I love how they manage to make them all so different style wise (the Squid Sisters being your typical idol maybe J-pop duo, Off The Hook giving a more modern vibe with Pop & Rap, and now Deep Cut giving fusion group vibes). Also this style reflects in all the songs and they are all such BANGERS even if it’s gibberish
Squid Sisters were J-Pop, Off the Hook was English pop, Deep Cut appears to be... their own thing (because chaos lol), but a fusion of traditional music with pop vibes and I love them
It's really amusing seeing people complaining about Frye's design the exact way people complained about Pearl's design when she was first revealed. Pearl is now super beloved, I'm sure the same will happen with Frye.
To be fair, I think all three idols fulfill a trend of media in Japan. With Frye, the typical "Mo'" Look. With Shiver, the Fox Eye look. And finally with Big Man, the classical Mascot look, like Kumamon. Although, this doesn't mean that Big Man is a costume. He just... sorta resembles one.
I instantly liked Frye. Her design is giving me Thai vibes especially with how she dances. I also see the kabuki inspiration and the Japanese “wild” style.
I also love how ambiguous Frye and Shiver's appearances are, in the way that they don't look fully Inkling or fully Octoling. Like after the events of Octo Expansion, Octoling and Inklings cultures, styles, and appearances all kinda fused together like a true melting pot
If I hadn't read the wiki I wouldn't have known that Shiver was an Octoling, she looks very neutral just like Frye, that makes them special in my opinion
shiver doesn't seem to have the eye markings of either inklings or octolings. they honestly hit an uncanny valley, with the red blushing and lack of eye markings. the only thing signifying that they aren't human is their hair.
Has anyone realized that Frye may not be an inkling OR an octoling? Frye doesn’t have suction cups on her hair (not on the inside nor on the outside), her ears are different from octoling and inkling ears, and her eyes/eyelashes are very unique! Could this be a new species?
My favorite part about the 3 groups is that it’s ridiculously hard to hate them. Each group has their own strengths and niches that they fit *perfectly* so choosing a favorite comes down to personal preference instead of who’s objectively the best.
You got a good point out of all the games and new idols they made None of them feel like there badly designed or hated and there all very unique to there theme
I love the difference between deep cut and the other idol groups I love off the hook and squid sisters but they're pretty mainstream esque, not a bad thing but I love how the chaos (which isn't shown to be a bad thing in the new game so far atm) can cause beautiful new kinds of things Deep cut feels like they're unapologetically themselves, not caring about what the corporate world wants. Fuck the rich, they're making a Japanese, Indian, Brazilian esque song and it's gonna be awesome Also their styles, gosh I want it
Something thats been on my mind for a long time since playing splatoon 1 is that the animations for the hands for each game just get better and better. Like, its a weird detail to point out, but the Squid Sisters always felt a little weird when dancing because their hands were always so clunky and never seemed to move much when the rest of them did, or looked like they held no weight at all when resting on their sides or such. Off The Hook were much more expressive with their hands when dancing, especially Pearl, and were a lot more believeable in weight, though some parts of their animations were still a little clunky. Deep Cut, however, are absolutely fantastic looking! Their animations look perfect, expressive, and super well done, and it's really cool to see just how much the developers and artists have grown since Splat1.
The idol designs have come such a long way since the first game. I do like the Squid Sisters, but they felt too similar appearance-wise. I adored Off the Hook and became more attached to them because of their uniqueness. Deep Cut’s designs feel the most creative yet and I can’t wait to find out more about their personalities in-game. Off the Hook will always have a special place in my heart, but I’m really excited about the new reveal and I’m as pumped as ever for Splatoon 3. Bring it! Also, Anarchy Rainbow is already my favourite Splatfest concert song of the three! 😁
Agreed, city of color is great but color pulse is a little boring and basic for off the hooks songs. Anarchy rainbow makes you feel the hype of a splatfest
sameeee, i love off the hook and i feel like ive bonded a lot with them through the dlc as well, and if they're in that new dlc like the silhouettes suggest then ill be very happy
For me the Squid Sisters (as a german, I know them as the Sea Sirens) will always be the best Inkopolis Duo. Calamari Inkantation is a class for itself. But Anarchy Rainbows truelly sound epic.
