I remember being in 3rd grade singing this along with Yellow Submarine with my friends. It was already sad to look back on knowing I wouldn't experience that again, but Steve's death makes it even more melancholic. All we can do is pay our respects, mourn, and go on with our lives. Dang, never thought I'd cry to Smash Mouth.
When me and my friends were in elementary school, I remember we performed "I'm A Believer" in front of my art class because we were all Shrek fans and loved Smash Mouth's version of the song, partially because Steve had such an iconic voice. RIP to the original All-Star
Smash Mouth was always a bit salty that this is what they were known for; the Shrek band. But I find that unfortunate, because despite that silly exterior, I think I can speak for most when I say that Shrek, and its opening with All-Star, is a genuinely enjoyable and legendary experience, one that wouldn't have been as good without All-Star. People act silly about it because Shrek is silly, but theres also a genuine love there, too. I hope they made peace with this "fate" eventually. In any case, this is a call for all of you to check out some other Smash Mouth tracks. I really like their rendition of "Why Can't We Be Friends", and I think the way the music video and lyrics spin it into that purposefully-superficial feel that All-Star exhibits is really cool.
Kinda odd that it became so associated with Shrek tbh. All Star was in every movie back then. But hey both are timeless masterpieces at this point so I'm not complaining.
The first Shrek movie release on the exact day I was born, and even to this day I really enjoy this movie, and even more so, I love Steve's voice. I'm so sad he's gone, but I'll always remember him and continue to listen to his music. Rest well big guy
I was 5 when the movie came out and I always saw trailers for it in Daycare always wanting to watch it. I eventually got to watching it in 2009, and again in 2011, and again in 2016. And I’m watching it now that he has passed…
Damn bro I remember when I was about 8 years old I had plastic guitar that would always play this song out of a crappy little speaker. I had every single word memorized and I still do. This cover had me shedding tears man. Thanks for another amazing cover billy ❤ RIP Steve ❤❤❤
Yeah, my first Smash Mouth Song was I'm A Believer, and since Shrek, I actually looked into the band later. Damn good stuff, one of my favorites is Walkin' On The Sun.
@@okjeffy6581 Yeah, I just listened to the Fush Yu Mang album again. I never realized just how good it is, like half the songs were great! I didn't like a couple, happens but I only listened to it once before
I could never believe that one day litsening to All Star could make me feel...depressed, thanks for all the great music you did Steve Harwell, if we ever see a shooting star, we will think of you
i remember all my younger years were all star and im a believer, i loved shrek with its great soundtrack and it made me listen to all their stuff and this is truly heartbreaking to hear, love my man steve, fly on you shooting star i know this was personal but thank you for reading if you did. R.I.P Steve Harwell
smash mouth was kind the music of my childhood, so the news plus this tribute turned me into a human waterfall haha ^^" Good job Billy RIP Steve Harwell, you were quite the all-star
I can't believe this cover is how I found out he fucking died Rest in peace, Rock Star. You got the show on, and you got paid. I hope you glitter like gold in Heaven.
Rest in peace You Rockstar Thank U for making so many childhoods with your music Shrek would have felt way different without your music now its gonna feel different
Real talk - to most 90s kids, All Star was THE song of our childhood. It was one of the first songs I downloaded and because I didn't have many songs downloaded at the time, I listened to it pretty much on repeat. Beautiful tribute, Billy.
Here's to you, Steve Harwell. You were a real one. Shrek for all its dumb hype was a great movie, and your music was fantastic. Another All Star, taken from us too soon.
I didn't think that this video randomly popping up in my recommendation, would be how I found out this legend has passed away. My favorite song by Smash Mouth is "Pacific Coast Party", because it was part of the soundtrack for Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure (a game from my childhood)
Obrigado Steve por nos presentear com esta pérola. Aqui três gerações puderam curtir seu trabalho. Shrek jamais seria o mesmo sem esta música. Descanse em páz 🙏
To think, that I sang that song during karaoke last Friday and now he's dead. Damn. RIP to a legend. Going to have to practice more Smash Mouth for next week.
I blasted this song on the gym hall's speakers the day of my graduation, everyone was well dressed and had pretencious looks all over, and there i was, wearin' a shirt full o' holes and bleached pants hey now, i was a rockstar, only for a beautiful moment. Thank you forever Steve!
I listened to All Star for a few days in a row these past few days. I had no clue Steve was sick or that he was gone (which I just found out now from you). What an eerie coincidence May he rest in peace
I know that he actively got upset with this song becoming a meme and even refused to play it at all sometimes at shows.. Though idk if he really saw how much more powerful and spread-out to so many more people it became BECAUSE of that. How many people he made laugh even if he didn't mean to, or smiles he got from people having a bad day, just over an upbeat song being turned a little funny with some edits. I don't know if he realized it by the end but he probably made so many happy in ways he never could have imagined when originally writing this but it DID make so many of us happy, and it was sad to see this show up today as I didn't get the news from any other source and I haven't looked into anything yet so I may be speaking without enough knowledge of the situation.. I just hope that he knew we were never laughing AT Steve, we were laughing with him, because of him, I hope he rests in peace. Much love, stay safe everyone~
This song made me aware he died had to look it up to belive it part of me still can't in all honesty.I genuinely loved Smash Mouth and a big part of it were his vocals RIP you absolut icon.
@@okjeffy6581 The dudes like 93 his death would be less surpriseing then Steves. That's assuming of course that Clint Eastwood isn't and immortal timeless being.
