I assigned The Man in the Brown Suit for my daughter because it’s my favorite. After she finished it she said, “I need more books like this!” She is now a new Christie lover.

I can totally understand the weird reading time when you have a lot on your mind! I hope things settle down for you guys. Listing a house sounds like so much work.. I hope it sells quickly for you guys!

I so enjoyed Understood Betsy when I read it a couple of years ago, and I can't wait to read it again with my next AO yr 2 student. 😊 The Man in the Brown Suit sounds really fun!

My reading was up and down and slow and weird in March too so you’re not alone. Thankfully I read mostly four star books, so that’s something. 😂

My daughter and I buddy read (listened to the audiobook) song for a whale in March, and we both loved it! It was so good! I am so amazed by people who are blind and how much they can do without their vision. I also started following this girl on Instagram who is blind and read the bible in Braille, and she learned how to ride a bike! So inspiring!

my favorite part of Understood Betsy is when she gets to school and "doesn't know what grade she's in." That was so funny. And so wise, too. I had your opposite month. A couple of slow months in the beginning of the year and then a great, packed one in March.

A couple of my favorite March reads: "Jane in Love' by Rachel Givney ... thoroughly enjoyed this one, and about 50 pages from finishing 'The Ringmaster's Wife' by Kristy Cambron.

It has taken me all April long to finish this video!!!! But, I have had a very "FULL" month. We had several church events in a row, our Co-op community wrapped up the year, we got sick, and then trying to dig back into schooling...all that said...going back to March, I had some really good reads: 1. "Dune Messiah" by Frank Herbert// I have read this before and I didn't like it. But, on my second read of it, I Loved it!!! This is the sequel to "Dune". The characters are definitely the focus and you see their complexities. So 5 stars. 2. "The Mystery at Lilac Inn" by Carolyn Keene. I haven't read Nancy Drew in an age and a half but you know "Middle grade March". This surprised me with being really good 👍 also 5 stars 3. "The Year of Miss Agnes" by Kirkpatrick Hill// This was short, sweet, touching, and I enjoyed seeing a lifestyle different from my own. I enjoyed seeing the children being filled with wonder. >>> 5 stars 5. "The Lines Between Us" by Amy Lynn Green// read this for the dual POV prompt on the Montgomery side of Chantel's RYBC // I was happily surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I often feel the WW1/WW2 themes for historical fiction are overdone and I wish authors would pick a different time period to write about BUT this came at it from an angle I had not read before AND was set in my home state ❤. I thought it was well written and I did not see the ending coming. 5 stars Those were the best of my March reads. I think I DNFed three books and read 16 overall (a good deal of Manga).

Song for a Whale sounds right up my alley. I took 3 semesters of ASL in college, and I'm always looking for books with good deaf representation. My two favorite books from March were the second book in the Temeraire series and The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip (thank you for that recommendation btw, even though I was bawling my eyes out by the end!)

I started Come, Tell Me How You Live by Agatha Christie. It's autobiographical. The first chapter is really funny, and she has some witty bits in the other chapters. I'm really enjoying it, so far. Sounds like you need to read a Mrs. Pollifax to help you enjoy reading again 😉

Since you liked Song for a Whale, you might be interested in Lynne Kelly's newest middle grade book called The Secret Language of Birds.

I agree with your feelings about Spinning Silver. I didn’t connect with the author’s writing style either. I also tried Uprooted and didn’t like that one either. I tried, though. 😅

I listened to A light between worlds by Laura Weymouth after you talked about it last month. I loved it! 5 stars My favorite middle grade of the month was The Last Mapmaker by Christina Soontornvat.

Another middle grade I listened to was The Beast and the Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips. It was good and I found it quite funny. Reminded me of a Roald Dahl book. Might be something your son may like, my boys are listening to it now.

I have had that same feeling for the last 2 Months. We have been doing renovations in the whole house, and I have zero mental space for reading. The only reading I have done is via audible, and that has been very minimal.

I started A Bridge Across the Ocean once and quit, too. I put it aside, hoping it was a mood reading issue. I have yet to want to pick it up again and that was probably 2 years ago. Maybe I should just let it go... 😊

What did you think of the mom in the book of lost names? I felt really bad for her. I admire what Eva was doing but she did it at her mom’s detriment. She kept saying no and Eva just kept on going. I know I’m maybe supposed to see her as selfish but I feel like you can do dangerous things if you’re alone. Her mom didn’t consent to being endangered. So I was frankly mad at eva
