I'm here for Binti. Great short and concise review for each book in this great list! I have also exceeded my target of 48 for 2021 but I was able to finish 101. Cheers, Iasmina! 😍🤓🥰
Making my way through Way of Kings as we speak and the size of those books is pretty intimidating 😅 I've said it on one of your other videos but the Nightingale is now on my TBR together with the Book Thief (I think you recommended that one as well together with All the Light we Cannot See but I already read the latter and loved it!) Good luck with your reading and writing goals in 2022!
Yup, and they only get bigger 😅 Awesome, hope you end up liking those books when you get to them. And thanks, good luck with your reading goals this year too! Looking forward to your thoughts, I always add at least one book you talk about to my TBR each video 😊.
I get a bit of a chuckle everytime you start talking about a book you didn't enjoy. Your expressions goes from sweet, full of joy to like taking a teaspoon from the worst tasting medicine. 😂 But congrats on beating your goal of 50 books! I wish I could read as much as you. Truly inspirational! 👋👋🤓
I really do try to be as diplomatic as possible when it comes to books I didn't like, but I guess it doesn't always work out that way and my facial expressions betray me 😅
Congrats on reading 50 books! 2021 was my best reading year as well :) I was relieved to see your thoughts on the Last Graduate, because I was also a fan of the premise and couldn't understand why I didn't like the second book and wondered if it was just me.. My favourite books this year were Seven Days in June and Persuasion
I've been pretty vocal about not liking the first two books in that series, actually, and there were definitely others who agreed with me 😅. Seven Days in June sounds pretty good, might have to check that out myself!
2021 was a great reading year for me as well. I read 46 books and surpassed my challenge of 30. In 2021, I read Crime and Punishment, The Catcher in the Rye, Salem lot, Carrie, more Stephen King but this year I want to read more fantasy. Great video, by the way.
I love the slow burn and gothic ambiance of Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian. It's been a favourite book of mine for years. Is it slow? Sure. But for a first novel I was impressed. Maybe not Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell-level impressed, but I loved it just the same. I've been on a research binge over the last year but, once I'm caught up, I'm going to take you up on the Skyward recommendation. Also, still waiting on your verdict about The Starless Sea. No rush. Take your time.
I was just a bit disappointed overall with The Historian, though there were lots of elements in there that I loved as well. I am planning to read The Starless Sea this year, but we'll see 😅
I didn't really set a reading goal but wanted to read about as much as I did in 2020. In 2020 I read 20 books and this year 16, which is a lot for my doing. Favorites on the top of my head where Coraline by Neil Gaiman, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon and Red Dragon (the first Hannibal Lecter novel) by Thomas Harris. I also read some comics with my favorites being a reread of From Hell by Alan Moore. another favorite was a series called Sex Criminals, this is a very weird romance/comedy book that has to be read to be understood. 10/10 probably going to reread this or next year.
Set a reading goal of 40 this past year, only made it to like 35, unfortunately. Mainly read nonfiction this last year, most of it research for my own stories, which tend to be sci-fi or historical fiction (just finished a book on the French revolution and another on social media protests). I'm having this weird problem where I don't have much time to read for fun, just getting the background for everything I want to write, haha. Don't know if you've ever had that issue or know how to balance it? I did read a few good fiction books in 2021 though. Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary was just fantastic. You've mentioned loving The Martian before, so you've got to read it. The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson is pretty good too. Going to have to take you up on your recs for Dowry of Blood and Skyward, will let you know what I think whenever I can squeeze in time between all the projects, haha.
I definitely struggle with balancing reading with writing and all my other hobbies and obligations. But in terms of reading and writing, I find that I need to always be reading something to fuel my inspiration for writing. Not necessarily one to one, for example when I'm working on my contemporary books, I usually like to read fantasy, and vice versa. It keeps my motivation going in some way. And yeah then sometimes I will need to read some craft book, but that serves almost the same purpose, as I get inspired to write and learn something new about writing in the process. So it all fuels back into it. Will definitely make a video on this topic at some point, as I know other writers struggle with this, and maybe I can help reassure someone that it's totally normal.
@@IasminaEdina Thanks so much for sharing your perspective on this, does help to hear that others have similar issues. I'll look forward to that video!
