Brent Carver and Carolee Carmello perform the fantastic song "All the Wasted Time" from Parade. By Jason Robert Brown. From the Rosie O'Donnell Show. January 25, 1999.
I've seen hundreds of Broadway shows in my lifetime, but the one I will always cherish is seeing Parade with Carolee Carmello. I loved this show so much, and I was virtually dragged to see it.
Brent Carver is an underrated performer, though I understand why some are questioning his giving Carolee nothing. I was 11 back when this show was on Broadway and was actually planning on seeing it thanks to having a Theatre-saavy mentor but the show closed so suddenly. I have seen Carolee on stage twice since then, but I would have loved to see this show. A powerful and underrated musical with a gripping story and of course Jason Robert Brown's insane score.
So glad I found this, because 1, I miss Rosie O'Donnell's show so much, especially the Broadway performances, and 2, I effing LOVE Brent Carver. He and Carolee Carmello were powerhouses in this show.
I was actually thinking the exact opposite. :) I love her voice! She gives me goosebumps each time I hear this song. Brent is awesome, too. His vocal control is incredible on that final, powerful note that transitions into a kiss. Simply amazing.
lyrics LEO I will never understand What I did to deserve you, Or how to be the man That I'm supposed to be. I will never understand If I live a thousand lifetimes Why you did the things you did for me. Just look at you - How could I not be in love with you? What kind of fool could have taken you For granted for so long? All the wasted time, All the million hours, Pushing you away, Building up my walls; All the days gone by To glare, to pout, to push you out, And I never knew anything at all I never knew anything at all. LUCILLE I will never understand How all the world misjudged you When I have always known How lucky I must be. I will never understand How I kept from going crazy Just waiting there till you came home to me. Now look at me Now that you're finally here with me - Now that I know I was right to wait And everyone else was so wrong For so long All the wasted time LEO All the wasted time LUCILLE All the million hours. Years on top of years Still too proud to crawl - All the days gone by To feel that I don't satisfy And I never knew anything at all I never knew anything at all LEO All the wasted time LUCILLE All the wasted time LEO All the million hours. BOTH Leaves too high to touch, Roots too strong to fall. All the days gone by To never show I loved you so And I never knew anything at all. LEO I never knew anything At all
I'm a student at the University of Evansville, and our theater department recently performed this show. I was so blown away by it, I went to see it twice. They really pulled it off; it was fantastic.
Um, I'm pretty sure he can. Not only has he one a Tony, but he continues to be renowned for his acting it not only musicals but many Shakespeare plays.
"And I saw you in CITY OF ANGELS, did I not?" "Probably." So wonderful! So humble! She didn't even correct her on her name!!! I hope she lands some hugs breakthrough that really shows her off sometime soon!!!! (Not that she doesn't always anyway)
@MIXOLYDIAN123 I consider JRB music to be some of the trickiest show music I have learned. Most of the 6/4 9/8 12/8 timing i have ever played has been in his music. Every type of dotted note you can imagine all mixed together. It's amazing though how often you encounter the similar rythms and chords throughout his songs.
Cool. Thanks Mixolydian. I've applied for an MD postgrad course in London and for the audition they want two piano pieces, one at least from musical theatre. Trying to find one. Will keep searching..
Lot of research has been done on the case since then and the consensus is Leo Frank was wrongly convicted by an overzealous politically motivated prosecutor pushed on by an angry mob looking to unleash anger from the loss of the civil war and antisemitism at the time, and a system that failed him.
I found it took a while to get this down pat. The sheet music is a bit different in timing, so you just need to play around with it. It's not too bad. Good luck:)
I'm sorry, Brent seems so unconnected to Carolee and to his performace in general. I understand that Leo Frank is a little cold but, he is giving Carolee nothing. No focus and no investment is evident. Carolee is fantastic all around like usual.
This performance is so awkward! Why does he keep abruptly turning away from her? They don't seem connected at all. Watching this made me uncomfortable.
+Antonio Gonzalez-Luna Their vocals aren't built as a conversation, but a personal reflection. With occasional physical connection. Are you familiar with the story and what kind of relationship their marriage was? If you are...this would make much more sense.
