I started a Mobile Detailing business while in high school to make side money. Over time my passion grew, and so did my business skills. Today I own the largest detailing company in my town, all while taking college classes online. My thesis, simple businesses have the power to create life changing wealth, when done right. And I can prove it.

How simply did YOU start your detailing business?

The wife tryna teach me how to deal with leather. And you gloss over leather conditioner is a scam..plz, details. So we can all be educated =] Edit figured you'd get around to it But the moment has passed. I'll just tell her I did it like.she said to. How do you handle headliners? (Example:.multi year smoker car with multiple instances of getting wet from sunroof leaving tabacco/waterline stain) Probably worst kind of stain, yes? I assume use more care.than you do on carpet Scuff marks. Looks like dirt but isn't. Advanced leather stains, and lack of.care where the leather is super dry. Pro tips on unusual situations Um, good.job, thanks !

I respect the hustle young man. Here’s a few things I’d like to point out to help you out (judging by the look of the area, you’re probably in Leander or cedar park, and I support fellow Texans) 1. Leather conditioner is not a scam. It’s job is not to protect leather, it’s to moisturize and make it last longer. Remember, leather is skin, and just like our skin, it needs moisture and hydration to prevent cracking, wrinkles, etc. the goal is to extend the life of the leather to prevent this. Now a new car most likely won’t need a leather conditioner since most new leather in vehicles nowadays is coated. Older vehicles will need this. Meguiars sells a really good one, or Leatherique is really good too. 2. Try to avoid spraying products directly onto the surface if it isn’t carpet, especially on the door switches. Spray onto a rag and wipe, or spray into your brush, then agitate. That moisture is going to wear out and ruin those switches over time. 3. Same for glad, avoid spraying directly into the surface. Also, don’t forget to roll down that window and clean the edge to fully clean the window, and don’t forget to flip the rag over to the dry side and buff out the product. 4. Remember, less is more. Your approach to cleaning the carpets is great, but don’t oversaturate them with product. 5. Try not to use sharp objects like that to clean perforated seats. Compressed air works just fine, or a fine (soft) bristle brush. You don’t want to run the risk of tearing the seats with that, no matter how careful you are. Also, same goes for seats, especially perforated ones in high end/luxury vehicles. I’m assuming that vehicle had heated or ventilated seats, which means there’s electronics in there. Moisture is not a friend to electronics. 6. Get a rubber mat (even a yoga mat works fine) mat to clean carpeted floor mats. Avoid putting them on the concrete. Can even get those cheap, foam puzzle piece mats and that works too. 7. GLOVES, GLOVES, GLOVES. Can’t stress this enough. If it’s on you, it’s in you. Overall, great technique and methods. I especially love that you clean the vehicle from back to front. I find this to be the best method so you don’t miss anything, and you end in the drivers seat in case you need to move the vehicle. I wish you well in your detailing journey.

Thank you so much for all of this information! I'm going to look into these things and implement some of them. And you're right lol, live in Leander. Where are you? You seem to know the area pretty darn well!

@@HudsonArcher_Details no thanks needed man. I’m always happy to share information I learned along the way to help out. I’m currently in Los Angeles, but I was a roofing contractor in Leander/Austin/Cedar Park/Hutto, central Texas in general. Actually looking to move back to the area, so I’ll keep you in mind for detailing. I’d recommend even trying to hit up some of the roofing businesses to get customers out of them. Kangaroof has a pretty large fleet, Newruf also has a few trucks, Coast to Coast Contractors, etc. Probably will work best to sell exterior washes, and skip the interior with most of them (inside of a contractor truck is usually going to stay messy and they’re particular about their stuff inside). I know image is important to a lot of the roofing businesses so you could try it out. Coast to Coast is in Leander so you could start there. Newruf, in hutto might be a good deal. Mike, the owner is a bit of an ass, but the man is all about image (he’ll try and buckle and dime you, but just hold firm on your pricing). Any tips or help ever wanted, just holler.

Automobile leather isn't real, hide leather. It's a form of plastic that is dyed, and coated with another plastic coating. The way to keep it looking good isn't by using leather conditioners, it's by keeping it clean, and being mindful how you're sitting in it to prevent cracking.

@@HudsonArcher_Details I think the structure of your services and how you priced them at first. For example should there be different levels to an exterior and interior wash or just one. Would it always include a clay bar or iron remover. Should sealents be added or be an upsale for the wax. And how do you get customers interested in maybe graphene or even ceramic coatings if you offer it. Paint corrections and things like that. This is the only piece I have left to fully learn because I feel I have the actual process and knowledge of the service down. I just need to refine my pricing and efficiency. I know it’s a lot. Sorry

All of my customers want the OEM look/feel. So it really depends on what leather conditioner you use and how you apply it. I use the chemical guys one and with that you must make sure that you buff it off within 2 minutes of applying. If left longer than that it will leave the leather glossy and sticky. If i accidentally leave it on too long i spray interior cleaner on them to remove the condition and reapply. I also use a fresh microfiber afterwards to ensure I wiped up all the excess. After 6-8 hours it will have the original shine and feel as OEM leather.

Great video! Though, having owned classic cars leather conditioner is a must. A lot of cars don't need it but the older the car, specifically pre 2005, definitely need it. I say pre 2005 as from cars I've owned the synthetic coating on leather has definitely gotten better. I do feel it wears away over time however, and I love Griots Leather 3-in-1 and I let it soak in. Get compliments at Cars&Coffee for how good my seats look. Personally though, I prefer vinyl seats (especially older NuLuxe, as I find it softer and more comfortable than leather, yet my little experience with the material usually is with Lexus cars)
@HudsonArcher_Details

If you can't get them out with a strong all purpose cleaner, perhaps try a stain remover like P&S Terminator, if that doesn't work then you may be right about it having etched itself into the material :(
