Actually i agree . I love Leo , he would deffo still be famous but River's talent is phenomenal . Just imagine him in Titanic . He's got a different kind of aura that always set him apart from the other actors . He's angelic , and Leonardo can't really compete
@BENDU SESAY But J Cameron wanted L Dicaprio for the role when he saw him. Even He said that he didn't want to lose him. For months asked him. And we wouldn't know, yes. But I always see/relate myself more to Dicaprio idk. And he is different than a lot of Hollywood actors for me.
Sky C J Cameron had already ended up wanting Leo for Titanic because River died. If River was alive he would have played the role ,but that would be if River wanted to do it. There were movies that he had already turned down. He was a great actor, no doubt abt it, but I heard that music was really his true passion. I like both River and Leo, but River was extraordinary. That's why between the 2 , I would choose River first. He was just sooooo talented. He was also a good musician, a poet. And his good looks, man! He was captivating
His acting style was very subtle and very real. He definitely came across as sensitive and smart in most of his work. Some critics said that you could tell he was "out of it" due to drugs in his later films. I guess the movies where he is really iconic was Stand By Me, Running On Empty, and My Own Private Idaho. Its interesting where his career could have gone, given that he'd be close to 50 if he lived. I assume his talent could have taken him to some great roles.
There are some films in the early 90s that I think were very clearly written for River right before he passed away. Titanic, Interview with a Vampire etc. - People had him in mind when writing the films. He probably would have had like half of Dicaprio's roles had he been alive today, specifically in roles like Gangs of New York, The Great Gatsby and the Departed I think he would kill. River was Hollywood's up-and-coming golden boy at the time of his stardom. They had to find a new actor to be the face of the industry when he passed, so they went after DiCaprio.
Ashley He was given a lethal cocktail, by a supposed friend. Many will have you believe River took drugs the night he died but it’s absolutely false! He necked the drink, them when he became unwell he yelled at the guy who gave it to him (John Frusciante from RHCP) ‘what the fuck did you give me?” Then it took 25 minutes before anyone called 911, and then Joaquin lied to the paramedic about about what was wrong with River. River could have been saved, that’s what hurts- according to the paramedic 😢
It is believed that Interview With the Vampire was the only firm plan River had to partake in a film after Dark Blood. He was seriously considering retiring from acting.
@@moondusk8385 it was in 88 when he was teenager. River was about to play Arthur rimbaud in total eclipsed with John Malkovich as Paul verlain, after river dead Malkovich pull out because he didn't want to play verlain without river as rimbaud, the director also pull out. And other director take over the movie then cast dicaprio as rimbaud
Koi Dumpster Girl they was together for years. they loved each other but martha was very controlling. and after he passed she stopped being vegan & said he was a pretty boy but he was fucked up. many people dislike her for that comment. although rivers friends said they think he always loved her even after his next 2 girlfriends , sue & samantha
I probably haven't even watched half as many movies with River than i should. I watched Stand by me a dozen of times. Explorers i've seen once when i was pretty much still a kid, Indiana Jones 3 and then one movie where he was a bit older. Can't remember the name or from when the movie was. But i'd seen enough to know that River Pehonix was a passionate actor. Somebody for the big stage. A actor that would not only give everything to deliver cause thats what got paid for but because this was what he loved. He loved acting. And i hate to watch a movie like stand by me and just think "that kid isn't alive anymore" when i see River in the film :(
I think the reason so many people of today’s youth like me, are able to connect with Rivers films or resonate with him and his persona is because, to us he represents the fact that often people who hurt, live shorter lives. It is also because he represents the age old idea that child actors will grow to be troubled people. It makes so much sense to me the more I think about it.
One of the greatest actors in cinema history. Rest in peace River, im glad Your my friend through Your films, music and activism. River never dies, it just keeps on flowing.
He looked like he had trauma in his childhood & it manifested in his acting. He looked lost & in need of good and enlightened people around him to love, nurture and take care of him. He didn't. Instead he had to deal with assholes all of his life.
Yes he has tragic childhood. Unprotected molested and exploited by his parents all his life, being the breadwinner since he was 5 yo. He deserves so much better
he was scheduled to play in the basketball diaries and total eclipse but both were handed to leonardo dicaprio after his death, he was also set to play in interview with the vampire, james cameron also had envisioned river as the character jack dawson for titanic, yet that role also went to leonardo dicaprio.
