My TBR has honestly never been as long as it is since I started watching your videos because you have literally the best tastes and I trust you 110% 😂👌🏻
This is such a weird comment but your voice is so pleasent to listen to, it's like butter for the soul. Also, LOVED this video and thank you for making my TBR a mile long.
“The Night Circus” is my absolute favorite standalone book ever! Magical, gorgeous, and breathtaking are the best terms I can come up with to describe this wondrous novel
My favourite standalone books are: 1. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank 2. The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin 3. The Swallow by Charis Cotter 4. The Green Mile by Stephen King 5. Carrie by Stephen King. Who has read these books as well??
As someone who has OCD, I would say that turtles all the way down definitely portrays it pretty accurately. The only thing is, that you have to keep in mind that OCD is completely different for everyone who has it, so while the thought spirals are pretty common, the whole germs thing is kinda irrelevant to a good portion of people with OCD.
So glad to hear that Perks changed your life as well! and by the way I'd absolutely love to see a video from you about other books that have changed your life!
I read The Night Circus because of you and I loved it! I definitely read Eliza and Her Monsters at the right time in my life; I also struggle with anxiety, and I find comfort in drawing. Eliza is one of the most relatable characters I've ever read, and I cherish this book so much!
I started reading it but at the start I was kind of bored. But I kept reading cause it wasn't bad either. And when I was halfway through, the story blew my mind away. It was amazing and now it's one of my favorite standalones.
The way you talked about Turtles all the way down, IS what I love about reading. Seeing how a book can impact your life so much, and how much you can resonate with a book, is everything I adore about books. Something similar happens to me whenever I talked about Ari and Dante, there's no book that can compare to what it makes me feel everytime I re-read it. PS. I will be picking up Turtles all the way down, really soon.
Your description of Turtles All The Way Down almost made me cry. I really want to read it. I think I might buy it next time I have book buying money. Your videos also make me want to reread The Night Circus more than I already have. I read it 5 years ago and while the details are spotty, the magic of that book was something so wonderful for me. It's on my Christmas list this year, so I'm really hoping to get it (heck, 80% of my Christmas list is books and the rest is homeware). Literally half of your list is on my TBR haha :)
Eliza and Her Monsters and Carry On are two of my favourite stand-alones too! 😊 I had the same sort of experience with A Short History of the Girl Nextdoor as you did with Turtles All the Way Down, I felt like that book was made for me and reflected my own thoughts so well! 💗
I have been trying to find someone with the same taste in books and I think I finally found that in you! Can't wait to read the books on this list, thank you!
Omg the way you talked about Turtles all the way down made me tear up!! I have anxiety as well and now I really need to read this book... it's wonderful when you find one that understands you, Im so glad you found it ❤️
The Gentlemen’s Guide second book is going to be a continuation from where the first book left off but it’s from Felicity’s perspective apparently so I guess it’s just a companion that stands on its own 🤷♀️ That’s what I’ve heard anyway
It’s so precious to see a fellow reader who has these books that they just love SO MUCH and want nothing more than for other people to read and appreciate them as much as they do!
Hi Hannah!! I felt the exact same way about John Green- I had read a couple of his books, and honestly thought they were a little overrated. Then, in May of 2016 I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. I went back and reread The Fault in our Stars, and I can't explain how much it mean to me. Thank you for always making content that makes me feel a little more understood
I bet your TBR isn't as long as mine haahaa but I would recommend The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The movie doesn't do it justice. I really think you would love it.
Jem.in.a.Bookstore I’ve actually read it but it was so long ago that I don’t remember what happens which is why I didn’t include it on this list. I need to read it!
I ordered Aristotle and Dante online as soon as I was done hearing your thoughts on it bcoz your opinion is always so perfect and I've liked every single book you've recommended that I've read
all the light we cannot see is literally one of my all time favorite standalone books and I'm so happy to hear someone else loves it as much as I do! xx
Hey, Hannah. I just wanted to thank you for recommending The Gentlemen's Guide to Vice and Virtue; I finished reading last week and I absolutely LOVED it!! And I also just finished The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, and I adored it, too, as I did Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (which has become a favorite). You have really excellent tastes! I wanted also, if you haven't tried it, to recommend John Green's Looking For Alaska. It's actually the first John Green book I ever read and remains a favorite to this day. And thank you for making me even more excited for Turtles All the Way Down than I already was! And, yes, I will read The Night Circus, I promise! It's on my TBR (along a lot of other recommendations by you) and I will get to it!
