You guys are adorable and patrons who take pride in Lecom and being DO's. Thank you for spreading positivity in this world. I visited Greensburg and fell in love. Looking forward to more of your journey.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have an interview at LECOM-B soon, and I was feeling a little nervous about the PBL curriculum. I guess we fear what we don't know, but this video made me more comfortable with the idea of giving up lecture-based learning (which is what all we know since we were born lol).
Angelika KT exactly!! Lol no honestly the broad based learning works and you’ll see that when you’re in it! The difficult readings are part of being in medical school and learning to understand that higher level of learning! Definitely challenging but it’s SO NICE NOT BEING IN CLASS 8-4/5
Thanks ladies so much for posting this video. LECOM Bradenton is my top school for a few reasons with location being the top aside from it being a DO program. I want to stay close to home. Ive been to the open house and fell in love with the fact that ur not in class much and they use pbl. Looking fwd to attending. Im heading down the same track you all did with the mms program this yr hopefully. Good luck to u both.
Thank you so much for this video! I was blessed to have been accepted into LECOMs 3+4 EPA program and was slightly worried about attending after hearing some of the 'negatives' about LECOM. But this answered a ton of my questions, thank you!
Zach Jung so glad you took the time to watch! SO MUCH NEGATIVE AND UNTRUE INFORMATION out there!!! Congrats to you and good luck on your future endeavors!
Hi Sydney!! I’m so grateful you made this video- it was super helpful :) I was admitted to the 4+4 EAP and God willing I’ll be attending either the Erie or Bradenton campus in two-ish years. I have a quick question! If you don’t like your PBL group i.e. you feel like you’re not benefitting from the people in the group, are you able to change to LBL or to another PBL group?
Hi! Congrats!!! First, I wish you the best of luck! Second, I have never heard of anyone having this much of a problem to want to switch! At Bradenton, we do not have any LBL so that wouldn’t be possible but I’m sure you could transfer with paperwork and talking to administration, but the point of PBL is to get you to be able to adapt and work with all different types of people! There are 8 of you so if you don’t like one or two people, usually you aren’t even bothered by them lol
So glad I found this. I'm interested in attending Lecom Bradenton's DO program. I work as an Occupational therapist and I love my career and healthcare so much that I want to go even further in helping improve quality of life. I wanted to ask about the school overall, how many hours and days a week are you in campus and are there any students that you know who do not live in Brandenton. Also, how many hours a week do you spend on clinical rotations and do they try to keep you in your community if preferred?
Hi! So for hours a week and things like that, watch my video on all things lecom! And now I just added a rotations video! If you watch those and still have questions, feel free to leave another comment or reach out to me on IG and I can answer more! ❤️
So are the books that you use to find your information to solve each case provided to you? Or do you just find random anatomy or microbiology textbooks?
so the chapters in each book are to help you get through the patient case BUT its also to help you learn about the disorder or disease. For example, if the case is on a pregnant women with pneumonia, you will look in path, physio, micro etc to learn about lung anatomy, female anatomy, pregnancy physio, embryology etc. See how its still about the case, but ends up bringing together so much more!
Thanks for this video! I just subbed! So I just got my acceptance to their Masters in medical science and I'm really excited to start. I think you guys mentioned attending the masters as well. I was wondering how difficult this program is and how doable it is to gain acceptance into their DO program by meeting their GPA and Mcat requirements in their masters. Anyway you can make a video talking about your experience in the Masters program? Thanks!! 🔥
Thank you!! I'm going to be heading to LECOM in two years as part of the EAP program and this video really provided a lot of insight on PBL. I'm a little bit worried about the fact that there are no learning objectives or key topics that are highlighted. Does that get worrisome when it comes to exams? Also, do you know if PBL students tend to score higher on the boards because the whole curriculum is essentially board studying?
they do tend to score higher! lecom has extremely high board scores. also, yes people start freaking out but if you read "broadly" and then study and master 80% of the topics, you will be in the mid to high Bs on PBL exams and maybe even A's
I was fortunate to get 5 DO acceptances this cycle. I am now down to Nova Clearwater and Lecom Bradenton and after watching this video and disregarding SDN, Lecom is now my first choice. I'm really hoping for Derm. Are there research opportunities? If not, does the school help with finding outside sources? Derm is pretty competitive and I think research is important. Thanks again to both of you taking the time to do this for all of us.
