacks nuance… very few positions in life are binary. Bad ideas prevail because the vast majority of non-evil people are weak. Other topics include: the missing tile syndrome; the Israel protests; BLM; proper grammar; TDS; micro versus macro values; private versus public speech; Talmud wisdom - a bashful person cannot learn; aphorisms; The Book of Virtues - Bill Bennett’s book amzn.to/3WwyxKj; and the poem If by Rudyard Kipling

If Dennis completely stops complimenting Julie, all of her listener fans will fill-in the void and keep the compliments flowing.

I love your talk show. Reminds me of the radio talk show in the 90’s, meaning simple the best!

As usual I enjoyed the show very much. When you were talking about saying things you believe to be true until someone or something changes your mind. When I was in my late 30s (I’m 74) I recall my late aunt who had cancer saying that she believed there was a cure for cancer but it was being somehow hidden because of some unknown reason, or at least I don’t remember what she thought the reason was and I thought she may be right. When I mentioned it to an older man he changed my mind when he said it wasn’t true because even doctors die of cancer. Shalom.

Aphorisms, sayings, idioms and proverbs are what life is all about. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Don't count your chickens before they hatch and on and on. If it can be done anytime it will be done no time, Scottish proverb but I probably didn't write it correctly.!! Thank you for the great show, I genuinely love watching. I would literally pay for a longer show, literally.

Love the show. Julie & Dennis, a suggestion.. when talking about books, can you please name the titles and the authors? For the podcast folks, we can’t tell if you don’t mention those tiny details. Thanks for what both of you are doing. Be Blessed. Eric.

Re: grammar fingernails on chalkboard: mine is people (including probably most talk show hosts) who say "person that" instead of "person who" or "person whom".

Listened to the podcast on Monday evening and heard for the first time the line about women and cigars. Tuesday morning, reading "Familiarity Breeds Content: New and Selected Essays" by Joseph Epstein, I came across a 1989 Epstein essay on smoking which refers to Kipling's poem, "Betrothed." The final lines are included: "A million surplus Maggies are willing to bear the yoke/And a woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke." It's uncanny how often this kind of thing happens.

I just read Kipling's poem "If". Interesting but I prefer the Book of Proverbs.

There is complementing and there is excessive complementing which is nauseating.

I think the issue with complementing has to do with the difference in power dyamics