@@magicshopcounselling4864 I say this as a fan of Banana Fish, but also a fan of River. Stop. He is River, not Ash, and he is a real person who lived and sadly passed too young, it's disgraceful to view this incredible REAL man as an extension of a manga/anime character. I know Akimi Yoshida was inspired by River but use that as a reason to get to know who he was, what he means to the world, and to become a fan of his for HIM and his phenomenal talent.
@@eggysalad you are right❤. But before this idk about him at all but I only know his brother (joker actor).. but after knowing ash lynx are based of him, I just discover who is river phoenix and he exist too. This is the first video that I found after searching about him. I comment that without any intention to compare both of them. Just, at that moment I found this video, I only know who is ash lynx but I dont know river yet. After all, anime ash lynx has been draw a bit different and my mind only think ash as japanese not from new york so I dont see river as my ash at all. So dont worry okay🤗. Btw, I watch River movie to know about him more and you are right he is very talented❤ hope he get heaven too
Damn I remember I watched A Thing Called Love and Dogfight in the early 00 and didn’t realize until now that was fucking River Phoenix. I thought I only saw him in Explorers, Stand By Me and Running on Empty
You can see as he ages, when he becomes friends with Johnny Depp... he starts to have similar characteristics as Johnny does. He even starts talking like him a little bit.
I really loves "stad by me" and "my own private Idaho", someone know where I can find "Little nikita" or "running on empty" with subttles in english (or french/ spanish)? Im not native, so sometimesI can't understand what is being said
I guess Stand By Me, based on the Stephen King story , The Body is my favorite. Keefer Sutherland as Ace was a good choice. I like Sutherland in all his films from The Lost Boys on. He was great as Doc in the Young Guns movies too. Its tragic that River Phonex was so great as a child actor and his last films were fair but forgettable.
In 80s/early 90s river was bigger than them. He already got his Oscar and golden globe nomination at the age 18 in 1989. Got best actor from Venice film festival and critics film in 1991. He was compared to James Dean even when he was alive. River was predicted to be one of the greatest actors in the future that's why his death was such a tragic loss. Dicaprio look up to him when he was young and brat pitt said river was the best of the young guys/their generation.
People write stuff like if River had lived he'd of been bigger than Leonardo Di caprio. That's just completely obvious as he already was,as Leo idolised River if you do your research. His next role was" Interview with a vampire". He'd already said yes to working with Tom Cruise an another actor who idolised him was Brad Pitt .he was going to play the Christian Slater role...you can see in the way Christian had his hair he was trying to be just like River. But River actually only planned to do 2 more pictures after Interview with a vampire this is wat he told his girlfriend Samantha maths at the time. all he wanted was to secure his youngest sister a place in college. River had lots of demons and supported his family from an early age..he was our generations "James Dean" ...He would if he'd kept acting been way bigger than Leo and Brad Pitt..he was mesmerising on screen an to make a film with Gus Van sant "My own private Idaho" about a young boys getting paid to sleep with old men an woman, dealing with Narcolepsy too was probably the boldest choice in Hollywood history especially in the early 90s .But to River these are the type of roles he relished an he was phenomenal in it like everything he was in...I remember I was 15 in 93 an you could tell River was using heroin by the way his face was changing an how much weight he'd lost . He also used Valium an smoked pot .but people have to stop an think of everything this boy had gone threw , the cults his parents had them in living on the street .before River ever acted he would play his guitar on the street all day to raise money at the ages of 9 & 10 to feed his family who had no home or jobs...I can relate an I too have taken the same drugs to self medicate to turn the switch of that haunts you every day .some people are just druggies but some people you have to look into there situations. He was an still is the greatest actor of his generation an I think he wouldn't of gone on to do big budget movies , he'd of done a few here an there but he was an artist in his craft an I think he relished in independent movies were he was testing himself to the limit .I think him along side johnny Depp in Fear an loathing in Las Vegas would of been a perfect movie!! He was such a legend an a huge loss!!
I want to see my private Idaho I cant find it on Netflix. 😔 he was a great actor. So young and beautiful.. Honey you feeling sad🥺😔I'm sorry. Hugs ok. Think about the good.and the best feeling s then you will smile. Question was he a jealous person?😁😘🌸🌸🥰⭐⭐
No último filme: cabelo muito curto, expressão cadavérica. Meu Deus... o que as drogas não fazem de mal com as pessoas??? Principalmente as drogas pesadas.
when you realize that he was in a movie in 1994 and he died in 1993. edit: this is a joke btw. they probably filmed it in 1992 or 1993 and then published it in 1994.
I never knew bout Silent Tonque.I thought Dark blood was the film he didn't finish ,cause he died in Oct. of 1993.When was silent tonque filmed? It said in here 1994.
