One of my favourite tricks in Serato DJ is the lead-in feature. This can be really helpful when transitioning between hard to mix songs. Radio edits or hip hop tracks can sometimes just start with a vocal and no intro to use. This trick will help you master those transitions to help you confidently play to any crowd.

I'm using similar procedure, but with looping of the first bar (or more) to match the beat. It's quicker than jumping back, see this: 1. load new track, 2. activate loop, 3 start playing, 4. in moment of transition switch off looping.
@tankerock
@tankerock 3 года назад
Yeah thats what I do too.. I loop the first 16 or 32 bars of the next song, beat match it. Adjust levels in my headphones and turn off loop when I'm ready to use it. Then I'll either, (1) lower the levels of the first track as the 2nd one is coming in (2) cross fade (3) echo out the first track
@benpedro6099

Yeah this looks like a faff, I loop too

id also say it's good for in the moment corrections. say you're bringing in a track (or want to repeat a chorus), but wish it was 4 bars back and you hadn't set a loop or que point.

This is so simple but so genius. In all the DJ lessons I’ve had and all the DJs I’ve played alongside I’ve never seen this nor been showed this. It’s so good for hip hop and pop tracks

I do a similar thing, but I scratch it in Lol. Most of the songs I play are like 80-110, very different style. I’m more of a party rock/ battle DJ and been DJing for 8 years and still love watching these. Keep up the great work.

I literally have been doing this in Traktor with my S4 for 3 years. Competitors finally adding a feature that's been around for 10+ years! Great job explaining it to people who may have never had a feature like this before though, it's way too useful of a technique in DJing.

Excellent technique, all though my personal feelings are DJ tutorials focus too much on using edited tracks with long intros. I feel this way because I have been djing since 1983 & we didn't have such creative control over a track as you do with the most simplest digital track. I learned to be creative with what I was given on a record, tape, or CD lol. I never have a problem blending or mixing any track or genre. With that said I love learning new creative ideas & this is the reason I subscribe to your channel. I look to you and a hand full of other you-tube djers because I respect your opinion & like today actually learn useful new techniques. Bravo sir I like this & will always follow you to enhance my journey as a DJ. (just as a note I've been a resident dj since 2009 every fri & sat. I also dj on Monday's & Thursdays during this same time period.)

have a question. I use a DDJ-SX2 linked through my iMac and using Serato. For the last few months, I have been experiencing sound dropouts. The player continues to play but the sound drops for a second then comes back where it should have been. This also happens when using Djay Pro over the same system.
