Honestly this role definitely won Lillard his following role as Stu Macher in Scream You can clearly see the origins of Stu brewing in this character he plays in Animal room, somewhat shakespearean When really it all comes down to is its simply Matthew being the great actor that he is
ngl, his character is terriying. but why is he so gentle and seemingly kind when interacting with kids? like 7:05 and 33:40. hes literally a sociopath, violent and vile, and yet when he's interacting with a young child he's always gentle, kind, quiet. it just makes his character that much more interesting to me
I think it's because (and this is just my silly opinion), he is a kid himself? He was bullied too, and he seems to not have a family paying attention to him, maybe he never had it? Rich kid growing up alone in a big house, lots of entitlement and anger, he got attention by being bad. He was depressed and psychotic, wanting to hurt and get hurt to feel some relieve? Like Mosk with the drugs. (I've been wanting to discuss this movie with someone but none of my friends care to watch it, lmao)
@@iggyvci0us that’s a really interesting theory! i like that a lot. that makes a lot of sense. he feels betrayed and ignored so he takes it out on others. and yeah i totally understand, none of mine do either 😭
@@Grey_di.ant_420 Like, I know it's supposed to be a retelling of A Clockwork Orange, but I don't think he is anything like Alex Delarge. Alex to me was a cowardly, antisocial and oportunistic little prick that always escaped consequences; whereas Doug was hurt and lost, and actually seeking painful or definitive consequences (he asks for death every chance he gets), and felt reassured that everything was bad and pointless when people just let themselves be poisoned by his anger (Mosk turned violent, Shelly gave up her family to be harrassed, the bald guy's dad took a life) and instead of actually trying to help they just pushed him/them further away (into madness). I think those interactions with kids are just to show that there was hope, but nobody cared enough to help him (or them, actually, bc it took a tragedy for someone to actually step up for Mosk 😅) Long text, sorry. I needed to get that off my chest🙈
@@iggyvci0us i really like that, omg. i never thought about that before. i didn’t realize it was a retelling, i’m glad i know now! i think you’re right. it’s not like he tries to hide what he does, he actively seeks death, which is another thing i find interesting. i think it’s interesting to see that softer side of him, that maybe he isn’t all bad, just for it to slowly fade away until there isn’t much if anything redeemable about him and no worries i totally understand. i like how you think!
okay but 5:30. i don’t know why, but i love this. maybe it’s seeing lillard playing someone so angry and violent. he always gives it his all, i love it