@@little_creecher Theyre called „Aioli“ and „Limone“ for some reason tho…….. Limone I get but Aioli is literally just a sauce 😦 edit: (the squid sisters i mean)
I like that Splatoon 3 is finally showing growth of society. In Splatoon 1 octolings were discriminated underground but they now live peacefully with inklings, now some mysterious species might be revealed, the new idol shiver appears to be neither inking nor octoling, and there is probably lore behind her species
Some people say that Frye doesn't look like neither an inkling or octoling either. New species perhaps? Guess we'll have to find out when we all get to play the game.
@@cbsyll that could be a possibility as well. I mean the game is about sea creatures of all kinds over ruling the lands, I wouldn't be surprised if a cuttling exists in the world of Splatoon
So every idol has some kind of head ornament. Calli and Marie wear ikayaki and raw calamari ring respectively, both popular dishes to prepare squid into. Pearl has a Crown and Marina has her Headphones, like how stereotypically rappers have their bling and DJs have headphones. Pearl's crown could also be a reference to the fact she's rich. Frye is wearing what looks like, a fried calamari ring, maybe she's a Calli Mari fan. It could also be a scrunchie so bonus points for that sporty feel. Shiver is wearing a mix between sake cup and hachimachi. Really leaning into the Yakuza/Japanese Delinquent vibe she's trying to pull. I have no clue what Big Man is wearing though, but ay it looks good.
I’m not sure of the exact name, but I’m pretty sure big man’s wearing a hibachi chef hat!! Also- thank god for your notes too- it’s super fun to learn the little design details from someone who knows more!!
I love how Shiver looks elegant and sort of villainous with her sharp eyes, and how Frye looks like she’s about to explode with chaotic energy and the contrast gives me life Also what is there to say for big man he speaks for himself
@@stoneofsteel6579 bro literally nobody cares about your teachers pet response, literally had one misspelling. this isnt ELA class, this is youtube. 💀💀💀
It's funny how these reveals change each game. Splatoon 1- A very janky dance that was probably early in their early studio. Splatoon 2- Shows em just dancing while in the square instead of a random area like Splatoon 1s. Splatoon 3- Has an animated intro and shows em dancing in the new hub area. Love the evolution of the reveals.
Im sorry Fly Octo Fly and but Anarchy Rainbow has now taken second best spot of Splatoon songs. Calamari Inkantation will forever stay the first. It is THE Splatoon song
Deep Cut Is So True To The Chaos Style and I love the Culture Nintendo put into it. I don't know why everyone's saying Frye's design is bad. I personally think Deep Cut has some of the best Idol/character designs. Also The New Idol Song Is amazing. Prove me wrong. You cant Edit: I didn't Mean For anyone In the comments To Start Beef Or Whatever But You Do You LOL And Thanks Sm For The Likes
Okay then, here are the only problems I have with the new Idol designs (-big man) Frye- I don’t mind the forehead, it’s the eyes that put me off. And her costume is *kinda* bland, not much color. Shiver- again, the eyes, but more creep factor. Costume is gud tho. Edit: Didn’t realize I was using twitter today
They’re going to pop up in that dlc, you could see the shadows, don’t worry! The squid sisters popped up in splatoon 2 so pearl and marina will be in this game as well!!
I’m gonna call it, the final splatfest for 3 is going to be a against all the idols. Squid sister vs. off the hook vs. deep cuts. I’ve been thinking it since the reveal trailer dropped amd all the numbers just add up, which is 3.
That does make me realize that, in the lore of the game, a splatfest is partially an excuse to officiate that one thing is better than another, so if such a splatfest happens, by the end of it, one group is going to be considered the best of them all. That’s gonna be a tough choice.
@@TuxPeng or a cameo on the broadcast, like off the hook hacking into the broadcast like they do in octo expansion, and squid sisters busting into the studio brute force or smth idk 💀 and they all have their own teams
@Bubble The direct DID mention a that there’s going to be a DLC, and it has Off the Hook’s silhouettes, so they might either beck be available after completing it, or we might just see them in the story I would really love to see what Marina’s galaxy hair looks like in the game
You can say anything you want about Frye's head design, but I believe her main design is based on Arabic Belly Dancers. If I'm correct, and please if any arabic people can vouch for me, I can hear a Mizmar (arabic wind instrument) in the song. I really love her design tbh.
