There are movies for sarah plain and tall and skylark which features Glen close as sarah. The movies are great follow ups to the books. That was my favorite read aloud when I was in a child in school.
Lol....Give me a book where the dog does not die! Wouldn't that be refreshing? I read the books before I pick which ones for our read-alouds. I read Where the Red Fern Grows, and I did not like it either. Yes, do not bother with the movie. There is a movie for Sarah, Plain and Tall and also Skylark which is pretty good starring Christopher Walken as Jacob, and Glenn Close as Sarah. They also did a third one, but I didn't like it. The first two are really good, and if you ask me, Christopher Walken should have done more roles like that. The Dietrich Bonhoeffer book looks interesting. Another book which is good is God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew which is about smuggling Bibles behind the Iron Curtain.
