Great video, well presented without too much detailed chat, which I find annoying in other videos! How refreshing to see a lady of my own shape and exact style, I get so depressed watching youngsters who have figures that I could never possibly aspire to, although their ideas are good. I'm an older lady in UK, who dresses in classic pieces, with a nod to current trends, so its age appropriate! I have all your basics, plus shoes, and as you say, will never go out of style. I buy masses of vintage and preloved and have a friendly tailoress who alters things for me, which can often make a huge difference in the look. I try to really care for my clothes and keep them regularly laundered and drycleaned. I look forward to watching more of your videos and thank you! Best wishes.

I been working on my closet now about three years . After hanging on to everything ( just in case) my whole 45 years - now I’m 48 I find letting go for me is easy when I do it slow and regular. I like all your suggestions and color palette.

This is a perfect and well thought out capsule. Something I aspire to, but can’t quite get there. I’ve gotten rid of most of the trendy clothes and primarily have classic, timeless pieces… but have ALOT of them. It is also refreshing to see a “normal girl” (aka not a stick figure)… love it!

Amazon Essentials, or Daily Ritual, brands have some very nice 100% cotton sweaters, they are good quality, reasonably priced, and come in lots of colors. As I’m also in California, I wear these a lot too, they are classic, breathable, comfortable and easy-care (machine wash wash, gentle cycle, dry flat). I got V-necks, but I think they have other styles, too. This type of sweater is great on its own, or layered over a long-sleeved button-front shirt, blouse or t-shirt in the winter (in milder climates).

I think my most seasonless item is the tank top. I wear them constantly in summer, of course, but also a lot for layering in the winter. They are great for wearing with an otherwise too-hot cardigan, blazer etc. I wear this look a lot when clothes, or other, shopping, because most stores are really overheated, but it can be cold outside (at least, I used to wear this when clothes shopping in person was allowed). I also use them to winterize summer-weight dresses, with tights, boots and blazer. I always end up with “fall-winter” dark print dresses and tops that are in very lightweight summer fabrics like viscose, I’m trying to not buy these, but am styling my extant ones as necessary for cold weather.

Absolutely excellent wardrobe

In regard to the black jeans, if the fabric is still good just dye them with some black RIT dye. I dye my clothes all the time because things come in colors that don’t look good on me. Just make sure you buy the right guy for what you’re dying there’s synthetics that only take the synthetic guy and the natural fibers cotton wool linen and silk for the natural dye.

I bought a black Talbots blazer at Good Will for $7. Their blazers sell for upwards of $100. I have very similar pieces in my wardrobe. I have gray instead of white combined with black. My accent color is red. My pants are basically jeans. Your wardrobe is what I call a normal "Red Blooded American Woman style wardrobe".

Love it! It’s so difficult to respond what’s my favorite basic piece bc I love all of them so much!! But If I would have to choose one, it would be my Adidas Superstar. I wear it with blazer, jeans, dress, shorts... all year long. Ps: I’m a banking and yes I wear my Adidas at work with blazer 😍

Hi Lauren. All great pieces. Your hair is sooo gorgeous and I'm sòoo jealous. Lucky you. Where I live in Canada I would freeze to death in your clothing. Again you're sooo lucky. Also, where I live (besides being in quarantine) no one here wears white pants at all. Only me - and I always get a lot of comments. Also, not many people wear blue jeans, t-shirts, sweat shirts or denim jackets. Perhaps in other parts of Canada but not where I live. I wish we did though. I have the exact same Sperry loafers that you do. Great video.

I live in a tropical climate. My year-round go to item is my basic white button up.

I find it interesting that the items others consider "basic" are things I would never own or wear. I don't wear white anything. I don't wear stripes. I don't wear silk. I don't wear chambre or denim anything (no jeans, jackets or skirts). I have never owned a band t and don't wear graphic ts. I don't own a leather jacket.....you get the point. I own a total of 40 clothing pieces: 19 professional 11 casual 6 workout 4 lounge I wear black or grey slacks and blazers & cardigans in black or grey. I then wear thrifted (usually vintage) button downs & dresses in bold colors or patterns. That's pretty much it🤷. I do live in a cold climate 🇨🇦 and wear layers a good portion of the year.

Los Angeles Apparel makes really good sturdy t-shirts and they don’t outsource their labour (all their workers are in the U.S and they are paid fair wages).

When it is winter it can be dpressing so I wear bright colors like pink or other spring colors

Hi Lauren! ✨😁 Brand new subscriber here. Just want to say I am on my capsule wardrobe journey. About 65-70% through my list of what I need. I am using Poshmark too! I notice I am buying pieces from Doen (I think you would love some of their pieces). Also wanted to say, we have super similar body types! 😁 So nice to feel like I have a fashion sister with a capsule wardrobe that I can identify with. I love your jeans. If you don't mind me asking, what size are you? I usually wear a size 8, but it depends on the place. My capsule wardrobe needs some great pairs of jeans 😭. Also, love your use of scarves! I just found out about Sabina Savage, and I think I may save up and invest in one of her pieces! (Merry Christmas to me!) I normally travel a lot to other countries, and I say normally because obvi 2020 hasn't been normal. I have been using this year to find my personal style and create a capsule wardrobe that will last me years and will make it very easy to pack for other countries when we are allowed and it's safe to travel again. Jeans are super-flattering, and casual, but I think they are just about the least comfortable garments ever invented. I have a selection of them, but I just don’t wear them that much. I like skirts and dresses much more for daily wear, especially knit ones. (Of course, I hear “why are you dressed up?” constantly, even though my skirts are mostly casual cottons, linens, etc.). I can’t imagine sitting a long exam, flying, etc., in jeans, ouch. It’s also too hot about 8 months of the year for jeans, where I live. I recently discovered H&M linen joggers, and they have almost replaced my jeans, because I can wear them even in the summer. I hope they will bring out some new colors in these this coming Spring.
