I play both acoustic and electric guitar. I've seen them live as well and I can safely say that Jack does play guitar. He plays his parts just fine.

Jack is always at a very low volume / completely turned off and replaced by a pre-recorded track live (it varies from show to show which one actually happens), basically because he doesn't bother playing his guitar properly. He's only ever turned up when all three guitars are needed (there's another guy playing guitar at the back, on the left), otherwise it's basically just Alex and the other guy.

They have a back up; it's just not always seen. I don't think they use pre-recorded. He just doesn't play the lead depending on the song. He is usually playing rhythm.

Just a normal, 4 string, Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. The only difference is he has his in custom colours that aren't normally available. He also changes out the pick-ups for Aguilar pick-ups, i'm not sure which exact model.

The tuning is in Drop D. The PRS and LTD guitars probably have a lot to do with their sound. Also their Egnater cabs and Mesa Boogie Amps. Not sure about the EQ. It sounds like they scooped the mids.

Your EQ should have very little treble and bass. The cymbals cut through the high frequencies, and the bass handles the low frequencies, so if you have too much of those it will sound muddy.