I read Turtles All the Way Down yesterday and as someone that suffers from depression and anxiety, I 100% agree with everything you said. Everything that Aza experienced from the therapy sessions to the panic attacks were as if they came straight out of my life. I can't wait to reread it 10 more times :)
I saw this video a few months ago and decided to go into Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe and I'm *so grateful* I have never before cried while reading a book. It is one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't stop talking about it and recommending it to everyone.
TATWD fell short for me :/ not sure if it’s because I had my hopes too high because of all the hype or if it’s because I’m not a huge YA fan but I enjoyed it, I only wish there was a big WOW moment towards the end and there wasn’t
Aristotle and Dante Discovers the Secrets of the Universe is my all time favorite book EVER. I've read it over ten times and every time I do I notice something new and I would DIE for these characters in every way possible
I absolutely trust your opinions on all books one hundred percent. Since watching your videos I have gotten back into reading for pleasure and I can honestly never thank you enough💗💗
Aristotle and Dante and Eliza and Her Monsters are also some of my favourite stand alones (The Perks of Being a Wallflower is also my favourite movie ever, and I loved the book too), I think they both just make you really connect with the characters and I truly felt how they were feeling, during each part of the book I felt like I was there with them and that's honestly one of the reasons I love reading, they reminded me of why I love reading
this is the first video i’ve watched of yours, and we have the same taste in books! I have read many of the books you mentioned! I’m so glad I found you! 💓
SO MANY GOOD BOOKS IN THIS LIST! And so fun listening to you talk about them. I just finished Station Eleven and Turtles- loved them both and they are new favorites of mine as well. Added The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender to my TBR list, love your description of this one!
Yes, PLEASE make a video about books that have changed your life or have shaped you into who you are. I love hearing about the impact books have on people's lives.
Currently listening the Night Circus audiobook! Almost done! And now I really wanna read John Green's new book. I was skeptical about it but I wanna give it a chance now that I've heard how much you enjoyed reading it! Take care! Can't wait for another video~
After I read Turtles All The Way Down, I legit couldn't think of anything but the book. Lost all concentration in my college classes for a week thinking about it. I still have a hard time putting why I love it so much into words. Because when she was going into thought spirals (especially in the hospital) it felt horrible. It did feel like being in the middle of a panic attack. But John Green has always had a way with words (both in writing and out loud) that is magical. His writing is real and heart-wrenching and beautiful all at the same time. 10/10 stars!!
Nisa sidek Adriana wrote a book on one of her ancestors . It’s about a witch named Sam , it’s mean girls meets Salem witch trials . She just did a twist on real events
@mahima rao the And I Darken series is just SO good. The idea is from the stories around Vlad the Impaler. Kiersten White took it and made him into one of the most impressive female characters: Ladislav Dragwlya.
I had the same experience with Turtles All the Way Down and I'm so glad you loved it. I personally was super excited for it because John Green is my all time favorite author and Looking for Alaska has been my all time favorite book for years. But the anxiety depiction was absolutely perfect and I too cried at many parts because they were just so relatable.
I’m turning to your videos to find books to read while my husband is deployed. I love reading and how it takes you away from your world and into another one. Have a book to read for every month that he’s gone will make the time go by so much faster
We read Perks simultaneously with Catcher in the Rye in my high school English class and wow. Both of those to read as a teenager were so impactful, I will never forget those stories
After you mentioned „turtles all the way down“ and said what it’s about, I immediately knew, that I have to read it, because I have OCD and really want to know how John Green put it into words ....
man, i've been having such a bad week and this video was able to make me happy and put a smile on my face. thank you Hannah, for both the recommendations and for the pick-me-up!!