I'm not arab, nor am I an expert in any of this, but the music here is a combination of traditional Japanese music and Brazilian Samba. Given the Japanese influence on Shiver, we might want to consider if there is some Brazilian influence for Frye? I've also seen people state she has some Indian influence. I'm curious to see if we'll be able to find development notes about this in the future! I also love Frye's design a lot, including her head. I think she's really cute.
what amazes me is how the scale gets bigger as the games do. the first idol introduction was a casual “here’s the idol group, look at them sing” that wasn’t touched on for more than some seconds with overall basic visuals. by splatoon 2, idols were known, and the next reveal served as an introduction to the change in musical style and personality that the game had. and now, after 2 huge successes, splatoon 3 has the ball fully rolling with this amazing reveal that thousands of people are hyping over days later
From Pop Star Idol (Squid Sisters), to Modern Rap now it's Japanese Culture(Deep Cut). Seems like were embracing tradition with Chaos Theme on this really shows how far it has been
I think its more a chaotic agglomeration of cultures , like there's the odori japanese dance and so japanese like scenery but theres also instrument reminiscing of Brazilian samba carnival, south asia too ! I like to think since they are soo unique they are the fusion of Chinese/japanese vibes (shiver) and afro-brazillian vibes (Frye).
We’ve gone from cousins with a bond like sisters, an inkling princess rapper and her octoling DJ mermaid friend to a vibrant inkling Bollywood dancer, an octoling geisha and a BIG MAN… ta ray
I absolutely love how Frye threw the mask to show how she's like a chaotic gremlin and you can hear the mask hit the ground, and in contrast, Shiver swiftly went from holding a mask to a hand fan while keeping a noble-ish pose to show she's kind of the opposite to frye, Shiver's properness to Frye's chaoticness is so much fun. And big man is big man, we all love him regardless
I didn't know that the Japanese and English versions had different names! Squid Sisters ↓ Shio colors Callie→Aori Marie→Hotaru Off the Hook ↓ Tentacles Marina→Iida Pearl→Hime Deep Cut ↓ Surimi Rengo Frye→Utsuho Shiver→Fuuka Big Man→Mantaro
Such a fun trip down memory lane- Splatoon’s music has been the source of so many great memories, and I know for sure that Splatoon 3 will make many more!
I like how they've gone with different music styles (and just styles in general) over the course of the games- Splat1 was a sort traditional bubbly pop and electronic music with a big Tokyo city like feel, Splat2 was a little electro, but also had rap and hip hop elements and a more New York city like feel, and now Splat3 has more traditional Japanese music combined with an almost slums like city, like places you might find in the south of the US
They're all certainly distinctive from each other in regards of... everything really I just want the squid sisters to stay relevant now that there's even more idols, but it seems they play a bigger role in the story so I'm optimistic about it Also, deep cut is cool as a group and all, but big man... he's the character ever
Fun fact about deep cut! A big group of sharks is called a shiver! And a big group of eels is called a frye! If you look at their masks you can see if right there!
As the series goes am, I hope they never forget the Squid Sisters. I love Off the Hook as they made the big step up to S2, but I will never forget the moments I helped win the Finalfest for Marie & the devastation of losing to Chaos in both games.
Off the hook will always be my favorite idol group. But I absolutely love shiver there is an elegance to her design that you don’t see in the other characters.
The new town square no longer looks safe to live in lol but it does look like a fun time I dream of an event where the last two duo's get a tour of the place by Deep Cut
All of the Splatfests are amazing!!!! But I have to say that I am absolutely in love with Shiver, Frye, and Big Man's version of a Splatfest! It's chaotic and full of energy giving the new battle mechanic. But I love the new song Anarchy Rainbow because it seems like a song that brings everybody together and everyone sing together! It's also full of inspirations from different cultures which I love and appreciate it! I'm glad they went this route for chaos instead of typical heavy metal and rock chaos
Seeing how far these games have come when you skip from the squid sisters straight to deep cut it just absolutely amazing. Nintendo has mastered creating the most amazing atmosphere for festivals over the years
Watching the first performance of the squid sisters reminds that we grow up with them and now with a wave good bye we can appreciate them for all they have done for inkling culture and our very way of life.
is it just me or Frye looks like she takes some inspiration from the goofy looking octopus that has googly eyes in the deep sea, It's a small octopus and her "hair" is also short and she don't really have suction cup like everyone do
