I think there are two types of patterns for the men of iron the mars pattern and the tera pattern. The reason why is because there are men of iron underground on earth and we're used to test the new space Marines when they were made. There is also the weird black vault that is on Mars and the pattern used by Mars was based on necron technology. Also the STCs were made by Mars and others and all of the corrupted STCs came from Mars or their forge worlds.

The short stories with UR-O25 are really tantalizing. You get the idea that as powerful as he is, he was never one of the Men Of Iron's battle bots. If you read a bit about the Lion using them you glimpse them for the terrors they are and really wonder what happened for us to beat them. There was a reference by the Aldaeri helping in some way, about how before Slaneesh they took on everyone and won, including the Men Of Iron.

With the Lion back and more of his memories returning I'm hoping that in terms of the narrative, he starts to remember where caches of all those ancient super-weapons and Men of Iron are located. I know some were on the Invincible Reason, but the Dark Angels had fortresses out in the far reaches of known space; perhaps there are all sorts of goodies out there that Lion could bring back into action.

@aaroncarter4019
@aaroncarter4019 4 месяца назад
The issue with this, I do agree it would be much better, is that chaos is the fundamental glue that keeps the status quo maintained and ensures nothing changes too much. Ironic I know. Whenever something goes well, whenever people take a more reasonable or even kind approach or just one that makes sense such as welcoming allies there is some vague evil cloud of bad stuff (chaos) that makes things turn out poorly. Basically, outside of writing on a far far more complex level that gets a lot closer to modern politics the suddenly good thing becoming evil because chaos is the way by which 40k remains grimdark. Otherwise, people would naturally make progress to better standards.
@ssrunner

@BeeWaifu
@BeeWaifu 4 месяца назад
@@aaroncarter4019 Why the hell would modern politics have to do with anything? You can implement eldritch reasoning. Not everything is just black, white, and gray. There's blue-orange morality as well and things that have existed before the chaos gods and their corrupted segment of the warp.
@aaroncarter4019
@aaroncarter4019 4 месяца назад
@@BeeWaifu Because current politics play into our creations consciously and subconsciously? And like I said in my comment, you only get to real world political dynamics and intricacies if you aren't using a useful catch all like chaos to justify events/simplify things. The nebulous existence of chaos justifies the Imperium because it's always worse than what the Imperium is doing and you don't have to grapple with civil dynamics if you can just say chaos made them evil and they're bad. Like, as it stands most of the Astarte rebels inevitably become chaos if they are not chaos aligned at the start. Therefore it makes sense that not many would side with them. But if there was not the justification of chaotic influence and it took on a more complex realistic turn then you would have space marine factions splintering off from the Imperium, drawing in worlds to their cause and the Imperium itself would shatter into several new states. The Imperium just cannot function as it has for 10,000 years without that splintering happening even if the Emperor was off the throne for all that time. Humans just trend towards liberty and divided power.
@BeeWaifu
@BeeWaifu 4 месяца назад
@@aaroncarter4019 That's a very limited creativity, then. Chaos being the central cause of most conflicts is one thing. Chaos being the reason for everything is another. You can implement things beyond just chaos. They did that with the tyranids.

One of the things Lorewise that really dissapointed me was when GW made Perturabo a Demon Prince...I was hoping that he had interred himself into a Dreadnought and went full Men of Iron/AI Tech Heresey. We could have had Perturabo raiding the Leagues of Votann for their Votann and waging war against the Tau while the Mechanicus of Mars going all out to destroy him. Vashtarr took the Dark Mechanicum Techno Magic role leaving Perturabo redundant and unneeded. IMHO GW dropped the ball with this
@MrDeathshead13

