@@black_squall As someone who just reach Diamond, I can assure you that GM players aren't being hyperbolic when they say that Diamond players have just figured out the very basics of how to play. If you learn the basics of how to macro, you can get to Diamond without scouting or micro

The discussion for the second match was the best. Artosis saying "Alright, hold on, I got this." while Harmstem sees Lowko's guess in disbelief and then trying to hold in his laughter when Artosis continued with "[...] if I see a 2 come in from you [...]". Then Lowko revealing his guess and Artosis commenting "[...] I was like "I'm gonna crush him, he's gonna put something dumb like Gold 2" [...]" and that ends up being Harmstem's guess. 🤣

A lot of people play league of legends and know how to stutter step but are still terrible at starcraft (such as me). Amazing episode and season of Rank Roulette, sad it will be gone for a while.

I haven't played starcraft in over 6 months, but I strongly suspect the second game was me. A lot of that game felt very familiar, and all the mistakes highlighted were the usual mistakes that I make. But to be fair I guess a lot of games at my level will look similar to that. Either way, it was exciting to watch!
Really like Arty and I was rooting for him, happy to see Lowko succeed though and in the end not watching Harstem's amazing content, especially his premier I^3odis series, really got Arty and that's a good lesson to learn. How could he pass on that content it's friggen amazing?
that "Gold 3" game actually demonstrates a serious flaw within this otherwise AMAZING idea of a series... ...namely that a lot of games might come from otherwise really strong players who are climbing the ladder from a brand-new account, and thus, -- -- still have a lower placement than the one they actually belong to. Thus, any serious attempts to accurately predict the league / division would be in vain...
That's kinda why it's Rank Roulette, not Solve the Rank. You're never gonna get the full picture from a 2 minute clip, especially from a game like SC2 where skills develop asymmetrically. We could just be seeing the best or worst 2 minutes of either player's performance, or there could be hidden factors in the early game that could throw off your guess, like that Gold game in UpaTree's episode where both players thought it was much higher than it was because they macroed really well (because as far as the comments could tell both players left each other alone for like 20 minutes). And this is all assuming there's no external factors outside of the game, like smurfing, or climbing the ladder with a new account as you've mentioned, or trolling. Just like a casino game, Rank Roulette is stacked against the players, but that hasn't stopped some from having great scores.
zerg wins even when there's no balance involved. just goes to show you that zerg players are just smarter. more hardworking, skillful and honorable. and they'd TOTALLY write the hottest, kinkiest Mario erotica if they were into this stuff (they're usually not because they have girlfriends)
The takeaway from this is that if there seems to be a big difference in skill level between the two players, you should (probably) always go for a league fitting the lesser player. A player is more likely to be in a league below their current skill level, than in a league higher than their current skill level. A player can also have a very good aspect of their gameplay, such as a clean early game, but be terrible at other aspects, like mid-to-late-game transition and closing out games, which will more often than not lead to them staying in a lower league.
talking about the last game, there is a famous uploader on bilibili named 大刺蛇 aka the gaint hydra. He is a gm zerg player who always uses the 2 base swarmhost against protoss after his early game went wrong. Apparently there is a lot of zerg player flowing her style.
I do this as well - however I have to be honest (just purely assessing this game and not attempting to compare to me) - the micro of the SH of this player seemed very low for that build - just all SH launches / no locust micro / nydus was late etc. The DTs are a problem of course but it wasn't a good example of what 'can' be done with this build.

I'm diamond 3 EU toss and if there wasn't my reluctance to put tech structures in the wall in PvT and the fact that I don't like disruptors and I have no skins, this protoss player could've been me playing. Absolutely serious.
Haven't played starcraft 2 in ages, but as a rather high gold (maybe I was even plat once) I did have multiple hotkey groups ever since release of the game. Though I had played starcraft 1 before.

oh man i would really like a viewer participating in this rank roulette, something like people competing each other on rank roulettes and the first place can take place on the championship against the "celebrities" and we can see how well they do. Could you imagine a viewer getting to the grand final and going toe to toe with idk, Reynor, or lowko, artosis. That would be cool
Would love to see a rank roulette where you just throw an absolute wrench into the guessing and just use a bunch of IODIS replay submissions for it (perhaps come clean and put the submission text at the end to prevent people getting too salty, and call it a special unranked episode outside of the regular season)
As a Diamond 2 on NA i can say we aren‘t all that bad. Some of us do know buildorders but there is a certain amount of fools in the flock. If two of them meet thats what happens (Game 2)

9:30 that also doesn't make sense though, it depends on the actual league, in reality there are many players stably in 2 you need to play more to get into gold 2, plat 2 or diamond 2 or master s2 is getting gold 1, plat 3, diamond 1, masters 3 less time than masters 2 or gold or plat 2 or diamond 2? Especially in order one after the other
