If you want more line inputs you can use an NSB stage box as these are all combo jacks. It connects over AVB so is more complex to set up at first but is a great alternative if you want more line ins.
Like the honesty! Has the 16 been upgraded as well? Trying to save a few bucks I got the ar16c the other day, as I was told it was a DAW controller. I don't always think "Nerd"!🤪
Hello, I own a Behringer P16M and am about to purchase a mixer. I would like to know if I can connect the Presonus with my Behringer? Like the Behringer X32 does. I understand that maybe the way is different, but is this possible? Through the ethernet of the Presonus or the AVB output? Thanks a lot.
Hi Joe. Thanks for the nice videos. I have a SL32S and just got the Eventide H9000R. Is there a way of using the H9000R as effect insert for the SL32S? What would be your way of connecting these two devices and having the most of them?
Thank you Joe. I was considering getting the StudioLive 32 mixer and thanks to this video I realized it didn't have inserts. I'm currently looking into other options...maybe a Faderport 16 for DAW control and using a Studio 192/ DP88 setup.
I've saved pictures of the rear panels of my gear onto my desktop for a while now. It just makes life easier. I used to use a lot of the various inputs on my old 16.4.2 series 1. Now that I have the 32SC, I'm having to figure out how to get my with less line inputs. I'm thinking about going with direct boxes. I have several stereo keyboards that all have line outs. More than I have inputs.

Can I use the Aux input to hook up my Roland Fantom? I have the 32sc and I have 8 inputs running into my mpc I want to play the keyboard without tuning on the mpc, can someone help me?
That is interesting, because the rack mixer is all combi jacks. According to the literature, using the xlr goes to the mic pre, while using the TRS/TS bypasses the mic pre and hits the convertor.

Bummer most of these are 4 years ago… but i just ordered the 32SX unit comes Wednesday MAY 3 2023- did i buy the wrong console?? Hope i don’t have to wait 5 years for an answer 🤔🤔🤔🫣🙁
Hi Joe, thanks so much for all your time and hard work. Not being able to add external compressors would be a deal breaker for me, but, being as seemingly any in or out can be patched, could i not use a mix out (xlr) to send to the comp and return through a line in, patching back onto the channel it went out on? At what stage could i take it out and at what stage could i bring it back in? Thanks Brian
Hey Brian...Yeah if you're wanting to patch after the preamp you'd have to do some tricky routing that probably wouldn't be worth it. I only use it in the studio. I really only use one outboard comp, and it's built into my preamp so I just run there first. You could always patch an external preamp into the compressor, then into the console...
What level should I put my Main L+R outputs in? I'm trying so hard to fins a good balance (between this, mic gains & speakers gains) but it's really difficult..

I have one question regarding the line inputs: The line ins are only the combo jacks in the second row...is it also possible to record line in signals throught the aux inputs? Hi Joe. I have a Focusrite 18i20 and it has a word clock out port. I'd like to make this my master and run a cable from this to my outboard piece of gear(if it's necessary). I have an Aphex Porject Channel and an ART Voice Channel. The Project channel only has SPDIF out for it's digital signal, which can be set from 44.1k - 96k. However... the Voice Channel has a word clock Input and Through hookup. I'm currently running ADAT from my Voice Channel into my Focusrite and I'm running SPDIF from my Aphex into my Focusrite. Does it make sense for me to sync these three components together via word clock cable? I can't find anyone that explains how to do this in a home studio setting. Is it feasible to track through both of these simultaneously given the fact that one is SPDIF and one is ADAT??? Do I need and external clock??? Thanks for any help you can give.
Hey Joe, I have a question about how this mixer works with Windows. Currently I use the old M-Audio ProjectMix I/O with Pro Tools 12, and Windows 7 happens to be the only OS new enough for PT and old enough for PMIO. Every single USB interface I've tried on Windows 7 has about a half second latency on all audio input (XP didn't have this issue, but it's just too old), which is why I went with the FireWire PMIO. However, this old unit is starting to have a few glitches, and I'm considering a StudioLive mixer as a replacement. Do you know/are you able to check if the drivers that come with the StudioLive can overcome this latency? I haven't been able to get my hands on a Windows 10 machine to test, I'd be willing to upgrade my os at the same time if that would eliminate latency.
I can't speak to anything Windows since I don't use it, BUT this is one of the main reasons I love using a mixer. No latency. You just monitor off the board itself and not through the software.
Joe Gilder Music Thanks for taking the time to reply! I'm more concerned about latency when recording to other tracks already in the daw. Would I at least be able to move tracks from the daw onto the mixer's SD card and record against those?
Its pretty Intoresting how difforent this one is to the 24r series 3 console that i have. It has 24 line and mic combo inputs with 2 rca in. 12 trs aux outs and 2 xlr for your main outs.
Hi Joe, I have a Presonus Central Station as well as the Studio live 24 (Recently Purchased Still in Box). How do you connect the Central Station to the SL24 as the SL24 doesn't have the S/PDIF Out.Please help!
Hey Quintus. I know this sounds like a jerk answer, but reading the manual will answer all your questions. That said, I run out of the main outputs of my StudioLive into one of the TRS inputs on the Central Station.
Seems like a question for SWEETWATER cause they temporarily had it on a 5 day sale for $2,999.99 ($1,000 discount) and if it’s discontinued maybe they coming out with a newer one?? I hope i didn’t make a mistake buying this box???
Specs say every presonus studiolive III console has 32 channels. If I buy a StudioLive16, how can I run 32 mics through it? I still don't understand how that works
I don't think you can. I think it's referring to digital channels you can get with the AVB/ethernet input. Pretty much all your questions can be answered by studying a picture of the back panel. And maybe reading the PDF manual.

I give a big thumbs down, not for your video Joe Gilder but for the new board. I will stick with the classic Studio Live 24.4.2 and run direct out to the quantum 48/48 since the serries three mixers don't even have thunderbolt. It's like they moved backwards on this one. I'm sure it's got a big ol' dirty circuit board that would impress anyone that likes to nerd out on electronics but she's lacking the inputs that make a console great.