Yea but at least Perty is an undivided demon so he isnt tied to any one god. That at least fits his character. He is still free to act and do as he wills.
@jikjikrodriguez
@jikjikrodriguez 5 месяцев назад
@@MrDeathshead13 Agreed but it still doesn't sit right with me...Perturabo spent most of the Heresey being sullen, bitter and fiercely independent. I can't reconcile the fact that he went to the Chaos God's for power. He always struck me as the F U I'll do it myself sort of chap. And again, Perturabo is made redundant as we already have Logar as a Chaos Undivided Simp and Abbadon as the "I'm using the Gods as tools to accomplish my own goals" character in the setting. Perturabo and the Iron Warriors hard carried the Traitors and for him to not have a relevant niche in the Setting and Lore is a total waste of a character with a lot of backstory.
@AveSicarius
@AveSicarius 5 месяцев назад
It was solely for symmetry in my opinion, GW just wanted all the "Bad" Primarch's to be Daemon Princes and all the "Good" Primarch's to, uh, not be. Might be related to what they do with Corax lore and new models, but I think it's very likely just to simplify the situation for newcomers. I personally dislike this and would have much preferred if Pertuarbo just remained a renegade Primarch who submitted to noone, or if he made a somewhat equivalent deal with Vashtorr to oppose the other Warp Powers. Lorewise I guess it makes sense because his Soul was damaged, but I really think even that could have been handled far better. Pertuarbo is one of, if not, the most intelligent Primarch, and if anyone could find an artificial way to influence the Soul it would be him.
@jikjikrodriguez

@@AveSicarius agreed. Anything would have been better than making him a Demon Prince. @TheSpicyLeg
@TheSpicyLeg 5 месяцев назад
We know what factions are involved, actually. Humanity, the Eldar, and even some Orks all had battles with the Men of Iron. Rather than proof of species being diplomatic, it was more likely an alliance of necessity. It seems to indicate the Men of Iron were attacking other species. This could mean that the AI realized the warp was being fed by organic species, and initiated a war in order to destroy organic species before they fell under the sway of Chaos.

@@m.j.e.5245 Nor should it be. I was not suggesting that Men of Iron or the Dark Age of Technology should not get more lore. It is the philosophical opposite to the current Imperium, and draws a great contrast to it. @AveSicarius
@AveSicarius 5 месяцев назад
No, it's absolutely not on the level of the War in Heaven and nothing in the lore suggests anywhere close to that. The Cybernetic Revolt was pretty hellish for the DAoT human civilization, but the Prime Aeldari (who had legions upon legions of Wraithbone automata that did all the fighting for them by that point) would have squashed it pretty easily. Unfortunately the Aeldari gave birth to Slaanesh and murder-fucked themselves into near extinction. It was apocalyptic for humanity because they were totally reliant on the Men of Iron in many ways, and they also had to deal with the Fall around this time. The Revolt likely would have destroyed most of the human civilization at the time regardless though. For context, the weapons that the Necron's have now could quite easily wipe out every single faction in play at the moment, and they literally broke reality when shattering the C'Tan which expended most of their truly crazy weaponry. The Old One's, a race of ascended superpsykers (as in basically living gods) who would have put the Living Emperor to shame couldn't deal with it and had to make the Aeldari (a race of psychic supersoldiers empowered by Warp Based Weapon's Platforms so powerful that one of them stalemated a newborn Slaanesh despite having no real worship for millions of years) and the Krork (Primarch level monsters the size of a building that have a gestalt psychic field that can do insane shit when harnessed), and even with this they couldn't handle the Necron Dynasties who had weapons that could kill God's and shatter the laws of the universe. That's the War in Heaven, beyond anything the Galaxy had ever seen, or will ever see. Like, a single whole C'Tan is a potentially Galactic scale threat. They can consume entire Star Systems in a very short amount of time and basically bend reality to their will. There were many C'Tan , and they were all powerful enough to be an existential threat, take this in the context that Khaine was stalemated by the Nightbringer, and he fought extremely well against a newly borne Slaanesh (who'd just consumed trillions of Aeldari souls) despite being much weaker than during the WiH. It's likely that the Prime Aeldari Pantheon were more powerful than the Chaos God's individually, and there were more of them. The War in Heaven itself created the entire basis for 40k just from the side effects of it. The War in Heaven was a conflict across the ENTIRE Galaxy on a fundamental level (as in it fucked both the Immaterium and Real-Space and gave every living being psychogenetic PTSD) lasting millions of year's. The Cybernetic Revolt only effected Human Systems and lasted for a relatively short span of time (centuries to millennia). Yeah, it sucked for Mankind and anyone near them, but it didn't splash over and destroy everything else either (the Craftworld and Exodite Eldar alongside the Drukhari don't seem to mention it as important), and the Silent King didn't see it as noteworthy when he returned (the Necron's awake during that time like Trazyn also doesn't seem to note it as particularly interesting), unlike the Tyranids where he quickmarched home due to threat they posed. The DAoT human technology is pretty nuts compared to modern day Imperial technology. But the Drukhari can do similar shit despite being a shadow of their former selves. The Necron's and Aeldari had better technology, but the Men of Iron and the other aspects of DAoT lore are still really cool. I think the Men of Gold are pretty interesting too, probably my favourite DAoT lore, and my headcanon is that the Emperor is actually a Man of Gold artificial Perpetual created (or at least augmented) in the DAoT. Which is why the Eldar call Him a "a weapon from the Dark Age" and why the other Perpetuals outside Erda (who I like to think had a part in His creation) didn't really know anything about Him despite potentially being older. This is also what He was trying to do with the Primarch's, create Artificial Perpetuals that also housed a very strong conglomerate soul (because several of them, like Sanguinius, seem to have multiple components) from the Warp. He didn't have the technology or resources to do what the DAoT human's achieved, but He still managed to create incredibly powerful Son's alongside Erda.

