@@supermariogamer1757 doubt it. That team was specifically put together by Paul to defeat Ash’s Sinnoh team regardless of type matchups. Paul did exactly what ash would do which is disregard type matchups and changed his battle style during the battle. whereas ash just rushed in like a brute and just threw his Pokémon at Paul’s, which is what paul does. That’s why the lake aquity battle is so good. The roles were reversed.

Unpopular opinion but assuming that Paul can also Mega Evolve his Pokemon, I think he stands a chance. Alain's non-Mega Evolved Charizard is pretty darn powerful, but not to the extent of impossible to defeat. And since Ash took down Alain's team all the way The Charizard, and Ash NEARLY DEFEATED *CHAMPION* DIANTHA, we can assume that Ash isn't that much weaker than Alain, and assume that the Paul now is significantly stronger too (and do the same assumption with Gary maybe). Hence I think Paul stands a chance to win, maybe, possibly, since obviously type advantages don't matter anymore in XY (Greninja nearly wins against Gardevoir but loses against Charizard which is has a TYPE ADVANTAGE to??)

I think it comes down to between Paul and Alain.

Except he’s more rude, jaded, cynical, grumpy cold and edgier than Gary. Paul is only interested in keeping Pokémon that are already strong rather than to just train one he feels that are too weak.

I would agree with you except Chimchar being soft. Paul treated Chimchar harsher than other Pokemon including Electabuzz (though of course he still trained them harshly, to an extent) in order to activate its Blaze. Chimchar suffered abuse and insults from both Paul and his Pokemon, where they would frequently looked down on Chimchar and mocked it for being weak, useless and pathetic. Paul didn't treat his other Pokemon as terribly as Chimchar, though he still scolded them when they didn't perform up to his expectations. However, Paul is my favourite character simply for being so *different* and it's refreshing to see someone who exploits Pokemon and show the darker side of Pokemon, yet is still so realistically *us* since we do that in games as well -- looking at movepool, abilities and so forth. Also Paul has a *personality* that makes him unique, and I can understand why he believes that strength and power are the ultimate way and ACTUALLY proves it sometimes, unlike other trainers who treat them Pokemon without love and care and then lose, so Paul actually knows what he's doing. As in, for ONCE, we have a SMART, cool, "I don't care about you special snowflakes" rival lol. (Not that I hate Ash and the "twerps" but it's just nice to see a person who outright disagrees with them and proves themselves right at times.) Paul is unlikely to make a return but if he does I'll literally shriek for joy :)

Late answer but iirc it is stated since long time that in anime all regions actually have more than 8 Gym (the same way regions are filler town expanded compared to the games. The cap to reach Pokémon League is just to defeat 8 of them. Gary for exemple had some Badges Ash hadn't in the early series. At least that is how i understood it works , maybe i'm just damn wrong.

What he should have used in the Sinnoh League: - Torterra - Ursaring - Drapion - Electivire - Magmortar - Weavile With that squad, he would have crushed Ash, and would have taken out Tobias’ Darkrai. Maybe Latios as well, but he would fall to whoever the third Pokémon was.

To be fair the Pokemon on Ash's side who tanked almost everything was his Infernape. Infernape KOed HALF of Paul's team, and as much as I love Infernape, I was really hoping for a win for poor Torterra who just kept losing since evolving. Pikachu, Buizel and Gliscor (ooh my favourite Gliscor!! I wanted it to get a win too) took down one each. But yes, I would love to see Paul make a return :"( Everyone in the anime is so.... "soft" nowadays, and there's NO ONE like Paul :"(

Finally a great comment,I appreciate that in this world one think that they need to change the fucking main character,I also want a series on Tobias,he was so badass,and if they made a series on him from the start,would be great.Ash and his pikachu are so annoying.
