Go bold or go home! My husband and I have said that phrase to each other at least 50 times over the last few months as we made the decision to do our 32' x 40' pole barn in all textured black. Roof, trim, walls, gutters and downspouts. Have I second guessed myself a couple times during the decision-making process? I'd be lying if I didn't say yes. Yes, we talked about backing off a bit and going with a dark brown, or dark grey. But the dark brown selection wasn't even as dark as our shed that we loved painted in a deep dark blackish brown. I visited The House of Seven Gables many years ago and fell head over heels for the dark moody black paint. While it is often used on modern structures today, the color black is actually a paint color rich with history and rooted in our American architecture. Between the gorgeous black tobacco barns of the south, and the barns that turned black from distilling alcohol, the color is as much a part of our history as a red barn. Just a bit less common these days. Our historic cape cod inspired home is sided in all white, and we've always leaned toward a peaceful calmness on our 5+ acres here at The Cape on the Corner at Tweedthistle Farms. While the color black may be considered bold, I think we achieved a harmonious blend of the barn with the house. It was important to me, that the doors, hand built right here on site be wooden, and will be stained a warm honey color to warm up the black of the barn.
Hello prim friends! My name is Gabriella Moir and welcome to our channel The Cape on the Corner at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives that also go well in farmhouse decor and decorating. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. In the growing season we'll be starting a kitchen herb garden and so much more. Keep watching!