Hi!! congrats to you!!! there are plenty of research opportunities for you both on campus and when you get to you rotation site! you can always ask doctors you rotate with if you can write a case report on anything interesting you see!
thank u so much for this video! i’m expecting to attend LECOM in 2021 through the 3+4 EAP, and this is really helping me make an informed decision on which campus i want to attend (stuck between erie and bradenton). i’m just worried about bradenton because i don’t know how well i’ll adapt to the switch from lecture based learning in undergrad to PBL that they provide. do u know anyone at lecom who’s faced this problem?
hi! congrats to you! Also, i would choose bradenton because i LOVE the sun and heat! Its been amazing going from WV and Pa to the south! I love love love florida so much! We all adapt pretty quickly and there are so many resources available to help you teach yourself!!
Hey! Great video. Would you please reference the name of the ipad the young lady uses? and any subsequent apps that have helped her keep track of study materials? She mentioned a flashcard app? Thanks in advance!
Hi there! I’m attending LECOM for dental school in the fall. It was good hearing about your PBL experience! I’d assume it’s similar to how the dental school runs it, do you know if/how it differs?
Hi Sydney!I had a question about what information you gained during the accepted student day event? I am a first-year at LECOM, and I heard that there is an accepted student day during April. Thank you very much
Hi! Thank you so much for the video! I had a few questions about the learning pathways. What exactly is the difference between PBL and DSP. I am trying to understand what would be best for me and I am having a hard time differentiating. Also, are you able to change your learning pathway after one semester if you realize that it is not the best fit?
hi! im not sure because I only know about PBL but i do know that lecture based learning will require you to be in classes almost all day and youll be tested more frequently, whereas with PBL you are only test 2-3 times a semester (not including your OPP and clinical exam tests). At bradenton there is only PBL so if you wanted to switch i assume you would have to transfer to one of the campuses that offer the other learning style!! hope that helps!
I don’t! Usually you just do not have enough time to actually write out that many notes because of the volume of reading! So just mentally I do that and I just stop after usually about a page and write down some times I remember and the rest I talk through in my head about what I just read, then I keep moving. You get so much better at this as you go! The reading really isn’t that difficult to comprehend (other than pathology because the Robbins book is a monster) but you can always use supplemental resources to help you!
Hi I’m debating if I should go to Bradenton campus next fall? I’ve been really concerned about it because of all of the negative comments on the internet. Do you feel prepared to take boards? How is the culture?
yes i felt prepared to take boards! i loved it, but i was surrounded by amazing friends that I made there so honestly you forget about any faculty or administrative things that can happen at any school!
yes you so some presentations (both powerpoint if you want and progress notes each time you meet) ... the presentations are more like pathways and mechanisms but its nothing formal! You most definitely use your group members to your advantage because each person is going to come into each pbl meeting having read something and probably found another way of explaining it that could be beneficial to everyone!
Haha it’s really not! You learn to understand the important material! And you have so many resources to use that help point that out! (Pathoma, boards and beyond, sketchy etc!)
I’m currently at the masters in Erie! This is awesome! I’m considering PBL so this was really helpful. Do they give you any learning objectives?? I’m stuck between DSP and PBL because I like having the slides and the learning objectives to work with but I could do without lectures.
ameisha no no real learning objectives so it’s all just read all the chapters you assign and that’s it, you pick what you master and hope it gets tested
Very information video!! Please keep them coming! I'm currently in the master's program and will hopefully be matriculating next year. I was wondering if you could touch on the research opportunities in Bradenton, especially in relation to Erie as it seems there are many more opportunities up north
@@sydneyshearer3505 Thats very reassuring to hear! I was originally a bit nervous as they never updated the research opportunities document for Bradenton this year.
when you say you have previous students who help provide resources for studying for pbl, is this something you would find if you don't know any previous students from previous classes? just wondering how that process was to help with that? basically, I'm asking if there will be some people just left out in the cold without those connections. Thank you!!!
Hey, I’ll be attending Lecom Bradenton next year. I’m sure you can easily develop those connections through your PBL groups as that format brings everyone to work together.