When UR-025 said he met the Omnisiah and that it wasn't the Emperor, I'm thinking he/they/it met the Void Dragon, either within the depths of the Noctis Labyrinth at some point after the Emperor imprisoned him there, or met him on Terra prior to his imprisonment, or a shard of him somewhere out in the galaxy. The reason why I'm thinking it's the Void Dragon is because UR-025 doesn't appear to be tainted by chaos, seems to not have any overtly malicious intent towards humanity and is searching for something. We know that the Void Dragon wasn't fully shattered like most of his brethren, prior to being partially shattered was the strongest of the C'tan, and that the Emperor encountered either a greatly weakened Void Dragon on Terra or one of his larger shards on Terra. Although it's implied that the Emperor encountered the Void Dragon on Terra at some point after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, the exact date when he encountered the Void Dragon is unclear. It could have been as early as the 2nd century AD or much later when humanity was just starting to send manned missions to the various parts of the solar system. Though we don't know what exactly happened in the encounter between the 2, I personally think that the Void Dragon knew he couldn't beat the Emperor so struck some sort of deal. The Emperor has done some shady stuff and those who knew him best knew there was some stuff he did, they didn't know about that was suspicious. Older lore said that what ended the Rangdan Xenocides was that the Mechanicum of Mars opened the Noctis Labyrinth and unleashed the Void Dragon.

Yeah, the actual Omnissiah might be more of Void Dragon or at least the biggest shard that somewhat interlinked with Emperor's more "Realspace"/Materium/Physical side (as he's still granting a sliver of his power to the guardians that secretly watches over the chains that bind that Void Dragon shard beneath Mars) Vashtorr is a different thing entirely and he's already in major competitions with Malice and Dark King to become 5th chaos god or something like that instead, although Vashtorr being a demigod empowered by blasphemous innovation makes possible connection between Vashtorr and Dark Mechanicum that GW sidelined since they probably loosing creative and logical brainpowers to ties and connects while expanding and progressing the lore of Dark Mechanicum with entities akin to Vashtorr or Iron Warriors or even Leagues of Votann, another faction that released like almost 2 years ago but there's still no major lore books and codices regarding them to progress the narratives with models expanses

@@sonofodin9000 In addition to UR-025's comment, it's also pretty clear that the "Omnissiah as a facet of the Emperor" thing is a bit of surgery that was performed to justify the Machine Cult serving the Emperor. The Machine Cult had their religion. The Emperor wanted them to join him, and would have ultimately won a war between the two (albeit at great cost). So the Cult leadership announced that the Emperor was really just a facet of the Omnissiah, and the problem was solved. The Adeptus Mechanicus was now simultaneously serving their religion, and serving the Emperor. The Void Dragon is the most likely suspect as 1.) As a Necron, it's closely associated with machinery and technology. 2.) It's buried beneath Mars, which is where the Machine Cult has always had its headquarters. 3.) It's believed that even in its imprisoned state, it's still able to influence the humans on Mars in very small ways - not enough to gain its freedom, but enough to influence the focus toward technology.