I am not a huge fan of paper towns either and the movie adaptation is worse but if you haven't tried Looking for Alaska, I think you should. That was my first John Green book and I love it.
I would love for you to make a video about The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also read the book at a very specific time in my life and because of Charlie’s story I decided to seek help. Love you lots ❤️
I absolutely love Turtles all the way down too!!! John Green is one of my favorite authors. Think i should pick up The Night Circus because of u. And I'm planning on rereading Turtles too!🤣 Your voice is amazing 💖
There's SO many books in this video that i've read and loved! I love your channel so much, I can sit for hours watching your videos! I'm starting my own channel very soon and yours has inspired me to do so! Thank you! Can't wait to watch more of your videos!! Xxx
I am so happy you talked about the felling of being understood, I have anxiety disorder too and I relate to that feeling so so much. I have read some of these books thanks to you and I've fallen in love with them - Vicious and The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender just to name two ❤ A stand-alone recommedation I love so much that you haven't mentioned would be I'll give you the sun - if you haven't read already. I love the storytelling and plot in that book and I want everybody to read it. Thank you so much for the great work and anybody reading this, have a great day!
I just finished The Night Circus the other day and I adored it. It was so wonderfully written and I found myself invested in the story and characters the entire time. I don't think I ever would have discovered the book if I didn't see your previous videos talking about it. Thank you for inspiring me to read it! I think it's definitely become one of my top books that I've read this year.
I just finished reading The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender and I cannot thank you enough for recommending this book. It became one of my favorites, I will recommend it to others and hope they read it and love it. It is so beautiful, from the way it’s written to the story itself. It made me feel so many things, happiness, sadness, anger, and in the end hope.
when you talked about Turtles All The Way Down i literally cried because i relate to your opinion so much and i love everything you said. i couldn’t put my feelings into words after reading the book but you did it for me and i’m so thankful for that. aaah. i feel so dramatic but i love it so much and i just can’t help it.
Oh my god, I ADORE All the Light We Cannot See. PLEASE READ THE BOOK THIEF BY MARKUS ZUSAK. It's so beautifully written, set during World War II, and narrated by Death. It has, ever since I read it, been my all-time absolute favorite book!
THE NIGHT CIRCUS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVES TOO!!!! Although lately it was topped by Call Me By Your Name but the night circus is still top 5 and will forever be in my heart.
I'm currently listening to the audiobook of The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue and I am LOVING it! I absolutely love Monty's snarky humour and how unconsciously self-centred he is. I'm excited to see where the story goes!
Started watching your videos because we share a love of The Night Circus! I've added many of your recommendations to my TBR list and this will hopefully help me get back into reading more
I love these types of videos and I’ve read so many of these because of you!🥰 All the Light We Cannot See, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (read the sequel it’s amazing!!), and The Sun is Also a Star are all favorites of mine too!!😍😍 and I love the Perks of Being a Wallflower movie and need to read it!!I’m planning to read Eliza and Her Monsters soon! I also enjoyed Turtles All the Way Down; I too have OCD and am so happy to see own voices representation of it! I don’t really connect with John Greene’s writing however, so I didn’t love it as much as I hoped to. Two standalones I recommend are Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone which also is about a girl with ocd and never have I felt more seen in my life and it really changed my life❣️I also recommend Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, I just finished it and it was fantastic and has great discussions of important themes and I think you’d love it!❤️as always, everything I haven’t read on this list is ofc on my TBR and I think I’m going to read The Night Circus soon as well!
The strange and beautiful sorrows of Ava Lavander I loved it! I'm currently reading the night circus because you recommended it so much that I HAD to start reading it
So I have to comment now. I have been watching a lot of your videos for some time now and don't often comment. But I love your calm demeanor and way of talking like you aren't overly "quirky" and still so loveable. Nice video! Will probably pick up Eliza and her Monsters. Really liked Fangirl even though it was a slow-burn.
I wanted to hug you so bad at the end , you seem like ur in so much pain , you’re not alone all of us are having hard time be strong and smile and we love you ❤️