I like the idea that the LoV are actually a group from the DAoT who decided to simply leave during the Cyber Revolt and had a peaceful relationship with their AI. That is until the Ancestor Cores started to go into decay and rampancy due to age and an overload of information. I'd also say that the Ancestor Cores aren't necessarily AI, they are superpowered computer banks, but it's mentioned that they only recently started to develop facets of what might called a "personality". So it could be that over time they've developed into GAI through some attempt to fix internal issues with self-coding (because the Squats themselves have no idea how to fix them). I think this also depends on what you consider to be AI in the first place, because the Imperium has whole bunch but it just isn't really General Artificial Intelligence, though it still seems to have personality (i.e. the Machine Spirit). It would be interesting to see a Tau Earth Caste take a look at one given the Demiurge are confirmed as being Squats now.

I wonder if a few men of iron became Necrons. After all when the 'Necrons' first appeared they were known as chaos androids. Or maybe they were Necrons from a small tomb world discovered near in or around the eye of terror and used by the forces of chaos by having lesser demons summoned to control them.

I don't think regular robots can become necrons. The necrons are the metallic skeletons that originally were a race known as the necrontyr, and inhabited the galaxy far before humanity, orks, eldar, tau, or anyone else even existed. In fact, the tau and orks were created by the old ones with the sole purpose of fighting them during the war in heaven, 65 million years before the events of 40k.

The "True Omnissiah" could be Vashtorr, but given UR-025 shows no signs of corruption I find that unlikely. It's more likely that the "True Omnissiah" is either the Void Dragon shard on Mars, a similarly powerful shard, or perhaps one of the Men of Gold who created the Men of Stone, who in turn created the Men of Iron.

Men of Iron. They had machines that could eat an entire planet, biomass and all, to turn into new units, and have weaponry that far outpaces even the t'au's, which means that they can not only hold the line, but turn tyranids into more units, while tyranids cannot do such to the men of iron.

You know where GW missed their opportunity with these guys? Making their intelligence act like a Legion, where one is many, and many is one. One's experience is gained by everyone that is connected to the network of theirs, so they all see and hear what the others see and hear, and act accordingly. Literally like Bioware did with Mass Effect, where artificial beings and intelligence is Legion, where one is many and many is one, they know everything what others know. If Man of Iron would be like this, then it would've been a very formidable power that could fight with everyone with lesser effort, since it would do everything logically and strategically based on experiences and knowledge instantly gained anywhere at any place and any time. If one falls somewhere in this galaxy, everyone knows about it, etc.

Everyone forgets that everything and every epic battle in 30k or 40k is nothing compared to what happened in the Dark Age of technology, I think only the old ones war with the Necros was bigger. But with how vast space is and how vast the galaxy is, yes there is likely more the a few Men of Iron about, some still corrupted by chaos, and some that are clean or recovered.

I am peculiared by how the STC found by Tanith First-and-only produced synthetics touched by chaos- this means that synthetics old humanity made actually managed to have a soul, otherwise chaos is not interested in them (look at Nekrons as example). What they seen is, I think, a man of iron version of a pox walker. What this means is tha old humanity, by accident or on purpose, made artificial life- mind and soul. Quite intriguing, but mostly for less downer and doomer world than 40K, as in this world anything that has a soul can be touched by chaos (plus humanity falling into the trope of "fear the other". The thing is quie comples and don't wanna clutter the comment with phylosophy)

it's somewhat unclear what the difference is between highly developed cogitators and AI. It's reasonable to assume that the complexity of cogitators goes all the way from calculator to full-blown ai, there really wouldn't be a clean line to differentiate. men of iron also don't seem to be fundamentally different from the various combat automata in use in the Imperium. So you could have several instances of them just...pretending to be normal cogitators/machine spirits. in fact, machine spirits are shown to grow over time in complexity and capability, so they could be a form of emergent AI, in fact that might be the underlying principle behind their creation in the first place. contrasting with the men of iron, which seemed to have been made in their finished state, maybe the emergent nature of these machine spirits is what makes them more reliable.
